American Wife Tries GERMAN KFC! (Better than US?)

It's Fried Chicken Time!! American Wife tries German Kentucky Fried Chicken for the first time!
KFC is one of the biggest Fast Food Chains in the world and known for their awesome deep fried chicken! It's not quite as famous as McDonald's or Burger King in Germany, but it might be even better.
How does it compare to the USA and other country's versions of KFC?
What is the best thing at KFC?
Does it beat McD and Burger King?

    • I would not compare them at all. They are totally different. KFC is just chicken or chicken sandwiches. I wish they had non-hot wings though. I love wings but i don't eat hot stuff. If i want some chicken I'll go to KFC and if i want a burger I'll go to McDonald's. And i will never go to BK unless I'm starving and there is nothing else around :) Which happened to me quite often when i was younger and was drinking in a city till like 3am and everything but BK was closed.

And every time I feel there like 7th heaven 🤤🤤. I often take a lot of Filet Bites with barbecue sauce. But the Hot wings are delicious too. Greetings from Essen City, Germany

  • Bless both your hearts, it's always so heartwarming to watch you two lovebirds ! And omg you guys can eat so much ! Even after being stuffed ( IMO ) you still try out more products and rate them as if your stomach was still on starving mode, i love it ! One thing i have to point out tho, around midway trough the video...brah...you can't have french fries sitting there getting all moochie ! French fries have to be eaten immedately, while they still have that glistening hot touch and are shiny from the oil ! I kinda made it a habbit to lurk around the ordering desk in McDonalds in Switzerland and scope out what burgers they have piled up and made in advance, and how full the fries station is. And i have no problem waiting 5 -10min to make my order, if that means i get a fresh made burger or fries ! omg the difference between a fresh made product over one that has been sitting there for 15min...it's mindblowing. *edit note* i only mention McD because we only have like 3 KFC stores in the country and they're in the french speakin part...countrywide chains are basically only McD, BK, and Subway. We have like 1 Wendies, 1 5 guys, and some KFC but for some reason they're all located in Geneva. For you US people, that's like living in SF but all the good stuff is in LA...

Then they paid you and gave you a soda for the road. This was done at they're Headquarters, it was great and I would go during my lunch break from work. One day they fed us 2 chicken sandwiches, 2 pot pies and 2 mashed potatoes and gravy. I was stuffed, I thought I was going to have to get them to roll me out to my car.. To me KFC is not as good as it used to be which is disappointing. Take care, be safe and keep up the good work!!

  • My first real job was at KFC (in the USA). I loved it and so did my mom since I brought home food every night that was leftover (and free). Lol. I'm definitely team white meat, though dark meat is better in soups and stews when you're cooking at home from scratch. I preferred the extra crispy recipe over the traditional recipe at KFC--bucket style, thank you. None of it is good for us, but that's besides the point, right? 😋 It's a chicken (filet) sandwich unless the meat is ground; then it's a burger. It's like steak vs hamburgers in the world of beef. Ketchup on a chicken sandwich? No thanks. Lol. All the side dishes were my favorites, as long as they were fresh. The coleslaw was very good. It was their signature side dish back in the day, along with the mashed potatoes and gravy. We also had a mean macaroni salad and potato salad. Mac and cheese came in heavy after my time in service. I'm giving away my age here. Lol. Speaking of taters and gravy, where were the biscuits to go along with them? We made fresh-baked biscuits all day long. They were so awesome. We had little packets of honey and jam and butter to give the customers if they didn't want to eat them with the potatoes. If you were a good baker, those biscuits were awesome; light and fluffy and yummy. You can't forget the biscuits, IMO. They were the highlight of the dinner. For real. 👍 What's with those desserts? Back in the day we had refrigerated parfait desserts that were probably awful for us but tasted so good. Lol. There was a chocolate parfait and a strawberry parfait. There was one other one but I can't remember what it was. Maybe lemon meringue and/or banana cream pie? They were all so yummy! Sadly, I can no longer find a KFC around here. They had some dubious employees and practices, so they have gone bye-bye. I'm not sure if they still even exist in the USA. Surely they do somewhere along with those long-lost White Castle and Hot-and-Now restaurants....

Today there is a KFC just 15 minutes away and I quite often (1-2 times per month) and usually get a bucket. However after years of nearly choking on the dry white meat, i just went to all dark meat and I've never been happier. So much more flavor, its tender and juicy...love it. Now, it appears German KFC'S have a lot more variety. My wife is Hungarian and we ended up at a Hungarian KFC in a mall food court. Not as big of a variety as Germany but, maybe because of it being a mall setting. I'm a traditionalist and rarely alter my order at KFC. Fried chicken, Original recipe. Mashed potatoes and gravy, and Cole Slaw. Our Hungarian cousin,in her early 50's had Never been to a KFC...I KNOW!! She liked the coleslaw a lot and the rest was 'ok'. We all know...the Colonel had 11 different herbs and spices in his chicken, well..in Hungary I think it might have 12 or 13. It was good, but different. I couldn't say exactly what it was ..I don't know.

My small town only has subway in the back of a convenience store, a couple bars, a pick-up chinese place and two pizza shops to buy hot food. • Just for the record: there was an archived episode of the quiz show "What's my line?" from back in the 1950's. Who appeared as one of the guests on the show to be asked about his occupation? Why, it was Colonel Sanders! Easy peasy, I thought immediately. But then my big surprise: not a SINGLE one of the guessing board could make out what he did! I was absolutely flabbergasted! It was only then that I realised colonel Sanders was not yet known for Kentucky fried chicken back then. By the time I was just a little boy, he already seemed to be well established in North America. There were already TV commercials about KFC. Then my parents decided to move to Europe. We moved to a town where KFC was yet unknown, but there used to be another restaurant chain serving chicken dishes: Wienerwald. it stayed present for one or two decades, but eventually, Wienerwald had to give up its business and vanished. Only after some years later, when the central railway station of the town was refurbished and modernised, KFC also moved in.

  • We really like KFC and just had some yesterday. My favorite are the Filet Bites and we really love the Cheese Crunch Burger. The Crispys are also nice. And what we always order are the Chilli Cheese Fries. My Boyfriend loves them - me not. Just try them the next time, may you like them. :)

I noticed, that KFC is not so poular in Germany, Irleand, Danmark (countries I mostly travel to). It is super popular in Poland. We have 50/50 M'cs and KFC's in Szczecin, city I live in.

  • Team dark meat with Deana! I have not eaten at KFC for a long time but when I would travel for meetings in the US, it was a favorite place for me to pick up an order and lots of napkins to eat the fried chicken and the sides - mash potatoes with gravy and mac & cheese. The crunchy, oily skin - not healthy but yum! These fast food joints now are combos so KFC and Taco Bell are sometimes right in the same building. Fun video.

I find it pretty comparable and tasty here in Germany but was super disappointed to find that the KFC's here don't have buttermilk biscuits! German husband didn't really go to KFC before until I made him take me there but now he loves the chicken "burgers". :D (My fave is the hot wings BTW. Dienstags-Angebot!).

  • I.only came across this video recently, but I have to comment on the video, as an American. Some KFC locations have a buffet, and 2 location by me have a buffet, but due to covid, the buffet has not reopened, and in one location, it's drive thru only. When the buffet was offered, original, extra crispy, grilled, and barbecue (only 1 or 2 had barbecue on them at a time), corn (corn on the cob isn't offered at my local KFC, and not evenfor traditional meals), green beans carrots (buffet only), mashed potatoes and gravy, Coleslaw, biscuits, country gravy (buffet only), Mac and cheese, chicken livers and gizzards (buffet only), iceberg lettuce salad with French, Italian, and ranch dressings, cottage cheese, pickles, peaches, and 2 different desserts, one hot which was bread pudding, and some cold dessert I can't think of. Now as for menu items, I don't like their fries at all. The potato wedges they used to offer were much better, and stood out from other fast food places. I prefer the breast and drumstick meats. I'll eat thighs, but I'm not a big thigh fan. And chicken filets on a bun are sandwiches. It must be ground up meat (this includes chicken and turkey), shaped in a ground up patty, to be a burger. So what KFC offers in any country is a sandwich. For dipping sauces, I find the US doesn't offer a lot of sauces, and at least in the US, they don't offer sweet and sour sauce. American McDonald's offers it. I prefer honey mustard, but fast food places don't always want to offer it, but want to cram ranch down our throats. I'm that picky on how ranch is made, and in the US, only Hidden Valley and Kraft make good ranch. Popcorn chicken is still available, along with chicken tenders. Some locations offer special chicken wings (not like the ones you get in a mixed bucket), but very tiny wings. Pot pies are usually offered (at least local to me) as part of the fillup meals. I sometimes get the famous bowl, which is pieces of popcorn chicken, corn, and cheese, mixed in with mashed potatoes and gravy. For a short period of time, the famous Mac and cheese bowl was offered, and that had just pieces of popcorn chicken in Mac and cheese. Dessert is just cookies at my local KFC that isn't part of a buffet, orif there's a buffet, then these items are for carryout only.

  • "this is nostalgia to me" omg Deana I'd forgotten completly about KFG mash potatoes & gravy and now my mouth is watering cuz I love that stuff! And when you tried the cole slaw, omg, please stop. I love that stuff. And now for something different from KFC: In the early 2000s I worked for a weathly jewish family in their downtown skyscraper. Wealthy is an understatement, they own a portion of Seattle. Anyway, one day, the patriarch looked down from 20 floors up onto Mercer Avenue and said, "Have you ever eaten a KFC Chicken Pot Pie?" Um, no? After that moment, yes, yes, often. I'm sure they don't have them in Germany, but back then, filthy rich people had them sent up to their high rises.

  • When I go to KFC, I mostly order the crispy filet things, sometimes added with filet bites (awsome). I do it as a menue, so I go for chillie cheese fries (the sauce let the, really bad, fries taste good) and the coleslaw. I never had the mashed potatoes, not a fan of it at all... When they have the Zillinger Burger I always have to eat it :D pure meat^^ its a total mess but I love it.

  • (Austria / Österreich) Everything made out of chicken like the wings, pieces or breast filets is just awesome. The only thing that I don't like is that it's way more expensive than McDonalds or Burger King. If you don't get a 30 wings bucket with a coupon to eat with 1 or 2 friends, you're paying about 50% more for your meal than at other Fast Food restaurants. And regarding the fries and corn on the cob: as far as I noticed by eating it they don't even use salt. ^^

I'd miss the mac n cheese for sure!! Also, I think KFCs in the US might have biscuits?! As an American, I agree, KFC is a little underrated and forgotten about. I LOVE the sporks! Hamburgers, hot dogs or Brots with all the sides: grilled potatoes, chips, coleslaw or potato salad and of course with desert: apple or I know one of y’all southerner’s favorites pecan pie.

  • To be perfectly honest: in my 36 years of growing up and living in Germany I've never ever been to a KFC before. I've only eaten at Burger King once or twice and I can probably count the times I've been to McDonald's with two hands. I think I've been to Subway more than any of these but can still count that with two hands. "Sucks" living in a rural area for 30 years of my life where these restaurants just weren't easily accessible. When I go for takeaway food (and this is definitely different from ordering online), I mostly go for Döner or something from an Asian takeaway place.
