Mascarpone Rohschinke(raw ham?) And rucola...but classic is proscioutto e funghi with some olives and capers food? Kapern...
Maybe it sounds kinda ugly, i like the combination of tuna and pineapple on top. Just give a try!
Favourite is just mushrooms. Tastes good and one does not have to go and sleep afterwards :)
I like my tonno with béchamel and capers. But nothing beats all the pizze I ate in Italy. That is the only way! ❤️❤️🇮🇹
curry pineapple and chicken, is offered in some restaurants with an Indian touch
When i went to college in the 70s, I had the situation of several fellow students sitting with me in the bar, trying to convince me that pizza is an American invention. They believed it themselves. There was no internet these days, so I couldn't prove that pizza was developed in Italy.
We don’t care what you boomers did in the 70s it’s you boomers fault that the world is now f#€k£d. If I owned a business all boomers would be banned from using the business
Yes, over there they believe a lot. For example, that they invented the car or the lightbulb. But I heard that stuff like that is taught in some state schools that way.
Any Chance they where talking about pan fried Pizza? The one with the really thik fluffy dough?Cause I think this style was invented in the US.
@@inotoni6148 While there were lightbulbs invented by other people they were impractical designs. Edison's bulb had a long lasting filament and was a much cheaper option that lasted a lot longer than the other inferior designs. The light bulb as we know it is the one patented by Edison.
@@bengaljam4550 This is known, but nevertheless it was not invented by Edison, only improved
In Belgium, the Tuna pizza is very popular too, but my favorite is the "country pizza" with goat cheese, bacon, red onions and herbs
Pretty much flammkuchen
there are pizza places in the us that do offer tuna on pizza but none of the national chains do. you'll usually find tuna pizza at smaller family run restaurants.
One other thing I can recommend is a sucuk pizza (the superior pepperoni pizza). sucuk is a garlic sausage which is really flavourful and tasty. I love to pair it with uludag a turkish soft drink. It goes so well together.
I'am from Germany and I can agree this! :D
Uludag is imho just a bad version of Sprite.. too sweet.. turkish people like it very sweet
No mergez?
👍
First time I went to L'Osteria I didn't know about the giant pizza and ordered a garlic bread, pizza and dessert The waiter suggested I just have the pizza and I ended up taking a doggy bag home with half the pizza - they are big!
L'osteria is so amazing.. we usually order one for 2 people, with the toppings halved, one with spinach and egg and one half with ham and mushrooms
Tuna and onions (tonno e cipolla) is my favorite Pizza variant, just slightly in front of a well made diavolo.
ASPARAGUS ON PIZZA??
I should explain the egg. In Freiburg in 1984 there was a Pizza at an Italian place that had a soft boiled egg in the middle. It was really good.
Yeah that's a good one! It's more common in France, right? We have trouble finding egg on pizza here, but we should look harder!
@@DeanaandPhil You should try making pizza yourself, its not all that difficult. And you get the toppings on it you really want. Tip: a pizza does not have to be round! ;)
@@DeanaandPhil also keine Ahnung ob das gängiger in Frankreich ist, aber in Deutschland bekommt man das auch, ich glaube die heissen Pizza Fiorentina... ich hatte das selbst auch schon, gibts halt leider nicht überall.
In Wuppertal there´s was a restaurant called Galaxis (Greek owner, so they also got gyros and such) in the late 80s that served a pizza with sunny-side-up egg in the middle, I think it was named Pizza Zyklopos or something like that.
@@sthenzel in Freiburg the pizza was something like that. It was an Italian restaurant with Turkish waiters. It was a really good pizza. But it was a personal size.
Tuna with Red onions. Red onions. Yum!!!
Yum Yum Yum Yum!!
@@DeanaandPhil I have a Tuna flavor question. USA has many Types of Tuna, but the price usually tells one ;if its $1 a can,its leaning towards the cat food Fishy Taste. $2-&3.5 a can Its going go taste fresher with only a slight fishy taste. Can you please describe the Tuna on your pizza? From .75cents -$4 USD range scale. Vielen Dank.
@@rickyn1135 I'm also curious about the type of tuna. I am assuming it is the cheapest type (light pink colored) since pizza is basically fast food and these pizzas were not that expensive - it's definitely not Mahi, and I don't think it is white Albacore.
It would be fun to hear Deana and/or Phil actually ordering food in German like Deana did in the Christmas market
Where is the tuna pizza gang? 😁🤘
🤮Pfui
Hier
HECK YEA
@@RudiAusBuddelne Fresh tuna none of that canned stuff you are used to that they serve you in Murica! 😂
I’ve never had it but I believe that I would really enjoy it. I like anchovies on pizza so I imagine it would taste meatier and not salty.
I have never been this fast on your channel 🤗🤗🤗
Döner pizza is the best selling style of pizza in Sweden. But we call it Kebab pizza. They are usually also topped with lettuce, red onion, tomatoes and a mild yoghurt sauce or a spicy tomato sauce after they are baked.
The fold is New York
Never had any of the three, but all are now on my list to try when I can find them. 😀 Thank you!
Back in the middle of the 90's and living close to Munich (being at that time around your current age), when we had the wish to eat a good pizza, I picked my friends up in the morning, having breakfast in Munich, spontaneously drove to Bozen, Italy to have pizza for lunch, did some sightseeing before heading back for dinner in Innsbruck, Austria and back at home late at night.
I don't think I make it to the end of the video!!!😘
Klare Sache, Pizza Romantica beste in Düsseldorf oder in Gerresheim Pizza Terranova 😊👍🏼
Es geht darum, welche Sorte du bevorzugst. Nicht welche Pizzeria...
Hmmm Döner Pizza, i miss my old Döner guy in Ulm, had the best Döner Pizza.... with feta cheese and rucola and fresh tomatoes.
Pizza is a gift from God
Put pineapple on it and it’s the devils work though
I used to work at a pizzeria, there was a pizza on the menu that had roasted garlic cloves in place of tomato sauce with fontina cheese, and grilled asparagus. Once it was pulled from the oven it be topped with Prosciutto di Parma and drizzled with balsamic reduction. It is very tasty.
I believe it's called si - dè Döner, like the town in Turkey. I'm not a big pizza fan, but when I make pizza at home my kids like minced meat, bell pepper and onions fried and then combined with tomato and BBQ sauce as topping for a pizza
Yes to tuna pizza! I also like to add some sweet corn 🤷♀️😉
Wow, never seen white asparagus pizza here in Hamburg (and believe me, since my father had two Italian restaurants and we went to a lot of other Italian restaurants, I have eaten a lof of different pizzas), except when they had a special promotion at Domino's. Could be a regional thing. I also grew up on tuna pizza like Phil, or salami pizza.
Not only is the price half of what id pay,the atmosphere.chairs, tables and cleanliness (from what I can tell) well, lets add another $5 USD to that $15 Eros $28-$30 USD pizza Even your pizza boxes are nicer than USA’s.
Omg so huge and so cheap..at least double the price in US
That´s the reason why they don´t offer free water in restaurants here in Germany and you get strange looks, if you do ask for tap water. Restaurants usually just break even with their sold food and they make their profits with selling beverages.
When I lived in Hauptstuhl, near Kaiserslautern I loved the Turkish pizza at the Doner Kebap at Kaufland. Also, the Flammkuchen (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was just amazing. I think it may have been unique to that region since it was so close to France.
Nothing wrong in spelling "Flammkuchen"! Well done!
As a teenager growing up in Germany in the mid 80's there was a pizza place called Spizza in Ludwigsburg that had pretty good pizza. We would all gather at each others homes on the weekends and order several of their pizzas. The thing that I remember the most about Spizza was that they would deliver all of their pizzas on little red scooters no matter the weather, rain, shine or snow! They were awesome! I have often wondered if they are still around, they were hugely popular back then.
Wow perfect timing you guys! We are having Italian tonight ☺️ Our favorite pizza is Quattro stagioni 👍
My favorite pizzas to buy are tuna and Pineapple. But I also love this pizza dough you can buy in Germany where you can put the toppings on it yourself. I put salami , tuna , pineapple and sometimes also corn on them 😌
In Canada donair pizza is very common- "donair" was invented in Halifax but has spread all over the country and it's shaved mystery meat served on a pita with onions, tomatoes, and a bizzare condiment called "sweet sauce" that's condensed milk, vinegar, and sugar. I don't care for it but it's hugely popular, and "donair pizza," which is all of those toppings (yes, including the sweet sauce) and it's actually better than actual donairs; I think the cheese helps it. I live in Calgary, thousands of miles from Halifax, and both donairs themselves and donair pizza is everywhere here. I discovered tuna pizza in Germany when I was in Krefeld (very near your lovely Duesseldorf) to study German through a program for high school students from Indiana University (Indiana is my home state but I emigrated from the US when I was 33 and have been in Canada since then, for 25 years now). I loved it then and love it today; it's like a perfect tuna melt and I'm also on team onion. And it's not that hard to find in Canada albeit at higher-end pizza places. It should be a standard everywhere.
My favorite pizza is with tuna, onions and BLACK OLIVES!!!! 😊
Back home in Alabama, there are Oyster Bienville pizzas and Mobilian pizzas. Oyster Bienville is oysters with everything used in Oysters Bienville, the Mobilian is shrimp, ham, pineapple rings and Maraschino Cherries, both have a hot spicy sauce and the place I went to offered to put some Oysters Bienville on a Mobilian.
Really surprised to hear they don't have tuna pizza in the US!
When I lived in Germany (FRG) in the 80s, I fell in love with some of the German food, especially anything russet potato based as their potatoes actually tasted better than the ones I've had in America (for a more earthy flavor), the Beer (my favorite was Pilsner Urquell, a Czech beer readily available in most pubs), and sausages which were anywhere from good to excellent everywhere. A favorite standard would be currywurst mit pommes frites with a curry based ketchup, after an evening of clubbing. And if you are travelling in Europe, I would suggest with a sense of adventure, to ask for the "house salad", especially if the menu doesn't state what it consists of. Throughout Europe, there isn't a regular standard, and you could receive just about anything. I digressed.... My favorite unexpected item on a German pizza, was boiled egg slices. But when you think about it, eggs go well with a tomato based sauce, It had just never occurred to me, to try it on pizza.
Chicago we have Italian beef and giardiniera (Italian relish of pickled veggies)…..which is my favorite tavern style (thin with cornmeal crust)
Mij favorite Pizza come from the real Italian Pizza restaurant because they have Pizza Galzone and Pizza Stagione
I have seen very few people eating pizza with fork and knife in germany. I thing some elderly people do, but definitely not a common thing.
My grandfather's widow who now lives outside of Karlsruhe introduced us to Flammekuechen on our last visit! OH. EM. GEE! I love that variation...thumbs up!!
Nur Pizzen von Italienischen Pizzerias sind für mich richtige Pizzen, das ganze Zeug vom Dönermann oder Inder hat damit nichts zu tun. Weder der Teig , Tomatensauce oder Käse sind annähernd identisch 🤔
Alltime favourite pizza: spinaci pizza with garlic and scampi Guilty pizza pleasure: tuna pizza with a pound of tzatziki😁😍
Since moving to the states I have invented my own version of tuna pizza. Americans don't know what they are missing. I buy a plain margarita pizza from California Kitchen, add tuna and unions as well as some extra cheese. Not the same as in Germany, but tastes pretty good. My favorite pizza is the fruiti de mare. Spargel pizza seems to be pretty new, but I can just imagine how good it tastes. Here in the states we sometimes get white asparagus from Peru. Not worth the extra money though, because it does not have the unique German spargel taste. Love your videos. Thank you.
Tuna on pizza 🤢🤢🤢
I used to do that all the time, when i came to the US. I was really surprised that they didn't even have Tuna pizza. So whenever we ordered pizza, i got me a normal cheese pizza and added tuna and Onions myself 😂
@@mrbear1302 try it. You will be surprised.
You can't go more German than pizza "Spezial". With "Formvorderschinken", Salami, Mushrooms third choice from the great plastic-bucket and green peppers, because they're "exotic". Trust me, I worked 10 years in pizza delivery
When we visit America my mom always orders from Papa Murphys and our favorite is "The Cowboy" which is a supreme type pizza and I must admit, it's really good, fresh from the oven (cuz at PM you cook it yourself). And my mom always wraps all the leftover slices individually in plastic wrap so we have breakfast in the morning - oh man, I miss my home! I've never had pizza in Germany that I like. Thanks for the tips, I'll be looking for that pizza chain now for that tuna/onion one.
Best pizza IMO is the classic calzone. Call me old fashioned :)
You should try Pizza Kassandra with gorgonzola, pears and walnut pieces! It seems unusual at first, but it's sooo leeecker! :)
This upload was perfect timing! I just had sat down with my leftover cold pizza for dinner and was looking for something to watch! A note on toppings: I worked at two pizzerias when I was in high school in the US and both places trained me to put the toppings on between the cheese and tomato sauce, because of the type of oven they used so that the cheese would melt more evenly and the crust wouldn't get so soggy (or that is how they explained it). And when I was in Norway we had kebap pizza, except instead of tomato sauce, they used the spicy garlic mayo sauce with some kind of tomato paste in it as the sauce.
Health and wellness
My favourite Swedish-style pizza is a lot of veggies and ham or some spicy meat. And some chilli flakes on. My mothers favourite is shrimp, ham and tuna. My aunt has a egg cracked on hers, and raw onion.
Ich hab vorher noch nie Spargel-Pizza gesehen, wusste gar nicht dass es das gibt. Aber beim Edeka hab ich neulich ne Pizza mit Fischstäbchen drauf gesehen, ich glaube die werd ich mal probieren. Meine Lieblings-Pizzen sind Salami, Thunfisch und Pasta 😋 I've never seen an asparagus-pizza before, I never knew that it exists. At Edeka I recently saw a pizza with fish-sticks on it, I think I'll try it next time. My favourite pizzas are peperoni, tuna and pasta 😋
I need a Pizza right now.
haha same!
Where i used to work in the northern Ruhrgebiet there was a place which had Pizza Gyros with Sauce Hollandaise on top. It was something else. Tasted pretty good, though. We used to call this monster a Pizza Pancreatica from the Pancreatitis one would presumably get.
I once added asparagus and sauce hollandaise to a supermarket pizza and it was crazy good
About 5 years ago, the Lufthansa in-flight magazine actually had an article giving advice to foreign visitors on German etiquette, for example: don’t jaywalk, don’t throw your bottles and cans into the trash (return them for the Pfand), and don’t eat your pizza with your hands. I found all of these to be true, except we saw a few people picking up their slices in restaurants, and not getting any judgment. I guess times might be changing on that one!
I've never eaten the asparagus pizza, but I I love white asparagus.
I would totally try all of them, so interesting and definitely something new!
About your third pizza - in Sweden the most popular pizza is something similar, but they call it "Kebabpizza". It's basically a basic tomato and cheese pizza, but with kebabmeat (like your döner), raw onions, feferoni, lettuce and fresh tomato slices. On top is lot's of kebabsauce. Many also put french fries on top of that... I find this pizza very strange since the cold sallad toppings completely destroys the pizza, but swedes like it 🤷🏻♂️
Looks so damn good! And the prices are amazing. So jealous!
Hawaiian pizza (ham with pineapple) is controversial. The first one I tried did NOT have tomato sauce; instead it had a fairly thick layer of sweated onions, topped with ham, pineapple and mozzarella. I loved it. Nowadays they omit that soft onion layer and replace it with tomato sauce, which I don’t like at all. The tomato clashes with the pineapple.
I grew up in NYC and back in the day you could get anchovies on pizza usually on an " Everything " pie so pepperoni , mushrooms, black olives, onion & green peppers Sometimes called a " Garbage Pie" but the name changed because outsiders didn't think it sounded appetizing! And folding the slice is 100% New York Eating a slice without folding it feels weird Also Gyros pizza with a beef/ lamb meat mixture and a yogurt sauce is a thing at pizzerias that are owned by Egyptians Keep up thses fun videos!
In Connecticut, it’s a local tradition to get clams on pizza.
Ihr müsst mal eine Calzone gefüllt mit Pirata Spezial probieren 😋 In Euskirchen ist eine spezializät Pizza mit Gyros oder Dönerfleisch und Hollandaise zu belegen.
I too Deana would mix Mac n cheese with tuna as well. Yet remember also adding peas as well. Was great as a budget food! Love that you mentioned an loved it too! Now feel I need to retry it! Been years since I have had it! Lol. Wonder if it’s as good as it was back then.
In Sweden kebab (döner) pizza have sauce on it. You can also get pizza with kebab fries and bernaise sauce.
my Grandma used to put canned tuna in her spaghetti. I loved it growing up, but haven't had it again as an adult.
As a dutchie, i am a sucker for Shoarmapizza. It is sooo good. Doesn't matter if i order from newyorkpizza or make it myself. I do always need garlicsauce with it. Makes it sooo much better.
I've seen a tuna pizza on menus in the US, but it's certainly not common. After hearing the reaction, I do want to try it! For me, I just really enjoy a simple American style pepperoni pizza.
Favorite topping is mixed mushrooms, roasted garlic and olives, usually black.
They all look amazing! 🍕🍕🍕I’m in Chicagoland so it’s either deep dish or tavern style (thin crust, box cut).
Ever tried Italian beef and giardiniera as pizza toppings?? Prob the closest thing to a döner pizza you'd be able to find.
@@avonlave I haven’t, but I just had an Italian beef sandwich with giardiniera from Buona Beef. Yum!
@@manxkin envious! There's Portillo's here in AZ but I'm 1.5 hrs from the nearest one. There's a Rosatis Pizza about an hour from me, and I'll get an Italian beef n giardiniera (and onion) pizza there when I'm nearby. The closest thing I can get to tavern style out here.
@@avonlave My closest Portillo’s is 15 minutes away!
Ah yes the ubiquitous Chicagoland party-cut pizza. I think that’s the only place I’ve ever seen pizza cut into squares. The rest of the country must think it’s very odd. But I love it I love those little tiny corner pieces they are my favorite.
Pizza with the egg in the middle?
Ohhh yumm! also good!
Döner Pizza is fantastic. Most Pizza places have been turkish for a long time now, so it surprises me it took them this long to combine those.
i was just about to comment that i miss the döner pizza, but there you have it :) our döner pizza also has sauce hollandaise on it, first i was a bit skeptic about it, but wow, if you can ask for it, do yourself a favor and try it - you can thank me later :)
It seems pretty common to have Indian fast food places also sell pizza in Germany, probably since they don't need to add much to make the "pizza", they just use their naan dough and all they need is some generic toppings and sauce. Which probably also explains the difference in the dough, since it's not real pizza dough.
Please explain more, is that really the reason they combine cuisines in one restaurant? I have seen it in Wuppertal. But I don't know what Indian fast food is.
@@LythaWausW They just sell everything so they have a bigger offer for customers. It’s often times not really good food.
Love thin pizza with sausage and mushrooms!
Döner/kebab meat on pizza has been a thing in Sweden since atleast 1982. It's surprising it's only in the past 10-15 years that it's gotten bigger in Germany.
We also have the Shoarma-pizza. My favorite is the Quatro Fromaggio, the 4 cheese pizza mnomnomnom. There is one oizza restaurant here in Tilburg who makes the best one. It's too hot for pizza now, but when it's cooler I'd love to eat one
I would LOVE to try a Döner pizza. We used to have a food truck in my little town here in Oregon that served Döner Kebab and vinegar based hot potato salad. The lady that owned/operated it lived in Germany for years, and when she moved back to the states she opened it up. Unfortunately there weren't enough regular customers and she ended up closing shop. I would go there once or twice a week for a lamb Döner Kebab and potato salad. SO GOOD!!
When I studied in Copenhagen they had this white pizza with thin patato slices, pesto and cheese, which sounded super weird, but is quite tasty
I was born and raised in Germany but live in NYS now.. of course NY has great pizza but I really miss the verity of pizza toppings in Germany. This video made me miss it even more. I always ordered a side of garlic sauce with my doener pizza. 😁 my favorite was the sucuc pizza or pizza panna. 🤤🤤🤤
I would LOVE that last pizza. Who I am kidding they all looked awesome
You can order the Dönerpizza with sauce, it’s like dipping it in ranch.
Different meal: We have a brand new Greek fast food place in town and I went there yesterday. I was craving a good gyros and boy got I disappointed. From Germany, I was so used to have nice cuts with a Knife from the Skewer that have a bit of a crunch and thinkness. Here they were ulta thin and no crunch at all. The tzatziki was so liquid, it was almost more a drink than a sauce. They wrapped it in pita bread (ok, fast food) with Fries (?). The thing was $11.35 plus tax. One a scale from 1 to 10, I would rate it a poor 3. I have eaten at true Greek places in Gilroy (US Garlic Capital) and that was a delight.
I like making a thin crust using tortilla shells. Bacon cheese and pinapple with some bbq added to the pasta sauce. I also like making a taco pizza.
And the most exciting of the pizza are boxes 😅🍕👌 with so many beautiful pictures and design!
As you pointed out in your KZhead clip right at the begining of your stay in the USA back in June of 2021 ("Why I left Germany", 18 June 2021), your channel started as a TRAVEL channel, and you (quotation) "have a strong desire to go and see things .. so much to explore"; you added: ".. innovative ideas .. we just don't wanna do .. talking head videos .." (sic!). At least in the last 6 months not a single international trip? Even not to one of the neighboring countries Belgium or the Netherlands? E.g. Den Haag / The Hague & Scheveningen are highly recommended - and thanks to good rail connections from your "home base" Düsseldorf (and travel rebates thanks to your "BahnCard" ;-) ) a no brainer...!
I love Döner pizza. A few years ago we had here a place who offered a variant of Döner pizza with curry sauce. Sounds weird but tasted sooo good. I also love pizza with peperonis, "Hirtenkäse" and olives. I used to hate olives but when I became 35 I suddenly began to love them. Taste really changes every seven years. 😊
Pizza Day!!!! Those all look so good.
My mom is German and my dad American and I was fortunate enough to be born in Germany and lived there until I was 16 Every time we went to this German restaurant my dad got a fish pizza I know it had anchovies but can’t remember the rest I miss Deutschland ❤️
My favourite Döner place offers Mozarella Pizza with Döner meat and garlic sauce...it's _heavy_ to say the least. And it pretty much ruined every other Pizza for me. 😂
Whats also amazing, to add spinach to tunafish onion pizza or even better, combine spinacci morzarella with tunafish onion into one.
I like the normal Salami Pizza 🍕 plus extra Cheese..
Yesss cheessseee pleaseeeee
zu viele Extras verderben jede Pizza, denke ich außerdem.
Last time in Germany I had a Pizza Frutti di Mare, that I have never seen in the US, it is also getting harder to find anchovis on Pizza here 😢
When I see the pizzas like this and other foods you have shown from Germany and other countries. Each time I wish we had a lot of those foods here in America. I just recently found your channel. Hello from North Carolina.
My Top 3 Topping Combinations are: 1. Pineapple, canned Mushroom and Jalapenos 2. White Asparagus with Onions and Kapers 3, Smoked tofu with banana, currypowder and garlic
Love the Thunfisch Pizza!! Whenever I even suggest it here at home in Toronto, ppl look and wonder. Their loss but do I miss it!
I'm German too and there was a pizza place which boasted "we put everything you want on your pizza". So one day I ordered a "Pizza currywurst pommes" and the guy asked "ok, which topping on your pizza?" and I was like: "uhm, I told you: currywurst pommes". and then he realized what I ordered. it wasn't a bad pizza but a really weird one of a kind one. btw. I love tuna and döner pizza.
Döner kebab pizza is common in Norway and Sweden as well.
The Döner kebab pizza is very popular in Sweden.
There are three Pizzaplace right around my corner and so it's super competetive. My favourite one, got a large Margherita (30cm) for 4,50€. Is it the best Pizza in Dortmund? Probably not. Is this the best price/value? Definetly, especially because the Pizza is really *really* good!
Definitely check out Swedish pizzas and pizza salad (a pickled cabbage side salad that you'll always get with any pizza order...without asking) bananas and peanuts, kebab (including the sauce and fries), beef and béarnaise sauce, tuna is a must but usually comes with with prawns and mussels too ..I cod go on. Like German pizza they see thing. Rarely pre-sliced though and often eaten with cutlery/knife and fork.
I didnt even know Tuna Pizza isnt common in the US. Its the best !
Anchovy is the usual fish topping in the US.
I asked for a tuna pizza at a pizza place in Florida about 15 years ago. They looked at me like I was eating little kids.
The Hollandaise pizza seemed strange to me at first... then I thought about it and realized that Eggs Benedict Pizza would probably be a super awesome brunch food.
