  • Everyone has an opinion, so here is mine. The best things about the Grenadier are its locking differentials and the overall ruggedness combined with comfort. Otherwise it may be too long, wide, high, heavy and complex under the hood. I would have sprinkled a little SUZUKI JIMNY on it, making it 186'' long, 72'' wide, 70" high, 112" wheelbase, weight under 5,000lbs, powertrain 4.0 litre n/a inline six cylinder, solid axles front and rear, 8 speed automatic/ 6 speed manual, 3 locking differentials and a bit more original exterior design though I like the front end look and utility.

  • I love the Grenadier and 4 runner both. However if you’re talking about offroad capability and off roaders, we know most people alter their vehicles. If the comparison is factory vs factory, fair enough. But if we’re talking about potential capabilities, the 4 runner hands down has way more ability currently to be built up to absolutely destroy a Grenadier, and still come in way under that sticker price

  • "When in doubt, throttle out? AKA Momentum. Works most of the time. Great job. I am surprised the Ineos needed the front and rear locker but I couldn't see the rear tire contact to the ground. What if throttle out were employed. Would it have gotten going without the front locker?

    • @@stephenbarabas6286show me how many British 4x4’s have over a million miles on them with the original engine and transmission. Toyotas not perfect but it’s a night and day difference between British vehicles and Toyotas as far as reliability goes. I had the drive shaft fall off my 2002 Land Rover discovery while I was merging into a highway. Plus it had an oil leak the dealership told me they would never be able to fix. My FJ and 4Runner after that never had a single issue.

    • This is a joke right? British vehicles are some of the most poorly built, unreliable vehicles for the last 60 years. I guarantee the Grenander has 10k in problems, at least, before it even hits 50,000 miles. Just like Land Rovers, just like Jags, just like Astons.

    • Wouldn't really call it British. The drivetrain is German, the axles are Italian, and it's manufactured in France.

  • Alot of downtown and hotel parking entrance garages are only six feet six inches high and have tight turns. If you wedged a Grenadier in there, you would have to drop the tires down to 10 psi to get it out!

  • I'd love to see you guys do some low traction stuff in moab next time you go out....not just hells revenge, but go out and do some of the other famous trails like 3D for example, which has great tests for the vehicles, and in the middle a pretty insane climb on a combination of slickrock and dirt. and yeah, any test like this without a wrangler is....incomplete.

  • The front steering guard is useless, doesn't it protect a cooler? I watched the snow episode, did it need 3 locked? Is a basically a G wagen as far as wheel travel and diff locks, and how would it compare to a proper Defender with no lift but front and rear diff locks?

  • The 4R TRD OR is a better well rounded experience. More affordable than the Pro. AND can be optioned with the KDSS. (for less money) Regardless, I would take the Pro as exampled here over the IG. Not that the IG is bad for a tractor OR. Because that is where it will shine. But you have to GET to the OR bits for it to shine. Unless you want to trailer it to the OR areas in a luxury tow rig, it just seems to make more sense to get a vehicle that has the manners and comfort of on roader that can do OR when you get there. And IF you wanted to tow something very capable to OR in later, why spend 80+K on the IG when you can spend 15-45K on a SXS that weighs less and is just as capable if not more so. 🤷‍♂

  • “If you want something that’s brand new, kinda old school in its design and engineering, then ya the Ineos is one of the only options on the road” Umm… the 4Runner that’s the same design and engineering since the previous decade and a half begs to differ with its na V6.

  • The more I see about the Grenadier the more it feels to me like a discount G-Wagen. It is very well put together (No squeaks nor rattles. Even the sound insulation is great, since you can hear the voice of both of them from inside it very clear with no noise background), it feels solid and built to last. The payload reflects that too: suspension, axles, etc can't be weak. But it has some flaws that would make me not to buy one: - Center console. Just no my thing. I want to be able to see my speed without moving the head and looking to the side is not as comfortable as looking down. - Outside USA you can get the diesel version. Better range and safer to carry. - "The bump" for those that drive on the left lane of the road (a big chunk of potential buyers are RHD). - Manual transmission is not available. Time will tell but I think this can be one of those vehicles that get more recognition as time passes (if the electronics keep working) because it seems mechanicaly very strong.

  • This obviously goes without saying but the Grenadier is the closest to a new 80 series one can buy. I love how you point out the plusses of the Grenadier in the knowledge that the 80 series had those same plusses 30 years ago...largely apart from two things: 1) the 80 series locks work better. But, and, 2) the power train of the Grenadier is admittedly more potent (tho perhaps more questionable). Maybe over time the Italian axle locks on the Grenadier will capitulate into agreement with your command. That's how it went in 1942 anyway. lol
