  • As a mechanic when they say they improved something it means that they screwed something up. Around 10 to 12 years 150,0000 possibly 200,000 miles I hope you have at least 12 to 15 grand to replace the turbo and the battery pack, because that's what it's going to cost to keep it on the road and even less if you don't keep up with the maintenance.They should have kept the 4.0 V6 and just upgraded the transmission and regeared the rear end. Don't say I didn't warn you and if you don't believe me I'll tell you when I have to service your vehicle. Would highly recommend extended warranties as long as you keep the vehicle.

  • Great job on the review; I own 2024 TRD ORP with KDSS (my personal upgrade from a 3rd Gen with 275k). Note: Depending on how it’s doing I may consider a 2028 based on a known track record. Even the Taco now has some teething issues. Time will tell. All I know its only basic maintenance for me 3 years from now. The hybrid battery is a huge issue for me unless Toyota extends the hybrid battery warranty to 180k miles. Traditional 4Runner owners’ are in it for the long haul. The hybrid battery is a huge bill down the road. Under the current warranty plans from Toyota I’ll be tracking the non hybrid to see if it’s worth it.

    @robertonunez9621@robertonunez9621Ай бұрын
    • Thank you! I wouldn't be too worried about the hybrid battery life. Toyota's warranty is already 10 years 150,000 miles, and they often last far longer than that. Luckily Toyota went with their well proven and low cost NiMH battery for the 4Runner which I was happy to see.

I just purchased a 24 OR, very happy with it but I still kept my 98 and I am not going to part with it. Believe it or not, if I was to go take one of the vehicles off road right now … it would be the 98 sr5. I am so confident in its ability to get me to and back.

  • I would stick with the 2024 as well because you know what you’re getting; a vehicle with a proven track record of exceptional reliability. Not bashing the new 6th generation model but I agree that it is not uncommon for there to be some issues with first model year vehicles. I say give it 2-3 model years and go for the 2027-2028 6th Gen 4Runner.

    @SaadRahimu@SaadRahimuАй бұрын
  • Turbo 4 (not the +hybrid) makes premium a must, requires more oil change diligence, will cost significantly more to buy, but gives only a slightly better fuel economy, giving just a bit more HP and 25lbs of torque over the old V6.

  • I'd take the 2024, just bought one. Until the new drive train and motor have had at least 3 years to work.out issues, it would be an expensive gamble. Ultimately, I believe tbe resale on the 2024 will remain high for some time. It's the last iconic 4 runner

  • The new 4Runner is an awesome truck thats sexy AF, but i love how old school the 5th gen is. With that roaring 4.0 v6, awesome old school trucky driving dynamics, & manual transfer case in the trd off road & pro! The old school body on frame vibes r what make the 4Runner so awesome! If u want more refinement out of a vehicle, then u probably wouldn’t be looking at a 4Runner in the 1st place

  • I was very excited about the 6th Gen but I found it very underwhelming to be honest. Now I love my 2023 SR5 even more with its classic reliable design. Get a 2024 if you can, it is already a classic and as tough and reliable as they come…and with a little bit of money you can even make it more tastefully modern with all the aftermarket parts

  • Turbocharged engines get ruined if you drive mostly less than 2 miles,on most of your trips and the engine doesn't get warmed up. You probably want to get rid of the turbocharged vehicle before the warranty expires.

    • Driving short distances is bad for any engine. It sounds like what you’re actually referring to is direct injection. Thankfully, Toyota designed the 2.4T with D4S so it won’t build carbon any worse than the current V6 engine.

  • No matter what he said the 2024 four runner is better because there is no way the new generation will surpass the quality longevity reliability and the reason why people enjoy the previous generation. If you want new bells and whistles, go for the new more expensive forerunner and you know it will be more expensive but if you want something to last for years, enough said.

  • The 5th Gen must be completely different from the 4th Gen despite the engine because nobody in the wackiest moment would ever call it unrefined. The engine is so smooth. No harshness, vibration, nothing. Wind noise is the only intrusion into the can, unless you put big off-road tires on. I respect different opinions, but sometimes it seems like reviewers just pull things from the sky when comparing old and new. They start to imagine things that never existed to create some separation. For the 5th Gen, I've heard underpowered. I've heard lumbering. I've heard like a tank. Never heard the 4.0 being associated with being unrefined. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I drive a 4th Gen.
