  • I HAVE TO ADRESS SOMETHING... Superman did not let innocent people die! The buildings were completely abandoned we even saw Louis's boss telling everyone to leave. During the final fight we saw that no one was in any of the buildings. There was even a shot showing the inside of the building as superman was thrown through it (yes it was superman who was thrown and not Zod). Everyone in Metropolis were on the streets below trying to leave. The vast majority of people who died were killed by Zod and the other kryptonians, not by superman. In Pacific rim the good guys showed little sympathy for innocent civilians and caused major damage and no one complained about that.

  • I know a lot of people will disagree with what I’m about to say, but I must say this: If Superman HAD spared Zod...Then what? Think about it for a second: In the comics, whenever Superman fights Zod, he usually throws him in the phantom zone or a high-tech kryptonite-powered prison or some crap like that. However, In this movie’s universe, there’s no sufficiently advanced high-tech prison that can hold super villains yet. Also, Superman doesn’t know how to access the phantom zone and he doesn’t know that kryptonite is a thing yet. Therefore, without access to the phantom zone, kryptonite, magic, red sun energy or anything that could restrain someone as powerful as a kryptonian...where would he have put Zod? There’s absolutely nothing that can restrain or hold someone like him. If Superman had spared Zod, there would’ve been another fight equally as destructive as the first one...and there’s no guarantee that Superman would win the second round. Also, I think it’s worth pointing out that back in the Christopher Reeves movies, Superman killed Zod there too and nobody complained about it back then. So, it’s okay for the supposed “idealistic” and “kid-friendly” version to get a pass on stuff like that, but the so-called “mature version” doesn’t? Give me a break.

Superman killed the last of his kind, his only chance at ever seeing krypton again. Are you seriously telling me he didn't learn anything? he even let out a scream after he killed him. How is supes supposed to know he never wants to kill if he's never killed before? now he knows not to kill. Idk maybe you want your movies to be fairy tales or to be like like dragon ball z where goku politely asks the villain who wants to destroy his planet to fight away from the people and the city so they don't get hurt and they just somehow agree like they aren't actually bad guys, you're acting like the destruction and what not isn't being addressed in BvS. Pak in the comics is showing us how Clark went from Cocky and brash to a more mature guy. These movies will do the same with what MoS gave us. The movie is also packed for potential storylines to be explored in the future. If I want a generic movie with a shitty villain and too much humor, Ill go watch GotG or Avengers

Don't get me wrong, you can make a new take on something work, but Man of Steel was just poorly written. It wanted to sound far more intelligent than it really was an ended up being stupid and logically inconsistent as a result. And how is Zod not a shitty villain in Man of Steel? He is custom-bred to be a one-note villain with no surprises whatsoever. I'm not going to act like Loki was a flawless villain, but at least he pulled out some surprise moments now and then and had enough personality to make it satisfying when he was beaten.

I have some issues with it but I can see why the Death by Kryptonian idea is plausible. To his indoctrinated mind he has nothing left. No reason to be. Even if he killed all humans he'd be alone, useless, a failure. But if he fought and died then he'd at least have a warrior's death and the only person remotely capable of doing that is Clark. So he would follow him to get his proper death. Think about it. Despite what Zod said he didn't just fly off and start leveling the area to kill all humans. He taunted him with it and then Clark attacked him. Zod provoked him into action when Clark seemed to want to deescalate and settle things as it was pointless (he gets a point there). For being a trained soldier who quickly adapted to his powers he seemed to be matched by Clark, a farm boy who barely used his powers up to then, the whole way. Even at the end he provoked Clark into killing him by endangering others. It really does seem like Zod wanted Clark to kill him if you look at it a certain way. .

    • +Joker None of those Marvel Heroes are Superman. Captain America is the closest to his morality, but he's a soldier, meaning he's literally been paid and trained to kill people by the dozens. No comparison whatsoever when it comes to morality; not a single Marvel hero in any of those movies has ever been defined by a no-kill rule. Iron Man? Slaughtered his kidnappers, Nazis, Japanese, et cetera et cetera since the beginning. Thor? He's an Asgardian who kind of likes beating faces in. Hawkeye, Black Widow, Winter Soldier, Falcon? All assassins and/or soldiers. Bruce Banner/Hulk? He actually *is* terrified of killing people, and one of his defining aspects is that he never personally wracks up a body count. Ever. It doesn't happen. Nobody dies in a Hulk rampage, weird as that sounds. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch? Also don't care at all; they take after their dad that way, sometimes.That is why no one complains. It isn't the death and destruction; it's who's doing it and what the other options were (for the character and the script).

      @lucdoue1850@lucdoue18508 жыл бұрын
    • houga chaka The condition for lifting Thor's hammer is "being worthy of the power of Thor". The explanation for Superman is that, while he's an upstanding guy with a very good heart, he doesn't have the "warrior spirit" (words of the writers) that is part of what makes Thor a good wielder for Mjolnir. The idea, I think, is that it's a powerful *weapon* for good, not just a trinket. Being "worthy" means being willing to wield it regularly and thoroughly, not just having good intentions. That's why Captain America actually was able to lift it: he was a good man first and foremost, but he was also a soldier who was more than willing to put it to use if need be. Superman, logically, wouldn't want something so powerful for dealing with anything but the strongest enemies (and he did, once, in a crossover; Odin lifted the enchantment for him, sensing that he met the moral criterion even if he didn't meet the other one).

If you actually watch the movie, you'll see the about 95 percent of the destruction came from the Kryptonians who made is clear that they dont care about the earth. This movie wasn't perfect but I wish people would get it through their heads that most of the destruction they complain about didn't even come from Superman. Example: In this video they blame Superman and say he destroyed Bruce Wayne's satellite but it was clearly Zod who broke it. If anything, Superman tried to catch it.

    @mustangsilver16@mustangsilver169 жыл бұрын
    • This conversation needs to stop showing up. if you'll pay attention you'll see Superman did try to get away from Metropolis. Zod smashed him and the satellite back to Metropolis so Zod could make him watch people he loves die. Zod's also the one who swung Superman through what... seven buildings? Everything in Smallville though was his fault because Zack Snyder needed to make his product placement quota. We'll have to wait for the sequel when Ben Afleck kicks this guys ass just how bad the destruction/death toll was and how much was actually Superman's fault. You know, aside from the obvious reason of being born and sent to Earth as a baby, since he totally had control over that.

  • Say what you like, this for me was the best superman live action movie DC ever put out. And besides, DC comics always had a dark, serious tone to them, that's what gives them the edge in the fight of who's better?: Marvel or DC. But good job anyways guys, you always manage to make me laugh.

Or One of Darkseid's minions was named Granny Goodness. Or Matter-Eater Lad. Or Brother Power the Geek (blame the 60s). Or Danny the Street from the Doom Patrol. Or Ambush Bug. So yeah...you just keep going on about how 'dark' DC Comics are...

  • How did Superman let the people die if he could do nothing about it because the machine would have destroyed the world if he didn't stop it? And stop with the whole Christopher Reeve nostalgia crap that Superman has to be happy and cheerful in movies. Those were those movies, that's not Superman or his universe. During those same years Superman was being smash to his death in the comics.

    @spidavenom4@spidavenom49 жыл бұрын
    • And I'm a Marvel fan too but stop with all this dark and gritty DC crap cause Marvel sets tones that make it fun and okay to kill people unlike DC. Between all the Avengers in the MCU they've killed hundreds of people and aliens or whatnot. Just chill and watch the fuckin movie for what is, and if u think the Christopher Reeve films are what Superman movies are suppose to be like, please read a comic or even watch one of the Justice League cartoon episodes.

      @spidavenom4@spidavenom49 жыл бұрын
    • Brenden Johnson "During those same years Superman was being smash to his death in the comics." Actually, the Superman comics from that era were pretty lighthearted, not so much as in the 50s and 60s, but it was far from heavy-handed drama. Perry White gets superpowers, there's a team-up with Santa Claus, a Super-Mobile, Cark Kent and Lana Lang became TV news anchors, Supergirl became a soap opera actress, shrinking, growing, and characters like Bizarro, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Pegleg Portia, Father Nature, and Captain Strong (He's essentially Popeye). The Doomsday fight happened several years after Christopher Reeve hung up his cape.

    • Joe Schreck Same time frame. My point was, the movie critics saying it's not Superman because it's no so inspirational and shit like the Richard Donner films, obviously never read a superman comic series, DC cartoon, cartoon movie etc since that time.

      @spidavenom4@spidavenom49 жыл бұрын
    • ***** What did I complain about? I just said those Richard Donner films is not what Superman is anymore and hasn't been since the 80's. The critics who hated that it wasn't Richard Donner tone like, obviously don't keep in touch with the universe. Stop trying to be one of those dudes forcing something and turning my words off of something I didn't even say.

    • Brenden Johnson The Doomsday fight was five and a half years after Christopher Reeve's last Superman movie and DC Comics' 1987 reboot... hardly the same time frame.

      @axel0c@axel0c10 жыл бұрын
    • axel0c yeah I think comics can be put aside in this argument--even the comics man of steel was based off of were loosely interpreted- when I want to see film and tv superman I watch the animated movies they bring out like superman and the elite etc.- that movie actually is the perfect example of why superman shouldn't kill, same with batman, it isn't because they can't it's because it would be too easy, just crossing that line (one reason villains do the things they do is because they have that power) would get easier and they would become more used to it, less reluctant and maybe one day even become oppressors themselves.
