Hi! Bonjour! I am a French English interpreter. I just wanted to defend my poor colleagues "dubbing" during live events. When you interpret, you have to be careful with harsh language and insults: you can either tone them down a bit, because with body language and the original sound on people realise what's actually going on and there's no need to increase the tension, or say the words as they come if it's really needed (if a witness is testifying to court for instance). Furthermore, it is extremely difficult to translate jokes, especially if you haven't received the documents before the event. And I want to make a point here: we're not actually dubbing actors, hence the tone of his voice. We may play with our tone to pass on nuances and meaning, but we're not actors or comedians (even if some interpreters can actually do this, most of us won't). If you have never heard the title of this specific film before, you may have trouble catching it while you're talking and try to do your best without it. Usually, interpreters work in shifts: there's one interpreter translating for 30 minutes while the other one rests and can help jotting down notes (figures, titles, names...) or doing a quick internet research for the other. Maybe the boothmate had to go to the bathroom at that time and couldn't help... Our job is extremely difficult and requires several skills, focus and stress management. This interpreter did the best he could in this context. It was not perfect, but we all experience failures once in a while 😅

Oh this is interesting, I had no idea foreign language translators switch out every 30 minutes too! I’ve done some ASL (American Sign Language) interpreting live like that for 30 minute shifts swapping with partner but they told its to be done that way because of carpal tunnel syndrome risk from signing so much and so fast in live events/jobs as the reason. It’s interesting that it’s done this way too for non-sign language foreign translation too!

@@ilhuicatlamatini I didn't know you switched for that reason! We switch because the quality of interpreting has been proven to decrease when you work for more than thirty minutes. This is due to the many many tasks your brain has to perform at the same time to keep on interpreting. And with remote interpreting it's even worse, we have to swap every twenty to fifteen minutes to give ourselves a break 😅 have you done any remote event and noticed a difference?

Seeing how he got shot down in flames, I doubt he would accept, and that would be understandable. There’s a difference between laughing at the whole situation, and picking out imagined flaws in the interpreter’s work as Paul did, especially when the interpreter’s name is publicly mentioned. This guy’s job depends on his reputation, and making him look like a crap interpreter for a whole 5 minutes and just taking the final 30 seconds of the video to say that his job is actually tough, saying ’respect’ when you spent 5 minutes disrespecting his work and professional image... Who’s going to hire him now?

@@aymericdp You're taking this too far mate, he spent the whole video saying that the guy was trying to get a compromise between translating what was going on and not saying anything that would make the channel censor his words. The fact that the translation made no sense to any non English-speaking person was just true not in any form disrespectful. Facts are facts. Now if the facts are disrespectful, what do you want to do? 🤷♂️

Exactly, facts are facts, and Paul actually misrepresents how Chris Rock's words were translated. And then makes fun of how the interpreter supposedly keeps getting it wrong. And then gives his name. That's taking it too far.

About interpreting jokes: when a speaker tells a joke in a formal context (for example, when delivering a business presentation or teaching a class), it is usually enough to say "the speaker has just told an untranslatable joke, please laugh or they'll fire us interpreters". The audience doesn't usually expect this comment in a formal setting, so they actually laugh! 🙃 It's a trick that usually works. Of course it doesn't apply to this situation unfortunately. I feel for the interpreters.

Interpreting is hard especially simultaneous interpretation. When I was studying French at Uni we had a talk by an interpreter and one of her anecdotes was about an international religious conference. There was a German priest who told a joke. She didn’t speak German so was listening to the French interpreter and using that to translate into English. There is already a slight delay when interpreting anyway and so by the time the English priests got the translation there was even more of a delay and when they were laughing at the joke the German priest had moved on and was saying “let us pray” Oops 🤪

Yes, that is called relay interpretation, and it can be tricky sometimes because you, as an interpreter, are not receiving the message directly from the actual speaker but through another interpreter and this obviously creates a longer décalage/lag. One of many occupational hazards that occur in this beautiful but stressful profession.

As an ENGSP interpreter I feel so sorry for this colleague. Poor guy! The whole point of the joke was completely missed. I couldn’t agree more with you when you said that translating jokes is one of the most difficult tasks for us because jokes are closely related to culture. Let alone translating a joke live! I wouldn’t have liked to be in his place. 🤦🏻♀️

Besides, G.I. Jane was a big deal when it was released in the US (Demi's paycheck, her cutting her hair, the fact that it bombed...), BUT barely rigistered in France. And people not knowing about Jada's conditions understood the joke even less.

Actually, he was right to "generalise" at this moment because it's not the interpretation that doesn't make sense, it's the actual scene, so interpreting this kind of thing live is nearly impossible in terms of translating every word or meaning. Generalising is one technique or strategy that you learn to master in a master's degree in interpreting.

Man, I got a good laugh out of this. This is golden material right here. As a beginner when it comes to learning other languages I sometimes watch foreign news or conferences, some of which have live interpretations, and I've always noticed how chat rooms tend to give them harsh criticism when they're obviously struggling to keep up with the information they receive. Interpreters are pretty much the unsung heroes when it comes to events like these so it's nice to see them getting a shout-out. As horrible as this whole incident was it's turning out to be a gift that keeps on giving lol

Interpreters have a tough job. Doing it on live tv where anything can happen has to be stressful and this situation highlights how it’s not an easy job. Having to translate it in the first place would require some research, doing it all in real time would be a task for sure. You absolutely demonstrated the difficulty in this video. Kudos to the interpreter who did the best he could. I could never do it, I’ll stick to translating written text, thank you.

Quand t'as ni la ref du film, ni l'info sur la maladie de la dame, que tu sais pas pourquoi W. Smith a ri au début puis s'est levé, que c'est un couple d'union libre, et que la première fois que tu vois la news c'est en VF.... => confusion totale. Ce n'est pas juste un problème de traduction, même avec la VO, sans le contexte, c'était incompréhensible.

@ Jada Pinkett-Smith a révélé souffrir d'alopécie et depuis peu, elle ne le cache plus et se montre avec le crâne rasé. Chris Rock lui dit donc qu'elle est prête pour la suite de À Armes égales, film dans lequel Demi Moore joue une femme militaire au crâne rasé. Will Smith au début rit de la blague puis voit que Jada ne rit pas du tout, se lève et met une claque à Chris Rock.

Merci pour l'explication j'avais rien compris non plus. Et si on a besoin du contexte, parce que je ne connais pas la tête de sa femme donc je ne savais même pas qu'elle était là, et je ne connaissait pas non plus le film, donc tilter que c'est la femme avec le crâne rasé c'était un peu difficile. Bref, c'était une mauvaise vanne car elle fait souffrir la cible, mais est-ce que ça méritait d'aller jusqu'à la claque ? Je pense qu'il l'a frappé pour s'excuser auprès de sa femme d'avoir rigolé. Il aurait juste pu lui dire depuis sa place de ne pas dire ce genre de chose.

To be fair, I understand English perfectly, and saw the uncensored English version (which Americans didn't get apparently), and I still didn't get it all; I had to google the explanation. Je ne m'attendais pas à cette "correction de traduction". Tu as raison, ce métier est difficile quand on le fait en direct. De ce fait, il y a des choses qui sont "mal" traduites ou pas du tout. Et merci de cette vidéo pour expliquer à ceux qui n'ont pas toutes les références ou un niveau d'anglais suffisant. Mais je pensais que tu allais dire qu'il existe des différences de comportement, qu'on soit en France/Europe ou aux US. Il me semble, mais je peux me tromper, qu'on a + tendance à se bastonner de l'autre coté de l'Atlantique. Je ne dis pas que c'est mieux ou moins bien. Mais que c'est dans la "culture". C'est quand même ce qu'on nous montre dans les oeuvres de fiction, et pas que... Je crois qu'on a moins tendance à en venir aux mains au pays de Molière. Mais je peux me tromper. Quoi qu'il en soit, encore merci d'avoir pris le temps de nous éclairer sur ce moment un peu troublant.

Je pense que c'est l'inverse en fait. Aux States tout a tendance a être aseptisé et sous contrôle. Les gros mots sont systématiquement bippés, ce qui est un paradoxe total avec le langage fleuri et les tenues de certains. Mais globalement, il faut filer droit. Les US sont un pays d'extrêmes mais une majorité de la population est très croyante et beaucoup de choses ne passeraient pas. Ça me rappelle l'interview de Whitney Houston sur un plateau où il y avait Gainsbourg. Son comportement envers elle a fait l'objet d'un véritable scandale et elle n'est pas revenue en France avant longtemps.

Merci pour cette vidéo. Je n'avais vu que le debrief dans une autre émission (dans C'est à vous ?) où la blague avait eu le temps d'être expliquée. Mais à froid, c'est toujours plus facile. En contexte, sans les références, comme il a été dit dans un autre commentaire, la meilleure réponse aurait peut-être été de balayer en touche. Mais peut-être que l'interprète était aussi fatigué et en mode semi-automatique et qu'il a réalisé trop tard ce qui se passait.

L’interprétariat, c’est pas un sacerdoce, mais du travail et de l’exercice tous les jours. Soit on a les nerfs solides, soit on ne les a pas. J’ai essayé, avec toute la bonne volonté du monde. Quand je me suis trouvée a devoir faire de la simultanée sur un documentaire Luce (les documentaires de l’époque de Mussolini pour célébrer sa grandeur) vers l’allemand, j’ai compris que ce n’était vraiment pas possible pour moi. Agreed. Rock's joke was bad (low-effort, punching down, and just not funny), but Smith had SO many better ways to handle it. He had enough pull with the Academy to make sure that Rock never worked the Oscars again (though, probably not now -- I could well see him being effectively blackballed going forward). He has enough pull in Hollywood to make sure that Rocks has trouble getting film work going forward. okay so let's calculate; assumptions: the velocity of Will's hand is constant & it's trajectory is going in a straight line, this will make things a bit easier while remaining certainly accurate. W = KE = Fd = ½mv²→F=(½mv²)/d; doing research I found that will weights 91 Kg approximately the mass of the arm is a 5.7% of the total corporal mass. m = 91 • 0.057 = 5.187 Kg measuring his body and then doing a some calculations with his real height and measured height on my screen I could find how much his hand traveled, it was 0.7 meters approx the video of the Oscars was filmed at 30 fps and the slap lasted 6 frames or 0.2 seconds, v=0.7m/0.2s= 3.5m/s kinetic energy = ½•5.187•3.5²= 31.77J now we have to calculate the distance of impact. We know that the hand went at 3.5 m/s and it was in contact with Chris face for 1 frame or 0.0333... seconds so x= 3.5•0.033...= 0.1166... meters with the kinetic energy and the distance of impact we calculate the force F= 31,77J/0.116... m = 272.31N that's 27.768≈ Kg of force or 60 lbs, I think he held back a bit xd

Pour revenir sur l'exemple de l'émission de Gordon Ramsay : je suis traductrice spécialisée en audiovisuel et je travaille entre autres sur ce genre d'émissions. Le truc de la voix française par-dessus la VO, ça s'appelle tout simplement de la voice-over ! En général, les chaînes de télé demandent à ce que les mots vulgaires soient édulcorés et certains sont même carrément interdits. D'où le fait que ça semble souvent sous-traduit alors qu'on entend des gros WTF en fond sonore :)

Love the analysis! One thing to note, though -- even though Smith's slap was for audible effect (you can see him lean back as he's swinging, pulling power out of the swing, and he keeps his wrist and hand loose, so it makes a loud "smack" noise), a slap like that can be very, very effective in hurting someone (moreso than a punch, in many cases -- you're less likely to break your hand with a palm-heel strike than you are with a punch, so you can repeat as needed). Had Smith leaned into the swing, cranked his hips and shoulder over (think throwing a right hook in boxing), and kept his hand and wrist rigid as he hit Rock (ie, put energy into the swing), it could well have caused a broken jaw or nose, a concussion, or whiplash, exactly as if he'd punched him. It was battery, plain and simple, and I'm shocked that the Academy didn't kick him out of the ceremony for it, regardless of his status as a nominee (in fact, him not being able to physically accept his award would have been very telling). I also think that Rock did a disservice to the public by not insisting that he be led out in handcuffs by one of the many LAPD officers at the event then and there. TL;DR: Smith slapped like a 5-year-old, but slapping someone can hurt them if you do it right.

Chris Rock is a bully, he should've been removed right then and there. Also, you keep on saying "if, if, if", well, "avec des si on mettrait Paris en bouteille". Will Smith having done many an action movie probably knows how to hit someone without causing damage.

He pulled the slap, making it for more stage effect rather than to harm Rock -- but up until a split second before it landed, nobody knew what he was doing, and he could have just as easily hit Rock full-force and dislocated or broken his jaw (looks like the point of contact was around Rock's left temporomandibular joint, which is a weak point in the jaw) -- that's the reason what he did is a crime (there's no requirement for injury under California's battery statute, only the use of force/violence on the person of another).

@@tthaas I agree. He pulled it so much I thought it was a stage slap as his left hand was near his own thigh. Stage slap is where contact is minimal to avoid injury but it sounds convincing because the other hand slaps your own leg for the sound. Rock also rolled with it as it happened, which is what the recipient is supposed to do to lessen the blow. The following flowery tirade struck me as overdone too. I also didn't know beforehand that Jada had been in a remake of GI Jane or that she has alopecia. Badly done joke from any angle.

In GI Jane, the character joins the navy seals and isn’t taken very seriously, so she shaves her head to make herself less feminine and fit in. wills wife has alopecia so shaved her head, Chris rock was making fun of her shaved head saying she was making a second GI Jane film

Chris faisait référence à la coupe de cheveux de Jada, qu'elle a dû obtenir à cause de son alopécie. Il a dit "J'ai hâte de te voir dans G.I. Jeanne!" (À Armes Égales en français). C'était une légère blague aux dépens de Jada et Will n'aimait évidemment pas ça. Désolé si tout cela semble cassé, je ne parle pas français, j'ai donc utilisé Google Translate

Dans le film "À armes égales", Demi Moore se rase la tête. Jada Pinkett Smith, la femme de Will Smith donc, est atteinte d'alopécie (une maladie auto-immune qui cause la perte des cheveux). Elle perd tellement de cheveux qu'elle a décidé de les raser depuis l'année dernière. La blague de Chris Rock, c'était "Jada, je t'adore. J'ai hâte de te voir dans la suite de “À armes égales” !"... En gros, il a fait une blague sur le fait qu'elle ait le crâne rasé. Quand on regarde les images, on voit que Will Smith a ri à la blague mais pas Jada... C'est après qu'il s'est levé pour le gifler. Voilà pour le contexte !

Hi! Bonjour! I am a French English interpreter. I just wanted to defend my poor colleagues "dubbing" during live events. When you interpret, you have to be careful with harsh language and insults: you can either tone them down a bit, because with body language and the original sound on people realise what's actually going on and there's no need to increase the tension, or say the words as they come if it's really needed (if a witness is testifying to court for instance). Furthermore, it is extremely difficult to translate jokes, especially if you haven't received the documents before the event. And I want to make a point here: we're not actually dubbing actors, hence the tone of his voice. We may play with our tone to pass on nuances and meaning, but we're not actors or comedians (even if some interpreters can actually do this, most of us won't). If you have never heard the title of this specific film before, you may have trouble catching it while you're talking and try to do your best without it. Usually, interpreters work in shifts: there's one interpreter translating for 30 minutes while the other one rests and can help jotting down notes (figures, titles, names...) or doing a quick internet research for the other. Maybe the boothmate had to go to the bathroom at that time and couldn't help... Our job is extremely difficult and requires several skills, focus and stress management. This interpreter did the best he could in this context. It was not perfect, but we all experience failures once in a while 😅

Oh this is interesting, I had no idea foreign language translators switch out every 30 minutes too! I’ve done some ASL (American Sign Language) interpreting live like that for 30 minute shifts swapping with partner but they told its to be done that way because of carpal tunnel syndrome risk from signing so much and so fast in live events/jobs as the reason. It’s interesting that it’s done this way too for non-sign language foreign translation too!

Exactly, facts are facts, and Paul actually misrepresents how Chris Rock's words were translated. And then makes fun of how the interpreter supposedly keeps getting it wrong. And then gives his name. That's taking it too far.
About interpreting jokes: when a speaker tells a joke in a formal context (for example, when delivering a business presentation or teaching a class), it is usually enough to say "the speaker has just told an untranslatable joke, please laugh or they'll fire us interpreters". The audience doesn't usually expect this comment in a formal setting, so they actually laugh! 🙃 It's a trick that usually works. Of course it doesn't apply to this situation unfortunately. I feel for the interpreters.

Interpreting is hard especially simultaneous interpretation. When I was studying French at Uni we had a talk by an interpreter and one of her anecdotes was about an international religious conference. There was a German priest who told a joke. She didn’t speak German so was listening to the French interpreter and using that to translate into English. There is already a slight delay when interpreting anyway and so by the time the English priests got the translation there was even more of a delay and when they were laughing at the joke the German priest had moved on and was saying “let us pray” Oops 🤪
So please ask this gentleman to remove this insulting video !

Yes, that is called relay interpretation, and it can be tricky sometimes because you, as an interpreter, are not receiving the message directly from the actual speaker but through another interpreter and this obviously creates a longer décalage/lag. One of many occupational hazards that occur in this beautiful but stressful profession.

As an ENGSP interpreter I feel so sorry for this colleague. Poor guy! The whole point of the joke was completely missed. I couldn’t agree more with you when you said that translating jokes is one of the most difficult tasks for us because jokes are closely related to culture. Let alone translating a joke live! Actually, he was right to "generalise" at this moment because it's not the interpretation that doesn't make sense, it's the actual scene, so interpreting this kind of thing live is nearly impossible in terms of translating every word or meaning. Generalising is one technique or strategy that you learn to master in a master's degree in interpreting.

Man, I got a good laugh out of this. This is golden material right here. As a beginner when it comes to learning other languages I sometimes watch foreign news or conferences, some of which have live interpretations, and I've always noticed how chat rooms tend to give them harsh criticism when they're obviously struggling to keep up with the information they receive. Interpreters are pretty much the unsung heroes when it comes to events like these so it's nice to see them getting a shout-out. As horrible as this whole incident was it's turning out to be a gift that keeps on giving lol

Interpreters have a tough job. Doing it on live tv where anything can happen has to be stressful and this situation highlights how it’s not an easy job. Having to translate it in the first place would require some research, doing it all in real time would be a task for sure. You absolutely demonstrated the difficulty in this video. Kudos to the interpreter who did the best he could. I could never do it, I’ll stick to translating written text, thank you.

Smith a ri au début puis s'est levé, que c'est un couple d'union libre, et que la première fois que tu vois la news c'est en VF.... => confusion totale. Ce n'est pas juste un problème de traduction, même avec la VO, sans le contexte, c'était incompréhensible.

Je ne m'attendais pas à cette "correction de traduction". Tu as raison, ce métier est difficile quand on le fait en direct. De ce fait, il y a des choses qui sont "mal" traduites ou pas du tout. Et merci de cette vidéo pour expliquer à ceux qui n'ont pas toutes les références ou un niveau d'anglais suffisant. Mais je pensais que tu allais dire qu'il existe des différences de comportement, qu'on soit en France/Europe ou aux US. Il me semble, mais je peux me tromper, qu'on a + tendance à se bastonner de l'autre coté de l'Atlantique. Je ne dis pas que c'est mieux ou moins bien. Mais que c'est dans la "culture". C'est quand même ce qu'on nous montre dans les oeuvres de fiction, et pas que... Je crois qu'on a moins tendance à en venir aux mains au pays de Molière. Mais je peux me tromper. Quoi qu'il en soit, encore merci d'avoir pris le temps de nous éclairer sur ce moment un peu troublant.
Je pense que c'est l'inverse en fait. Aux States tout a tendance a être aseptisé et sous contrôle. Les gros mots sont systématiquement bippés, ce qui est un paradoxe total avec le langage fleuri et les tenues de certains. Mais globalement, il faut filer droit. Les US sont un pays d'extrêmes mais une majorité de la population est très croyante et beaucoup de choses ne passeraient pas. Ça me rappelle l'interview de Whitney Houston sur un plateau où il y avait Gainsbourg. Son comportement envers elle a fait l'objet d'un véritable scandale et elle n'est pas revenue en France avant longtemps.

Agreed. Rock's joke was bad (low-effort, punching down, and just not funny), but Smith had SO many better ways to handle it. He had enough pull with the Academy to make sure that Rock never worked the Oscars again (though, probably not now -- I could well see him being effectively blackballed going forward). He has enough pull in Hollywood to make sure that Rocks has trouble getting film work going forward. He also had the pulpit to respond to the joke (not that he knew he was winning Best Actor, but he could have the ear of every member of the press that was on the red carpet after the event with a single text to his agent). He chose poorly.

W = KE = Fd = ½mv²→F=(½mv²)/d; doing research I found that will weights 91 Kg approximately the mass of the arm is a 5.7% of the total corporal mass. m = 91 • 0.057 = 5.187 Kg measuring his body and then doing a some calculations with his real height and measured height on my screen I could find how much his hand traveled, it was 0.7 meters approx the video of the Oscars was filmed at 30 fps and the slap lasted 6 frames or 0.2 seconds, v=0.7m/0.2s= 3.5m/s kinetic energy = ½•5.187•3.5²= 31.77J now we have to calculate the distance of impact. We know that the hand went at 3.5 m/s and it was in contact with Chris face for 1 frame or 0.0333... seconds so x= 3.5•0.033...= 0.1166... meters with the kinetic energy and the distance of impact we calculate the force F= 31,77J/0.116... m = 272.31N that's 27.768≈ Kg of force or 60 lbs, I think he held back a bit xd

Pour revenir sur l'exemple de l'émission de Gordon Ramsay : je suis traductrice spécialisée en audiovisuel et je travaille entre autres sur ce genre d'émissions. Le truc de la voix française par-dessus la VO, ça s'appelle tout simplement de la voice-over ! En général, les chaînes de télé demandent à ce que les mots vulgaires soient édulcorés et certains sont même carrément interdits. D'où le fait que ça semble souvent sous-traduit alors qu'on entend des gros WTF en fond sonore :)

Love the analysis! One thing to note, though -- even though Smith's slap was for audible effect (you can see him lean back as he's swinging, pulling power out of the swing, and he keeps his wrist and hand loose, so it makes a loud "smack" noise), a slap like that can be very, very effective in hurting someone (moreso than a punch, in many cases -- you're less likely to break your hand with a palm-heel strike than you are with a punch, so you can repeat as needed). Had Smith leaned into the swing, cranked his hips and shoulder over (think throwing a right hook in boxing), and kept his hand and wrist rigid as he hit Rock (ie, put energy into the swing), it could well have caused a broken jaw or nose, a concussion, or whiplash, exactly as if he'd punched him. It was battery, plain and simple, and I'm shocked that the Academy didn't kick him out of the ceremony for it, regardless of his status as a nominee (in fact, him not being able to physically accept his award would have been very telling). I also think that Rock did a disservice to the public by not insisting that he be led out in handcuffs by one of the many LAPD officers at the event then and there. TL;DR: Smith slapped like a 5-year-old, but slapping someone can hurt them if you do it right.
Chris Rock is a bully, he should've been removed right then and there. Also, you keep on saying "if, if, if", well, "avec des si on mettrait Paris en bouteille". Will Smith having done many an action movie probably knows how to hit someone without causing damage.

He pulled the slap, making it for more stage effect rather than to harm Rock -- but up until a split second before it landed, nobody knew what he was doing, and he could have just as easily hit Rock full-force and dislocated or broken his jaw (looks like the point of contact was around Rock's left temporomandibular joint, which is a weak point in the jaw) -- that's the reason what he did is a crime (there's no requirement for injury under California's battery statute, only the use of force/violence on the person of another).

Stage slap is where contact is minimal to avoid injury but it sounds convincing because the other hand slaps your own leg for the sound. Rock also rolled with it as it happened, which is what the recipient is supposed to do to lessen the blow. The following flowery tirade struck me as overdone too. I also didn't know beforehand that Jada had been in a remake of GI Jane or that she has alopecia. Badly done joke from any angle.

Chris faisait référence à la coupe de cheveux de Jada, qu'elle a dû obtenir à cause de son alopécie. Il a dit "J'ai hâte de te voir dans G.I. Jeanne!" (À Armes Égales en français). C'était une légère blague aux dépens de Jada et Will n'aimait évidemment pas ça. Désolé si tout cela semble cassé, je ne parle pas français, j'ai donc utilisé Google Translate
l'héroine du film GI Jane est chauve c'est pour ça qu'il la compare à Jada. Mais comme Jada est chauve à cause d'une maladie c'est pas passé auprès de Will Smith

Dans le film "À armes égales", Demi Moore se rase la tête. Jada Pinkett Smith, la femme de Will Smith donc, est atteinte d'alopécie (une maladie auto-immune qui cause la perte des cheveux). Elle perd tellement de cheveux qu'elle a décidé de les raser depuis l'année dernière. La blague de Chris Rock, c'était "Jada, je t'adore. J'ai hâte de te voir dans la suite de “À armes égales” !"... En gros, il a fait une blague sur le fait qu'elle ait le crâne rasé. Quand on regarde les images, on voit que Will Smith a ri à la blague mais pas Jada... C'est après qu'il s'est levé pour le gifler. Voilà pour le contexte !
Il aurait fallu un traducteur qui soit cinéphile, qui connaisse un peu la filmographie des acteurs/actrices. Moi j’ai tout de suite compris la blague sans avoir à écouter les commentateurs français.
