The Wout van Aert CLINIC | Gent-Wevelgem 2021

Gent-Wevelgem 2021 returned with one of the longest races of the season, over 250km done on a course with constant strong crosswinds, cobbled climbs, gravel narrow paths and a long flat run to the finish in Wevelgem. One of my favourite classics, we were in for a treat with Wout van Aert, a stacked quickstep team and many cobbled specialists lining up at the startline.

    • So Yves Lampaert got that question and he answered: They tried to pull echelons with quickstep, before that split happened, on a section that was ideal for it, but the whole peloton was paying attention and it didn't happen. So he thought it wasn't gonna happen anymore and they dropped back a bit. But on an other section they tried again and there was a bit of a fall or holdup and the 20 man group was gone after that.

I just think it would have been crazy if there was a rider to his left shit would have got real quick.:) He would have looked like he had done a rainy roubaix or strade. Truth i think it was a shake cause i guzzle meal replacement shakes standing up and have almost puked. I actually said there should be play list like dumoulin taking 2 before stelvio and winning jersey, bennet, hoogerland after crashing in barbwire, guy in tour after running into random fans camper to use toilet. Its insane dedication jokes aside. Laughs still to be had sam has been laughing at sprinters all year he has exorcism on bike I can laugh and respect it at same time!!!!

  • A little back story, pour la petite histoire as we say here in Belgium: The last weeks a lot has been written and said in the media about Jumbo-Visma not being strong enough to support Wout Van Aert. Nathan Van Hooydocnk really didn't like that and replied somewhat irritated in the pre-race interview. Really adds to the race-story to see how masterful he was in this Gent-Wevelgem, to prove the haters wrong with actions. He was really a one man team for Wout yesterday. And of course he got all the praise in the world in the Sporza studio afterwards.
