Honestly I think Kostyuk has a lot to work on in her mental game. She struggles to close her leads against Coco and keeps letting her back in.

Martita is getting into beast mode little by little. My favorite upcoming player for a while. Leylah and Raducanu leapfrogged her , but she has been steady and she is the best of her bunch outside Iga. Vondrusova will have her hands full. Would not be surprises if Marta makes the SF at Roland Garros or the US Open this year.

A magnificent performance by Marta Kostyuk 🇺🇦 ! A seriously brilliant victory - coming from a set down (as all brilliant victories are) and gradually fighting her way back, and then overpowering Gauff in a spectacular final set. Her winning that deciding tie-breaker was the highlight of the tournament so far. I notice that few people on here are willing to give a lot of credit to Marta Kostyuk 🇺🇦 (obviously a lot of Gauff fans) and acknowledge just how good she is.

Marta is one of the most talented girls in tennis (top 5 for sure) and had been a phenom for a long time. Her mentality has been lagging far behind her skill but wins like the Zheng & Gauff match are huge for her confidence. I said a few months she seems like she's turning a corner regarding confidence & maturity and I expect her to finish in the top 8 in the WTA race this season.
What are you talking about? Gauff was clearly the fighter who kept the match going. She actually fought from 5 match points.
@@johnnythunder196 You cant say someone is a top 5 player if they have never been in the top 5. Mental strength is what separates the top 10 players from everyone else. She is also almost 2,000 points behind being number 8.

Kostyuk saved 5 match points yesterday, these Gauff v Kostyuk matches are dramatic but full of errors and double-faults really poor at times.

I watched her matches live vs. Laura Siegesmund, Zheng yesterday at the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart saving 5 matchpoints to advance to the quaterfinals. Today she defeated Coco Gauff with the 8th matchpoint. Incredible performance👍👏 Hope she advances to the final

There is no point in pretending, Cori has been out of shape for some time... the problem with her forehand and serve is still not solved, but there is still half a year until the USO... Credits to Martha - she won two matches that were already practically lost, what a warrior...

@@AC-ss5oy f you regularly lose matches against players like Sinakova, it's not a sign of good form... Cori is building muscles, ok, but that's not the reason for her losses, she is still fast as panther... problem is in the unreliable serve and forehand

@@axelltullup2638 also siniakova has only played coco twice and although she doesnt have great results in singles, she is a 6 time doubles grand slam champion with singles wins over coco, sabalenka, sakkari and rybakina. she's more of a dark horse than anything. you seem to be suggesting that she's some weak player and she's not.

I think she'd have a good chance if she didnt play about 9 hours of tennis in three days. She must be running on fumes at this point. I can see her gutting out a semi final win but the final vs Swiatek (I'm assuming she makes it) will be brutal for a tired player. Swiatek has been nearly unstoppable at this tournament the past few years.

Coco had so many chances today and couldn't convert. Marta deserved this win today. Marta if you can handle your emotions better. Coco, serve needs intense work and improvement, its costing way too many wins. Wells done Marta.

Congratulations Marta. Keep it up. She played great especially during key moments. She was very calm and collected. She always believed in her abilities and never gave up. She fought for every point and deservedly won this match. What a warrior she is. I wish her luck in the Semi-final against Vondrousova.
As a fan of Coco, of course it hurts to see her lose. It seems to me that her biggest problem is her mind. You see her struggle to serve out matches. Like today when she was leading 6 - 5 in the 3rd set. She couldn't serve it out! She has had many matches like this where she is trying to serve it out and then she get's broken and loses, for example against Potapova in Miami in 2023. You also see when she plays doubles, she seems very relaxed, with more smiling, laughter and chattiness. It is very hard to see her smile in singles. Unless for example when she falls (she still has to learn to drop the racket on her falls!), in which case it is nervousness due to embarrassment but that's a story for another day! In doubles, she makes less double faults. Her forehand works better. She remembers to come to the net a lot more (of course doubles you have to :-)). She redirects balls way better! Of course if Coco was my charge and she wasn't world no.3, I would tell her to do stuff that could help to steady her mind. For example become more vocal, grunt, shout, anything, whatever could help! Using the crowd too - I see a lot of players tell the crowd to cheer them whenever they score good points. Another is to learn to be more vocal in celebrating her winning points. Breathing is another. If she would also try to plan her moves 3 or more steps ahead (like in Chess!!) - for example saying, "If she serves this way, I am going to return this way and she is likely to return this way, in which case I would hit it this way" .. something like that to keep the mind occupied and in alert mode.
Really great points here. I think she needs a new coaching team and I believe if she can work on her serve 100%, she will be unbeatable.

I love how Marta is not afraid to go for her shots, change directions etc. I really wish Coco would do the same. It still seems that her confidence is not there, second guessing everything. It’s crazy.

Coco’s game is soooo painfully inconsistent. At this point, the only thing keeping her in the top 5 is her back hand and speed. It hard to watch now as a fan
She's willing to work on improving shots, which means things will look ugly for a while before they get better. That she listens to coaches and is willing to put in the work without getting negative, is a good thing. She's not firing people after every set back.
her cakewalk draws are the only thing keeping her in the top 5...a lot of her points will come off the board late summer when she has to defend DC, Cincy, USO

She would not even be in the top five if the WTA wouldn't have not done that to her opponents making them play late at night..at USO not getting to bed 2 and 3 in morning ... then play rested Coco early the next morning
It’s true she gets easy draws but sometimes her projected seeded opponents just lose early and she doesn’t need to face a top 20 players until a SF sometimes. We need more consistency by the top 10-15 players. Coco has mastered the winning ugly by now, actually shocked she lost today. Glad that Marta pulled through.

Most consistent: Swiatek and Rybakina (if not ill), Rising: Kostyuk, Vondrousova, Falling: Gauff (she's happy to have the Australian open getting such a high amount of points), Swaying: Sabalenka (but more or less falling than rising) If you cut out the results from Australian Open Coco Gauff would be #14 Aryna Sabalenka would be #28 Zheng Qinwen would fall from #6 to below #30 The whole Womans setlist at tournaments right now is (after the first 3-5 Position) some kind of wheel of fortune.

This one will definitely hurt! Coco is going through a time where she is doubting herself and her ability and it’s affecting her serve and some of her shot selections. Marta has incredible fight but there’s no way she should have won this match against Coco. Hopefully we start to see a more confident and solid Coco soon. She’s my favorite 💜
