    • I think deep down he was really hurting but he won over everybody (as did RN) with his comments post match. The two best players played off,...it was worth staying up till 1 am and I am not a huge tennis fan by any means.

    • There were some of his supporters in the stand. He was not mature enough to face the public. Fighting with the crowd is the worst strategy. He will lose more mental energy.

    • He could have thanked people who supported him, that could have been better. Nothing personal he should take, each person has their favourite for their reasons. But he could have stood with his supporters as well. Overall he is very good and will go heights .

    • I'm almost 100% sure he will go down as one of, if not the most loved tennis player of all time when his career ends ... just from his protest of the crowd being against him show how pure and adolescent his heart is, its actually very touching to see a grown man ache so honestly from getting hurt by the crowd .. and he still shows such admiration for Nadal despite feeling hurt emotionally by the audience ... his show of emotions really is an endearing quality which is the very thing I think everyone will come to like and love him for ...

  • Daniil has a sense of humor, no crying, accept defeat w/ gracefulness. He has the skill and mental toughness to be champion for more year to come. Today, he let one slip away. It was similar to the 2021 French Open final where Stefanos lost in 5 to Novak after leading 2 sets to 0.

    • I know that crowd wasn't supportive of Medvedev.. but when you are playing against one of the 3 goats.. they will always cheer for them... so he should have been prepared for that scenario that not only I'm playing against Rafa but crowd also... we have seen how Djokovic come over this kind of pressure.. if he wants to win these matches he just have to pretend that they don't matter and stay focused throughout the match.. and honestly in first two sets they were not booing him too much.. it was after the sarcastic hand gesture he did... if you try to silence the crowd they would make more noise that's how it always have been... he should have played according to his strength rest of the sets.. tried too many things like coming towards the net and lost most of the points because Rafa is definitely better at net play and Medvedev not his best... he let the match slip away by losing his cool and not playing to his strength

    • @@vipin395 it wasn't really the fact they were cheering for Rafa. It was that a lot of them were booing and shouting in between his first and second serves. Super disrespectful and similar to how he was treated by the US Open crowd in the final against Nole. They should have stronger measures against those clowns.

    • Rowdy crowd. Rafa fought back & Medy tried his best. At the end of the match there can only be one winner. Medy is young, he will win many slams for sure. I wish the crowd stops booing the players.

  • I love that he specifically, purposefully DID NOT thank the crowd, nor mention returning to Australia in the future. “Try to be better next time” is as close as he got. Last but not least (usually the crowd), but he thanked his team again.

    • It's not that the crowd didn't support him..he should realise that the crowd there are people who spent their money to support their favourite player and not be an unbiased audience A lot of people supporting Medvedev weren't there but watching from their homes in Russia and even non Russians If he wants crowd support then he should buy tickets for his supporters so that there are enough of them to not be partisan

  • What is really impressive is the level of tennis both of the players showed in this game. Medvedev is amazing and he would have won any player, even djokovic. But Rafa knew what he was coming for, to make history. He played his best ever. An example for everyone.

    • Yeah, When Daniil is at his best and then play Djokovic, that would be awesome. With Novak not at the Australian Open other players were allowed to shine. One always thinks if players like Novak can not be there the Tennis matches will not be as nice. But heck no, the tennis matches were of such a high quality and so intense. That is what every Tennis fan just loves to see. Amazing talent, amazing tenacity, just wow.

    • @@Kubballin I love Stan. He did great. He was down and out with all the injuries, was 28-29. Started taking Tennis seriously and within 3-4 years turned it all around and won 3 GS. 3 finals and 3 GS wins. Defeated Novak in 4 sets in 2 of them and Nadal at AO in 4 sets. Respecttt.

    • 10 is a lot especially given that as of now his playing style pretty much rules him out of winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon. If I were a betting man I would put him at 4-8 and all of them on hard courts.

    • Everybody has this disadvantage at some point. Fed had it with Sampras, Nadal with Fed, Djoker with everyone. You have to win the crowd over. Medvedev will not win over the crowd with his approach to the game (insulting everyone), maybe in his later years, but he will win a lot of grand slams because he is just too good. I see him doing the calendar slam.

    • I watched the whole thing too, and I thought it became far more noticeable after his little episode with the ball kids, and a couple instances where he responded antagonisingly. Australian crowds obviously love Nadal, and rightly so, but I agree it's sad that some can't draw the line between support and heckling. Just wish the umpire threated to remove those shouting between serves earlier, because it kinda worked.

  • I am sure Meddy will be in more AO finals. Hopefully the crowd will be nicer to him. I remember how overwhelmed Novak was at the US Open last year because the crowd there finally supported him. I think that helped ease the pain of losing and not making history a little more easier.

  • I always root for Medvedev but this final it was tough for me as two of my favourite guys were fighting together. Very sad for Meddy, hope he doesn't loose his heart too much and again come back stronger. He should remember the state of Rafa when he lost AO2012 and afterwards how he dominates 2013

Medvedev clearly choked at so many moments against a Nadal that was not at all at the peak of his form. Is it entertaining ? Yes. Is it among the "greatest" matches ? Not at all.

  • I've been a Nadal fan since he signed a tennis racket for my kid 15 years ago at the US Open. But I really like Medvedev as well. Seems like a good guy with some personality and a ton of talent. If he keeps showing his sense of humor as he did in this speech, fans will eventually embrace him.

    • I would ask: why in the heck would fans not respect him now? When a person shows good qualities, you know? Or does it bother the crowd if an athlete is not afraid to show anger against referees? Do they see that as a slight to their nationality? Novak often had intense moments of anger too and that did hurt him.
