When you realize that Sif's reason for defending Artorias' ring was because of how Artorias ended up. She didn't want that to happen to anyone else. That's the most sad thing about the entire game.
It's even sadder when you realize Ciaran was there too, why do you think you pick up the Hornet ring behind his grave.

I think he did, even if you saved him and he knew the Chosen Undead was a noble warrior he would still attack you for the ring you needed to finish his master's quest for no reason even though he probably knew you needed to and his master would want that too, and if you didn't save him he would attack you and he wouldn't let you escape from where you came from neither.
@Masterwar15 Actually he really did nothing wrong. He keeps attacking you even if you trigger the rememberance cutscene because he doesn't want you to go the same path as Artorias. He's preparing you and testing your skills to see if you're truly capable of succeeding where Artorias didn't. He'd rather kill you than see you get consumed by Abyss the same way as Artorias was. On the other hand if you're strong enough to beat him, Sif will finally be back with his master and will be proven that the chosen Undead will be able to move on.
And since when can the Chosen Undead read minds? Sif was nothing compared to Artorias, and since saving him means you already surpassed an empowered up version of his master (yes, corrupted Artorias is stronger than the original, the Abyss boosts everyone just like the rest of the citizens of Oolacile became powerful monsters, though mindless, Artorias becomes way stronger the longer he fights), plus he also helps you with Manus, who you defeated alongside him, you have nothing to prove to him. He knows you are the real ''Abyss Walker'', in the end in any case he just wants you to just end his life. @@rundur4805
@@Masterwar15 Sif does want the chosen undead to take the same path as his former master. Sif much rather kill you, than to see you consumed by the abyss just like his former master. And you the player needed that ring, to finish what Artorias couldn't. Sif tries to stop you, but you don't or rather CAN'T stop. you NEED that ring. There's no other way to traverse the abyss without that ring. Sif does not want you to go to the Abyss, Sif does not want you to have the same fate as Artorias. You could say Sif was consumed by his own fear. His fear, clouded his judgement, deep down he know that the chosen Undead can do what Artorias couldn't. But Sif is just too scared, he does not want to see us consumed by the Abyss. But maybe deep down Sif also want you, the chosen undead, to end his life so he can meet his master. Maybe Sif wanted to die, and killed by you is the greatest honor. Not just that, he can be relieved that you're the one that defeated him, he know the ring is in the good hand. He can pass on peacefully knowing that the chosen undead will finish what his former master couldn't.
@@Masterwar15 I mean, you can't die... What's so bad about her killing you when you just come back? On the other hand, if you're consumed by the abyss, that's it, you're done. So actually, in this situation, Sif killing you is the better option from her perspective.

This is why i love Dark Souls. Not only are you learning the combat mechanics and getting better and better at the game, you're also discovering the amazing and well-thought lore that the developers created. It's crazy to watch this like 2 years later and remember what an amazing experience this whole game franchise has been.
It really feels like you were a part of the story, with parts such the ladies realisation of The Player saving her instead of Artorias. We have no real name, and yet it feels as if were remembered in Dark Souls legend.

@@xDantey It started off as one, way, way back. The references are mostly to things like famous paintings of surreal horror. That's not the same kind of story inspiration reference as you might find between Souls and Berserk.
Stop calling Dark Souls an RPG. It's not an RPG. It's an action Metroidvania. You have almost no meaningful choices to make the entire game.
Still pretty crazy how well DS1 does time travel here, with the way you do things allowing you to meet Sif before fighting him and how that changes the way the opening plays before the fight (heartbreaking stuff since he recognizes your smell, and yet realizes not only did he lose his first savior Artorias, but now must either kill or be killed by his second savior from the past) and how Dusk realizes who your character is by the balance in his aura being the same as her savior from the past, since it was in fact you who killed Manus in the past, and so on. Even the damn Cat knows you, knows that Artorias' legend is a lie - all of these things foreshadowed but still not revealed until someone puts the pieces together. It was the DS1 Chosen Undead that is the true legend of Artorias (imagine how pissed Gwyn would be to know that), and the true inspiration of the Abyss Walkers that must be defeated by the Ashen One in DS3. Love this shit.
Have to say, I hate time travel in movies ald shows, nowadays it has to be *everywhere*, but ds1 handles it sooopp good

It's not like anything he saw will affect gameplay in the slightest. Before playing Soulsborne, I had already watched Speedruns, and they didn't help at all.

@@DrnMontemayor Well the thing that sucks more is that he's already seen some gameplay of some of the bosses in Dark Souls 3. Don't you think one of the best things about the series is not knowing what the bosses will be like? I know there wasn't much of it, but it still wont be a completely unique experience when he sees Midir, Gundyr, the Abyss Watchers, etc.

@@THExRISER to save sif, you need to get the lordvessel and unlock the path to duke's archives to get the pendant, and to follow kaathe's path, you need to defeat sif to get the ring and defeat the four kings. (And by kaathe's path, i mean making things with him leading you, not just taking the dark lord ending)

Didn't expect to tear up god damn, the lore is actually pretty great i just wish it was conveyed a little more in game.
That's the best part about it, honestly. All of the information is in the game, but it's told in a way that makes you feel more like a historian traveling through a ruined world where all of the interesting stuff has already happened. It's up to you (And the rest of the community) to piece together information from item/armour descriptions and visuals in the environment to collectively come up with what the canon lore is. The developers never confirm or deny anything. I think it makes the story feel so much more interesting.
That's what makes it so beautiful and interesting though. This isn't a tale of legends told throughout the ages, it's a forgotten story, lost to time. A story of hollows who have all forgotten, even yourself. If the game told the story more overtly, then it wouldn't be the same story, and it wouldn't have the same impact. The subtlety of the story, and the hidden facets of it are what makes it so interesting.
Well, all of it is conveyed in the game, it's just in the cryptic words of other characters, item descriptions and visuals of the locations. Vaaty is just really good at pieceing it together.
Its like real history. We have a small bit of info that we piece together. You cant truly tell what is fact or fiction, because we dont truly know for sure. This is why I have invested thousands of hours and I'm so hyped to see asmond getting into the community. I just hope he can expand and resurrect the older games. He's the light to our dark.
Yeah the presentation of the story sucks, a big downside of their games including bloodborne lmao they could have had characters explain this stuff through the story or some nice exposition through a central narrator. They fucked up because they could still have all the extra cryptic lore that is found by those who look for it but also doesn't hurt the story.

I don’t think Bloodborne is a separate universe. Think about it, to see the unseen in Bloodborne you need insight, and in DS3 you fight (optional) Oceiros and he has a seemingly invisible child, Ocelotte. Though the unkindled can’t receive insight. I see DS3 as a Bloodborne prequel

The fact there will never be peace in the Dark Souls universe is the basis of the entire story of the games. At the end of the day you never fix anything, you only maintain a status quo.

Wait, is that a thing? I don't recall Sif sniffing you and howling before picking up the sword. Does that happen if you visit Oolacile first? I didn't know the Remastered version had the DLC's so i went through them quickly after finishing the game, i didn't spend time to explore much or talk to people. Damn that's some strong lore there. Although i still don't understand wtf is the abyss.
Yeah it changes after you save Sif in Oolacile don't remember if you have to summon him for Manus too also the current theory on the abyss is that its a corrupted version of the dark after Gywn fucked up the order of the world.

The Dark Souls series have deep, rich lore but you have to look for them and there are enough uncertainties that you can pretty much speculate about the lore and you might be correct about it.
Manus is a pygmy not the furtive pygmy who found the dark soul at the dawn of the first flame. The furtive pygmy is either dead or sealed in filianore's egg with the other pygmy lords and the most of the the dark soul

@@theonewhoismany8072 the descriptive language used when characters are talking about him, the connection with the abyss which echo's the corruption caused by the other lords, and Kaathe's involvement. there's nothing to suggest he's in filianore's egg. the pygmy lords aren't sealed in there either, at last not in the sense that I think you mean.

"appreciate and experience the game" - I believe you can argue that sentiment is most fulfilled in a BLIND playthrough though... !!!!! SPOILERS !!! Imagine watching a YT vid of the final boss of DS3s lore and how it's connected to Gwyn - if you've not started playing DS3 AND you haven't played DS1 that effectively ruins that experience fully - I'd imagine because I experienced it genuinely in "the correct" way - by having played DS1 and playing DS3 blindly - finally getting to the boss, realising it's mimicking player archetypes in its forms - to then FIND OUT that killing it reverts it to Gwyns form with full HP once again and the exact same music that Gwyn has starts playing in DS3. THAT, gave me chills and an unforgettable experience tied explicitly into HOW I played the game. I WANT others to get that experience as well - even though I fully understand it requires a lot of pre-requisites such as "brand"-investment in the series, appreciation for the lore and how it's told in-game etc. but these kinds of spoilers outright negates the wonder/exploration of the lore by having it read to you. imo these videos are supposed to be watched AFTER you've collected what lore you could find yourself - laid it out and tried to connect them by a red string and when you're at your wits end, look up what the community has theorised themselves. It's not the same as "optimal builds" information compiled by the community, where you just want the info and be done with it. figuring out the lore and scouring the game world for it IS the intended experience...

This is spoiler related but if you have completed the Ashes of Ariandel DLC for DS3 and finished the painting you can pick up subtle hints that Bloodborne is created in the painting. . . Pure speculation though. On a broader note. YEs this video was really well done and all the information can be obtained mostly from the items in the game, however; some will need to be theorycrafted.
