So as simple of a question as this is, it turns out to be a MAJOR POINT OF STUDY in Physics, Robotics, Space Satellite Control, Weapons Development, Biomedical Engineering, etc. It's stumped scientists and engineers since Newton's day. Here's something interesting. The cat isn't twisting his back.. he's actually BENDING it. The next video will go into great detail about what's going on there, and explain how it relates to studying the farthest points in the universe (Seriously... the fact that a cat can do this allows us to study the Universe.. no exaggeration).

If it was higher your cat probably wouldn't have been injured, cats get injured more from lower heights than higher heights
People assume cats are super animals that’ll never get hurt, but joint injuries and arthritis are all real dangers for cats too. They’re animals and will make mistakes as well. Hope your cat gets better!
@@etamm1343 Joint injuries still exist. It could've made a mistake in its panic too. Squirrels are probably the ones you think of cause they have really loose skin that can act as a parachute when they fall. Cats don't have the ability to reduce their terminal velocity.

The only thing more impressive with the reflex is how fast it happens. They flip over almost instantly.
But whenever the average person fall, they kinda freeze a bit. Resulting in a slower reflex
it's like they got free time before they even hit the ground lol
They do need a certain amount of space however. If you drop a cat from only a foot off the ground or something they can't make the rotation fast enough

For those claiming abuse, you have to know this: Cats are naturally skilled for this kind of stunts. They do more dangerous things in their daily life without human intervention. They are not naturally skilled for human dependency or for being dressed with tiny clothes because cuteness. Destin was playing safe in every moment and the cats were not harmed.

That is one well behaved cat. Mine would almost certainly try to bite me despite being fairly chill and easy going. He doesn't like people messing with his feet and isn't too big a fan of being picked up. I did have a cat I could have done this with, but she was 20lbs so it would have hurt her to be held by just her legs, and she died several years ago. I was able to wear hear like a scarf and use her as a dumbbell without any complaints.

You need a very calm cat. When I was a kid a kat we had voluntarely climbed into my hands so I'd throw him up in the air all the time. It was apparantly his favorite passtime.

You forgot to mention that this reflex only works down to a certain height, in addition, speed plays a key role to make this motion to kick in.
Cat can still do the reflex. The point is, will it survive or not. Cats have 90% chance of survival when they fall from a 5 stories building. About height. It's not the capability to do the reflex but it's about height. Their velocity will increase. The cat will die cuz the impact is too much. Which height is that? I don't know. But still, can can do the reflex real quick. It's their built in reflex. Not trained. And one more thing. If the height is to little. Cats don't have enough time to turn their body and it's not even required. The reflex was supposed to absorb the impact. Such a low height don't need that reflex cuz it don't even hurt the cat.
At the end of the video, he does say that under 30 cm is unsafe for the cat (because the cat may fail).

Well not necessarily. Take for example running. Now, if you've ever ran before you know the faster you run the more you have to tilt your body left or right to turn left or right, right? For example if you're running fast and want to make a left curve, you shift more body weight to your left. It's something you learn from practice, just basic motion You probably wouldn't even think about it if you tried it right now. when you do it but that's not necessarily because you knew it instinctively. (But then again, when was the last time any of us actually ran fast? I'll give you a high speed trot, that's about all I have to offer, lol. 😂) Take for example motorcycle riding or high speed bicycle riding. If you're going fast enough you learn that you don't turn the wheel left or right. But you actually push on the handle bars. If you want make a left curve you gently apply pressure to the left handle bar. And the opposite for making right curves. You don't need to know complicated laws of physics or the exact math to know if you push too hard or fast, you'll fall and get hurt.

yes that is true... lol... when i first got my cat i was nine... and i would always flip him on the couch and he would do multiple flips... until one day i fliped him too much and then he sprained his foot... i felt so bad i was bawling my eyes out, and til this day my parents still dont know hkw he sprained it.. i stoped after that.

Wrong! Cats suffer fractures and other injuries from falls. The cat's face displays fear and anxiety (notice the gray cat is very afraid of this guy!).

Cat's can suffer injuries from falls. These falls are not those kinds of falls. The child is dropping the cat from a low height, and the adult is dropping it into a padded box. Further, if you've observed outdoor cats (whether household, community, or feral) you'll see them jumping from heights greater than this as a matter of course. Cats rotate rapidly into a landing position, as seen in the slow-motion of the child dropping the cat where the cat is rotated into a full landing position before the fall is half-way completed. Additionally, they're giving the cat time to adjust and prepare to their position before dropping them.
When I was young, my litle brother did this to our cat (to watch the cat spin), and the cat was badly injured (maybe because she was to close to the floor). A torn ligament in result... The cat was in great pain, and never recovered the use of his leg. Just don't do that.
