    • Good video editing is harder than it looks. Doing it right requires some planning before you shoot any video to make sure you get the shots you need. And I think most editing noobs don't understand how much time it takes. That's why you see a lot of either raw video on KZhead or channels with dedicated editors. If you're running a business, you can easily shoot video as part of the job. But editing is like a second job.

    • There was an interesting video on the 1320video channel this week featuring Cleetus Mcfarland where he described his journey to becoming a 3.5M subscriber car channel. His content is great, but his production values are terrible with constant hose-piping of the camera leaving the view motion sick. I made a comment in that video using MORR as an example of how KZhead should be done using two or three full time video editors, who put together footage from multiple camera angles plus lots of cutaways. We barely notice the editing in Matt's videos, which is how it should be. So all of those people who left MORR to start their own channels have a good grounding in how it should be done. I made the point in the Cleetus comment that yo NEVER see hose-piped camera footage on Discovery Turbo or any professionally produced TV. Getting the footage is only half of the job. kzhead.info/sun/bLqvmZZwbKSsmYU/bejne.html

  • I’m happy for you Tom Tom, and sad for Matt - but now I’ll have two cool channels to watch! I also think it’s awesome that you and Matt were missionary companions back in the day and have stayed connected. Sadly, none of my old companions live nearby, but 50% of them are Brazilians, so that’s to be expected.

Also reiterates to the fans that he: doesn't "need a job" doesn't need to get "youtube rich" he's probably very vested in his retirement etc funds, he's a smart guy obviously. He's the kind of guy who thrives in new and challenging environments, Who else goes from Masters in Engineering to Off-road Master, Tom Tom We'll be here for you!

  • A degree in Physics, a degree in Nuclear Engineering, and yet you're one of the most down to earth awesome people I've ever seen - congrats on venturing out and getting time for your own projects! Matt also seems like a very down to earth and awesome person, I'm glad you are still friends. If you don't mind a fan dropping by your shop sometime, I pass through Utah with a great group of guys every couple of years with my Jeep. We live in Nevada, about 15 minutes from the Rubicon trailhead, send me a PM if you happen to be passing through this area and it would be great to meet you here too!

  • Tom, I speculate that you and I would have lots to talk about. Between 1990 and 2004 I was a Nuclear Plant Equipment Operator (N.P.E.O.) at a Southern California Nuclear Generating Site. I heard your Masters in Nuclear Engineering. I have nothing like that however I am pretty familiar with things "Nuclear" I and about 170 others made electricity. By far and away it was the best and most fascinating job I had ever had. I finished my work life working there and you could definitely say that that job made my retirement. Up to 1990 I had been a full time auto and light truck mechanic pretty much from the time I got out of the United States Navy in 1963. I am retired now and have a little 9 acre hobby farm in N.E. Oklahoma. I have a 30'X70' steel shop in my back yard equipped with a twin post lift like you have in your shop. The lift keeps me from having to lay on my back on cold concrete. A good thing for an 81 year old man. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed your video here about your plans in the future. Thank you very much!!

    • @@donmcannar800 I think some saw the money Matt was getting and thought they should get a cut of the pie. Also think they figure I can do this YT thing and are doing it. You get to remember its a job as well not just play time. People change jobs. There been a few car builder tv shows that came out and said that they had people leave because they thought they should get more money because there was getting money from the show as well and client but the owners of the shops actually showed where they wasn't even making money most jobs because of all the BS the show wanted them to do .
