4 month old XL American Bully puppy training for the first time outside. Here we are using her food to shape and lure her into position. I use a clicker to mark the finished behavior and reward with the food. This is far from perfect and will continue to be a work in progress!
Ps. Apologies for the audio... will be trying something new moving forward!

  • Great video. My 4 yr old Bully understands the basics and does well, but gets distracted way too easily. Just did this training with him today and we were able to go off leash until he started hearing kids at a nearby park. Then he started doing his "zoom sprints" around my backyard. Any advice on how to control the "zoomy sprints"?

    • Use a long line when training under higher distraction. That way if the dog breaks focus and takes off you can correct them and bring them back to you. Keep the sessions short at first and build duration and distance over time!

I've just been doing bits of treat incentive command training, with and without treat in hand, and already, she's sitting when prompted. Sits and waits for food...zero fuss or noise. Can even eat my food and she isn't even bothered. Not a stitch of begging or whining. Such an amazing temperament and personality. I love her so much.

  • getting a xl pup soon what are some ways i can teach him to not grow up aggressive and get along with everyone but still b a guard dog when at home

    @jessicamaytee@jessicamaytee3 жыл бұрын
    • Socialize him early. Take him out to experience all different sights, sounds and smells as carefully as possible. Avoid high traffic dog areas like parks and dog parks where he could pick something up. He doesn’t necessarily have to meet everyone but he has to see a variety of people and other animals, cars, bikes, rollerbladers etc... This will build confidence in your puppy and make sure you are leading by example, keep the puppy safe from non friendly dogs but let him work through his insecurities. As far as guarding, they have natural guarding instincts but if you’re looking for protection work then please please seek a reputable trainer. That’s not something you want to mess around with!

  • Our bully is 10 weeks tomorrow. Do puppies have regression? He knows leave it, down, stay, wait, come and his name. But sometimes he's just naughty. Is it just about keeping consistent? When do I know for sure that he has these commands down? I feel like he knows what I'm asking but he will legit sneeze at me and not do it.

    @cassliving8640@cassliving86402 жыл бұрын
    • That’s truly amazing if he knows all that at 10 weeks! Don’t put too much pressure on him though he’s still such a young puppy. At this stage you’ll need a reinforcer (food most likely) to reward him for completing the right commands. Don’t take that away too soon! Typically by about 6 months with consistent training the dog should know the commands without the lure. At that point when they fully understand the command and choose not to obey, you could correct them. But have fun with them at this age and DON’T be too hard on them, puppies make mistakes that’s all part of the process!

    • Obedience training is only one part to getting a well behaved dog. As a puppy make sure to be giving them lots of structure. Give them plenty of crate time to help them relax. Make sure they are getting carefully socialized to everything and use your feeding times as a way to train them. If you can stay consistent you will end up having a great dog!

    @tophodonthetrowel4730@tophodonthetrowel47302 жыл бұрын
    • Through a crate! Best way is to let your puppy observe everything through the crate. Once your current dog assesses the situation and is alright and calm with the new puppy. You can let them interact for short periods supervised. If the puppy is bothering the older dog (which will happen naturally) just relieve the older dog by putting the puppy in the crate. Once the older dog starts sleeping by the puppy in the crate, that will signify they’ve accepted him. Good luck!

      @tophodonthetrowel4730@tophodonthetrowel47302 жыл бұрын
    • @@tophodonthetrowel4730 I would keep your current dog away from the puppy and let your puppy explore a bit. Let him get comfortable with his new surroundings. I'd throw food in the crate and let him start going in and out of the crate getting rewarded with food when he is in the crate. I'd take him out to potty then when you do end up putting him in the crate and closing the door he is going to cry. It may be for 10 minutes up to 2 hours. He must learn to work through this so do not let him out. Once he settles down he will fall asleep and when he wakes up take him out to potty again. Make the crate a positive place to be by giving the puppy good things when he's in there and making him feel safe. Never use the crate as punishment always reward the puppy in the crate and this will create a positive association and a place the puppy will be happy to be in.

    @user-ky3hl1im1f@user-ky3hl1im1f2 жыл бұрын
    • Haha! That’s just what puppies do. I usually redirect them on to something they can chew on. If they’re still biting on you after that, they’re probably over tired and putting them in the crate is your best bet. Puppies need lots of sleep but will try and stay awake until they physically can’t keep their eyes open anymore. Keep them structured and make sure they get plenty of crate time because that also teaches them how to calm down in the house! Hope that helps

    • Typically I transition from using treats once I know the dog understands the verbal commands without the use of the lure. To do this I say the command, wait for the behavior and delay the lure if necessary. This is the stage where I then would add corrections to the dog for not listening to the commands. You will want to teach the dog to follow your lead, start off on concrete or pavement (less distractions) and practice changing directions while giving your dog a command (I use “let’s go”) if the dog stops you must continue walking and the dog will follow.
