I can’t believe Sage was able to get up after that, especially knowing what happened to the bones in his face.
There has been several times where guys had nasty injuries and they were acting mostly normal while the adrenaline was still flowing. But once the adrenaline wears off and reality sets in, they feel every bit of that damage.

It wasn’t any super technical strike by some genius striker that KOed him. It was a powerful punch with barely any set-up that made him pay for a bad habit. Yes it was a karate stance, but it only works well with distance

Setup was so beautiful, saw a weakness in sages guard, drove him to the ropes to close distance and waited for him to circle into his power hand to exploit said hole in sages guard. I sometimes wish id done kickboxing a little longer to go pro but god these elite level guys are so beautiful to watch... Layered and layered setups.

Distance management, Sage looked comfy in open where he would have ability to leverage karate stance, kicks/darts etc. Cosmo collapses the space and gets Sage against ropes/near corner. Takes advantage of Sage's low lead hand, single overhand was all that was needed.
take a world-class Kick BOxer with more MMA fights and put him in a boxing ring against a kid with no boxing ring experience... yeah distance management... I call it sabotage from whoever came up with this fight.

It doesnt work that way, brotha. MMA is a different sport. Look at Rodolpho Viera. He is a top level grappler and lost to mid-tier fighter (at UFC lvl ofc) via submisson. So Holzkien could lost to a grappler via KO easily in MMA fight. Its just an example.

I still don't understand why they matched him up with such a high level striker. Sage is a great fighter but his striking is obviously not at that level (most MMA fighters aren't). Seems to me like his best chance was to try to take Cosmo down to the floor and grapple.

The so called Falcon Punch is nothing more than a renamed punch from a very old Okinawan Kata called Anaku or Sparrow walks on Water.. It's very much a floating style which emphasizes body or Core power versus torsional Power. Very much a Dragon style which emphasizes Hsing I form...What Cosmo threw was nothing more than an overhand right that's it. That's all it was. This Falcon punch again borrowed from Anaku is identified by bringing your same side leg backwards as you throw the same side punch forward. It seems as though this movement cancels out the the power of the punch but if you understand Bunkai it explains exactly what is happening.

@@brotherlylovely I think it was more to do with the footwork. The bladed karate stance is great for bouncing in the middle of the ring but terrible for circling out. He just went backwards in a straight line to the ropes and stayed there.

@@mariookamoto6456 Wonderboy is a legitimate kickboxer. He uses some karate but he’s not purely just a karate fighter. Northcutt on the other hand has a major background in karate and accomplished far more in karate than Wonderboy ever did.

His stats were pretty impressive though. Kickboxing stats are 15 for 15. MMA was even 11 or 12 over 16 with 5 KOs and 3 subs. This was his only KO against him but a lesson in rising weight classes and fighting vets. Tough gig. He since reduced his weight again but got Covid(?) if I heard right. Recovering but still on the roster. Worth checking out the compilations of him. Still promising if he healed well.

Sage is not some great grappler who can just take down this guy at will, his background is striking where he was nowhere as experienced or accomplished as Cosmo. Sage and his team should have never accepted this fight period.
