Friday morning, November 17th and road 50 is icy and slippery. An Iveco semitrailer, loaded with steel from SSAB Borlänge, is coming downhill. The heavy trailer pushes the truck and makes it slide. The truck, along with its trailer, leaves the road, hit the ditch bank and is thrown back on the road again. The truck is turned into scrap. Now the road has been closed since one hour.

  • I can set here and make negative comments or I can say that most all education comes with a price. I hope that the driver wasn't seriously hurt and regardless of how good a man is, he will find "Nature wins again". I would pray for him and all involve that recoveries are quick. Healing comes with forgiveness for some unfortunate situations beyond our controls. Hopefully the next time that the man is in this situation he is able to assess his problem better. I hope his boss forgives and forgets the accident and remembers the good days that the man gave him. I have been in accidents that could of been avoided by better choice making. I didn't think I could tell other people I am human and capable of mistakes

    • There is an 'idle-up" feature on all tow trucks. Not for power but for pump volume to speed up the winches and cylinder movement. Some the operator uses a switch, some are load operated. Some are staged. The old ones used a cable control. The operator pulled or pushed a knob to choose what speed suited the work.

      @billsilversides1620@billsilversides16205 жыл бұрын
  • It's not a wire, it's a cable, which is a series of wires twisted together to form a steel rope - cable, which greatly enhances its strength.

  • You have a lot of trenches beside yr roads, these are for dewatering, a lot of trucks are stuck in these trenches, isn't it possible to cover these up with strong iron plates with holes in it for the water, so that the trucks aren't stuck again in it. Something to think about.

    @koosvanpetten5567@koosvanpetten55673 жыл бұрын

  • I suspect towing the entire truck by the front axle attachments is hardly what the truck designers/engineers had in mind. Beleive you are also making some big assumptions about the integrity of the fifth wheel mechanism on the truck and trailer after such a crash. Past experience is not a reliable predictor of future results.

    @tphilpin@tphilpin6 жыл бұрын
    • Towing by the front axle is normal procedure when towing brackets by the frame can´t be used. Using chains around the front axle is only done when the truck is on it´s last trip.

      @ADVideofilm@ADVideofilm6 жыл бұрын
    • I understand that towing by the front axle is normal procedure. I have also seen front axles forcibly removed from trucks during extrication. Note: All the towing and the tractor lift load is typically on the leaf spring hanger brackets. A suspension component primarily designed to support vertical rather than a lateral load. Given the size of the load, the steel payload of the rig, and the terrain, it calls into question the actual expertise and consideration for safety. It would be interesting to have an engineer calculate the loads on the standard hardware and geometry to determine a safety factor and whether an alternative procedure, (like wrapping the chains around the rear frame rails beyond the axle) or a back up should be utilized. You put the video out there for scrutiny.

      @tphilpin@tphilpin6 жыл бұрын
    • But Tony, this appears to be the way Falck is doing the job. ADVideofilm has shown this done many many by this company and others, it seems to work for them. It is obvious that you think differently, and that is certainly your choice and observation too. I did notice that Falck, here, ( and the Police ) is interested in getting the highway open quickly, this seems to be why they are towing the wrecked tractor and trailer to a safer area to be then taken away by the owner. Job done, it would seem.
