    • With our western mindset we will not be able to survive in those conditions for even a week either physically or psychologically. Everyone saying how amazing, well, talking about their society they're known to be very patriarchal and tribal. Men are still very authoritative towards women, kids have to bend to their parents in a submissive way, and their life is only based on work. We're too used to our freedom at the point to despise it, that's the problem.

  • Why did so many people comment about groom and bribe's facial expression. Wedding ceremony is different from your culture and that is all. Mongols assume the wedding is neutral thing. Dont be too happy, you may end up sobbing, dont be too sad, you may have a blessed partner in your life. That is why couple display neutral expression. As someone comments here like forced marriage, is he/she okay?

    • I've read same thing in many south asian wedding video. Western always keep asking if marriage is forced. They always think that all culture is like them or everyone should follow their way of things. In many Asina culture, laughing in your own wedding is not appreciated. We like to keep our face natural, neither sad nor too much happy. Even in some culture, if bride do not cry during wedding, people think she is happy to leave her parents house and childhood surrounding. Which make her family and friends sad, as they think it is a sign of she was not happy with her family.

As long as governments exist there will never be unity among men because governments need crisis and wars to justify their existence. So we call them "necessary evil". • It's interesting to see a traditional wedding least influenced by modernization. Very simple wedding only involve the family members and close friends. No showing off just sharing happiness and blessings. Everyone was very involved and helpful really like a family affair. I also love how quickly the family and friends decorated the ger given to the newly wed. They knew exactly what to put and where to put all those stuffs and it quickly transformed into a very warm home for the newly wed.

It is quite often to call new born kids ugly duckling so that they grow up to be beautiful and also to give someone name such as No Name (literal translation) to protect the baby from bad omens if previously the parents had miscarriages. The list can go on and lot of these superstition and ideology comes from Shamanism and Buddhism.

The weddings in Mongolia have a lot of similarities to my people's way of doing it. I've always wondered where the Hmong people descended from. Much of our history is lost. The Manchus themselves were the descendants of Zurchid people who controlled northern Chinese Jin Empire and fully absorbed by Mongols in the XIII century only to come back as Dai Chin Dynasty in the XVII century when Mongols were busy fighting each other. Even their script was a variation of Uigur Mongolian script. They heavily intermixed with Mongols, almost every Chin Emperors married Mongol princess to appease the Southern Mongolian warlords. The language of the Manchu itself just a variation of Eastern Mongolian language before Manchus abandoned their mother language, that explains the similarities in the dressing of Mongols and Manchus. • Mongols took many Indian customs bypassing China, I can't name it all here. Like Russians took Orthodox Christianity from the Byzantines instead of much closer Poland fearing Papacy control, Mongols were extremely careful, refused to adopt Chinese customs fearing they would be assimilated by the Chinese so instead sent emissaries to Indian states at the time. This wedding thing doesn't show everything. Because we absorbed the Indian customs (most likely northern or central Indian), we became immunized from Chinese influence. You may not know, but on October 27th of 1961, when Mongolian delegates participated the UN debate, the US, the UK and France objected Mongolian membership in the UN, the Russians, the Chinese, the Indians rose in the defense of Mongolia and showed support. You may not know that even Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru made a lengthy speech on why Mongolia must be a member of the UN by citing 3000 year history between the countries. If you come to Mongolia, you would realize the ancient cultural exchange right away. For example, traditional Chinese games like mahjong or any Chinese games are absolutely absent in Mongolia, but we play chess like Indians and Pakistanis. Then you watch Chinese opera, and then watch Mongolian dancing, it's perfectly synchronized with Indian dance moves, you then hear Chinese music and hear how Mongolians sing, Mongolians sing very similar to Indian and Tibet. we have nothing similar to the Chinese. The cultural ties between Mongolia and Indian subcontinent is much greater than people realize. If late Jawaharlal Nehru was alive he would have said something I couldn't. Hey buddy, English is not my first language so it was a messy post. feel free to ask anything related to Mongolia, I'd be glad to answer, peace out.
