I love that this author believes in rescue dogs. The tips and training has been invaluable and gave me moments of.... "how simple why didn't i think of it" so it's been a great tool. Thank you!

  • Training can really take it out of you, but the end results are worth it. Honestly, trying to train a mischievous dog is very difficult, but also rewarding once you get to establish a good rapport. We once had a difficult dog but with perseverance (a couple of months and tons of treats) we managed to finally train our dog and it's very, very rewarding. Just be consistent and keep training!

    @dogtrainingvideos3838@dogtrainingvideos38386 жыл бұрын
  • *SUGGESTION:* Consider simply saying "sit" without preceding it with their name. In other word, do not say their name in conjunction to the command. Also try not to speak at all when rewarding a dog with a treat because just as you pointed out, a dog should not always require the treat or praise with the exception of periodic/annual reinforcement. *_GREAT VIDEOS!_*

    @Christian_Prepper@Christian_Prepper9 жыл бұрын
    • I think your view is too militaristic...the dog always deserves a praise. However, I like your direction.

    • I think using the dogs name helps the name become a buzzword that marks attention for the dog. You just have to use the name with all tricks. Then do the tricks without the name to separate it. Teaching a dog its name is important.

  • I have to say I know this is a six-year-old post I still wanted to comment on your technique. We both pretty much do our training the same way. I have never been a fan of the clicker movement or a treat for every time they do something right. I've been doing Shepherd rescue for over 20 years and in that time I have been given the pleasure to get free training from a lot of different organizations. I have trained with three different law enforcement agencies and the department of correction. Also dozens of public trainers who wanted an endorsement and free advertising on our webpage. I'm very big on hand commands. Whenever I take in a foster I will test them to see where they're at. I used to have a great helper. She was my first German Shepherd that I rescued as a puppy. And the reason she was turned over is that the original owner was a teenage girl and could not or want to teach her how to behave. Whenever I would have a foster who might have been afraid my baby girl who was the alpha after me what pick up my fosters signs of being afraid. She would jump right in there and walk right beside them off leash and normally after a week they would have their confidence. Whenever I see somebody that only treat trains their babies I always ask them what will you do if you run out of treats? Most of them have the same answer that they won't run out. I guess they have a magic bag that never runs empty. I just prefer getting them to hand commands faster. Ever after kids were younger all of us would take walks with all of our babies sometimes it could be as many as six to eight. My boys learned early how to handle German shepherds that weigh them at that time. And when one would stop and set all of them would. We even have a nickname in our neighborhood. They call us the German Shepherd house the safest house in the neighborhood. I enjoyed your video and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good trainer online.

      @itslau578@itslau5787 жыл бұрын
    • It's Lau because he's confused. You are accepting the biting behaviour, which is making is a game. You want to play the "sit" game, and he wants to play the "bite" game, for example. when he bites you, yelp or yell loudly and then turn away from him, walk away and ignore him for 1 full minute. This is pretty much the worst punishment for a young dog. after a minute, carry on playing the game, and teach "sit" from the beginning of this video

    • just leave the treat in your palm and make a fist and leave it in the middle of the air while he goes crazy. don’t smile or anything just stay quiet and stay there till he calms down. once he stops biting open your hand and say “good”

      @p00pysc00p@p00pysc00p4 жыл бұрын
    • you need to train your dog to calm down first before training him to do anything else. it takes time but it’ll work. and don’t yell or hit him. just stop everything when he starts acting out of hand. and he will know that if he goes crazy then you won’t wanna play so he’s gonna calm down

    • You can actually start training your pup right away. That is what I was told when I was bringing my dog to training school. Behavioral training is especially important to start with if you don't want your dog to develop bad habits such as jumping on furniture you don't want them on or eating out of the garbage. Again, this is what my trainer told me so don't take my word for it. I brought my first pup to him for training 2 months after I brought the pup home and was told I should have started him in obedience school sooner, with a month being the latest. I'd be interested to hear what this woman in the video suggests though as she is doing an excellent job. You can find some excellent dog training info online as well for your particular breed. Also you could try calling a trainer for some tips on when and how to start training.
