DIESEL DUKE: Compound Turbo 12 Valve Cummins 1930 Ford Model A Rat Rod on Dually Mud Terrains | EP31
A rat rod diesel smokestack spectacle, he calls it "The Duke" - a rolling manifestation of Duke's larger-than-life personality. Cruising through Tucson on dually mud terrains with a Dana 70 rear end, the bagged 1930 Ford Model A rat rod, with its commanding 1993 first gen Cummins 12-valve diesel, dual whistling compound turbos, boisterous train horn and imposing stacked front exhaust, gets attention where ever it goes. Nicole meets up with Dustin Duke to discover the nuances of the 47RH transmission with its Kilduff shifter first-hand, and breaks the tires loose on a desert road.
MORE ABOUT DUKE:
Known simply as Duke, Dustin Duke grew up in North Pole, Alaska and now resides with his wife in Tucson, Arizona. Referring to himself as a redneck with a motor addiction, his positive attitude towards hard work is infectious.

As a german i admire not only your unreal build, but also the freedom of your country, able to go onto street with it.
We appreciate that...thank you for watching!
This would indeed be impossible here in Europe, i cannot begin to image all the environmental/tax/inspection laws this would break. Awesome machine though!!!
As a German born from Dessau who moved to northern Canada 🇨🇦.. you have no idea what it’s like to own 60acres with my nearest neighbor living 15km away.. freedom to drive skidoo’s dirt bikes for hours without driving over the same snow or dirt.. I still have my original 1972 Dodge Challenger.. I’m a diesel & heavy equipment mechanic so if I break it I fix it Great build Duke.. that baby runs like hell… Cheers from HudsonBay 🇨🇦
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetourthis vehicle looks very similar to another one out there you sure you built most of it
Same here as an Italian, home of the Ferrari and governments here want to make 30km in city centers a law🤮
I am so proud of you honey, and Nicole it was so fun meeting you and having you guys hang out a couple days. Thanks again for coming and doing this video!
We loved getting to know you both and, thanks to the rain, got to hang out a bit! Duke has a big heart and you got a great guy with tons of personality! Hope to see you again in April for the Rat City Rukkus!!!
Love that woman. A true gear head and driver. Car is fantastic Duke.
I love you my beautiful amazing wife you are my life and my world!!
Wow! What an absolutely incredible video. I got the feels, man. The Duke's seem like the most genuine, can-do, let's-party-while-we're-learning-new-things kind of folks. I felt like I somehow met two old friends just from hearing this story. Nicole was her special self and is always so carefree and great in listening while interjecting the right questions. 14:57 Dustin. I love your basset. My wife and I lived in Phoenix in 1988 1989. We were just out of college and kids living in apartment in Phoenix. We looked in the newspaper and saw an ad for basset hounds. We drove down to Coolidge. To a breeder and picked out a Bojangles tri color basset hound. She had two litters of 11! My guy pulled on me shoelaces. Named him Axelrod, after a stuffed animal best hand I got from my aunt when I was a little kid. He was the best dog in the entire world. Your dog looks so much like him it's uncanny. I'm very happy for you. Your build is off the hook and I'm glad you're getting this exposure. Best, Pete

I know a guy who turned an old truck into a rat rod (he prefered calling it automotive art). Anytime someone wanted to take a closer look at it, he would always ask them in a serious tone if they were up to date on their tetanus shots. That joke never got old. He also kept a garbage can and shovel in the back, he said it was for picking up the parts that fall off. Great video again Nicole, and thanks to Dustin for introducing us to your labor of love.

In 06 my dad died in my arms at the Bronx VA hospital. A month later my Rottweiler, the best friend I’ve ever had; my 11 year old baby I took absolutely everywhere I went died in my arms at the Vet. It was so hard with my dad but my baby broke my soul. I still cry almost every time I think about him like I am now. His ashes are right next to me when I go to bed and when I die, he gets buried with me. This guy has that same exact je ne sais quoi I did when I lost my baby. Gotta stop here at the air horn bit to say yet again that the content here is beautifully predictable in some ways (fabulous host, great content, indelible images) yet always unpredictable in other ways (engineering excellence, historical perspectives and such) but I don’t think I’ve seen anybody set up Nicole for an outtake better than Duke did with the air horn. My god that was perfection. The setup was calm, nice measured tempo and tone and BLATTTT! sent our normally unflappable host damn near through the garage wall and clean outta state…while Duke stood there all casual and quiet to let the A/V collect all the collateral damage behind to reassemble itself. Well played. I’m laughing WITH you, Nicole. Just wanted to clarify that…⛄️ *Edit*…Finally managed to get through the whole segment and yes I let the ads run all the way (of course). I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud more at a car segment than this one. Okay maybe that ancient Top Gear episode where they raced motorhomes around a paved oval track. But other than that one, this. What a gem. And now, off to watch it all over again.

Thank you so much for watching...we're glad you enjoyed it!!
@@NicoleJohnsonsDetour @NicoleJohnsonsDetour I really enjoyed it. after i watched it, I played a little guessing game of when it was filmed , in my brain, because a lot of videos take months to edit. i never came to a conclusion. thats not the point though, i did really enjoy this. That wrench and the green wash is a spectacular rat rod touch i havent gotten to see on video or ever yet besides on a toy rat rod from when i was little. he is right when he said its a spaceship, I really love it. i hope i can see it one day in person.
I’ve seen this rat rod in real life and great video but you have to see this thing in person. There’s so many little quirks it’s amazing.
Thanks man I really appreciate it!!
The horn. The Canadian tuxedo. The laughs. Great video!! The builder/ owner is a character with his emotions on show, lots of respect! Thanks for sharing your creativity, the truck is perfectly insane
We appreciate you watching...so glad you enjoyed!!
Canadian tuxedo? First time hearing that.🤣😂
Such a good dood! His emotion and passion just add to the overall appeal of the project. Amazing.
We totally agree!! Thank you for watching!!

That calm house intro with rat rod rippin got me !
Thanks...glad you like it!!
Ha ha ha that’s so funny and bad ass!
As far as the design, the art and the execution, this is probably one of the cleanest rat rods I have ever seen. Love the sound and it goes like stink too. Thanks for showing us this one, Nicole. Nicely done.
Glad you like it! Thanks for watching!!
Thank you so much for enjoying build
Was the best video I've seen in a long time. The dude needs his own t.v show!
We're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Thanks Todd!
Ohhh come on people..that’s all you got. Listen I’m sixty and lived through the era of hot rods in all forms. This guy is a mother f***in genius. I wish this guy was my neighbor. In my neighborhood I’m the the one that builds (woodworking). It’s a rare thing anymore to see people out in a garage creating there masterpiece. I used to live at KCIR (Kansas City international raceway) as a teen. These guys would fire up nitro burning funny cars and for $5 you could get a pit pass and bs with the mechanics and drivers. I miss those days a lot. This really brought back memories ….thank you so much.
Thank you for the comment!! We're so glad you enjoyed watching!!
Thanks man for the kind words!! I’m so glad you enjoyed my dream build!!
