As soon as Rickles changes his tone room goes silent, that’s respect. Don’t have his style of comedy anymore. You’re truly missed. You are a Cadillac.
No, Don is not a Cadillac. He is a Lamborghini. (Great respect for Cadillacs. But I just thought the Lamborghini was another first-rate vehicle more akin to the speed that Don's mind operated at.)
It was 2 great artists acknowledging respect for each other. This is why Britain and America and there allies must always stay in power .freedom of expression is the, single most important liberty expression of democracy we have in the Western world.
Actually, when Don stood up and started talking..........he was going to be...........DON RICKLES!!!!!
Don knew how to do the roast perfectly, he knew how to do the sincerity perfectly... That man was such a freaking professional.
@chetan rakieten Can you explain what you mean with you are a cadilac cuz am not native speaker .
"It is now 11 o'clock , I'm fed up and tired". Classic.
Pretty much me on a daily basis now
Fact
My life as an adult lol
He was the only one speaking the truth there.
Legend
Absolutely killing the room from his jokes to a solid transition into a heartfelt speech, Don Rickles man. RIP.
Thé parle moi
He was a master @ that.
*“(Robert De Niro) one of the great actors of our time, YOU ASK HIM!”* Dead 😂😂😂
Harvey Calvillo if you watch the video he says this about De Niro....
Man, just explain it
@Harvey Calvillo He's making fun of De Niro that the only person that thinks he's a great actor is himself. If you ask him, that's what he'll tell you.
@Harvey Calvillo I'll really dumb it down for ya. He's basically calling De Niro an egotistical prick. All in good fun of course.
@@FlexWheeler2nd Really! The guy didn't understand the line? Now I know where " I see dumb people came from!".
He insulted the entire room at once! Who else can do that!?
except Clint Eastwood.
And not offend anyone

_”You are special. Never forget that…you are special”_ Don had a way of ending that made it sound like a proud father speaking to their child. Martin almost cried 😢
I don't know why, but seeing Paul Sorvino in the background made this clip all the more worthwhile
He moves slow because he doesn’t need to move for anybody.
and Bonnie Raitt. She is such a great singer
Rest his soul peace, good actor, serious mobster role hi made
Fly high Paulie 🤍🫂
RIP Paulie. He’s showing all the other legends up there how to slice garlic so it just liquefies in the pan.
To be roasted by Don Rickles was like getting the Good Housekeeping seal of approval, cause he never insulted people he didn't like.
Ehm he insulted plenty of people he didnt like. He was very bitter throughout life.

He should have stopped at the insults.
I disagree my friend. There was need for Don to get all mushy, but that's just me.
Christopher Sansone you clearly don't know Don.
If you are roasted by Don Rickles, you have definitely made it. And he was always INCREDIBLY gracious at the end. A class act. RIP.

There once was a thing around called respect and dignity
Absolutely inimitable style of comedy. There will never be another.
At the end of vid, That was the best blessing i ever heard.... ...what a classy person
yes, the part about his late mother (God rest her soul) just hits me right in the gut. Very bittersweet, Very Classy.
Absolutely, what a class ending. You can tell it really meant a lot to him.
Reminds me of Robin Williams. He goes off with jokes and burns in his speeches but always ends them humbly.
I agree
@@goodbadbill goddamn. still cant believe robin's gone. still the saddest celeb death to me
Many don't know that Scorsese's mom (who made cameos in some of his movies) passed away earlier that year, and it was touching tribute to her by Rickles, that caught him off guard.
fischkopf I loved her in goodfellas. You could tell there was no acting there she was just being herself and I preferred watching that to a more well known actress putting on a 'performance'. I bet her and Rickles got on like a house on fire in Casino
Thanks for that info. I did not know.
that was really sweet of him it caught me of guard
Whenever I Re-watch this video I can't help but cry after knowing this. It makes this wonderful moment so much more beautiful.
She played Pesce's mother in Goodfellas.
“You ask him, he’ll tell you”

Perfectly said dude👍
Yeah well said

Thats a great line dude
This was priceless. The man is a national treasure. He can go from good natured insults to making Scorsese almost cry within a few seconds.

love how martin looked like a shy, sweet little boy when don was complimenting him
It was not just that I think, Don mentioning and paying tribute to his mother who had just passed away back then, took him aback a little and made him emotional. That expression on his face says alot.
The man who built his career with bold insults always gave the warmest compliments that cut through. That's a man of man.
I've watched this 50x and I still laugh at this comic genius. He was an amazing man. We miss you Mr. Rickles
100% agree. I know every word of Don's speech but laugh and get moved everytime I watch it.

good joke but now that he is dead i just say from bottom of my heart... fuck you :)
I agree.
ouh was probably
And the irony is that in Casino, he is the man who says almost nothing, and always stands next to De Niro with a grim expression as they watch over the Casino.
And he gets humiliated by Pesci in a scene.
but NAILED that part! He wasn't "Rickles Plays a pitboss". he WAS the guy. no looks, glances or grimaces that would have broken character...just a great actor.
Kelly's Heroes was Rickles' high moment as an actor.
He did say it was a treat.
@@funkster007 that’s my favorite part! when Joe Pesci beats his head with a telephone😂 It's like he was trying to make fucking mash potatoes
If you’re going to receive a tribute, that’s the way to do it. The look on Scorcese’s face spoke volumes at the end. It touched him deeply.
Martin's mother passed away in Jan that year. The last part by Don was so nice and sums it up the care he must have for people off screen. Legends!
Don's words of kindness at the end just tear me apart. He's such a lovely man I think I'll die a little inside when he leaves this earth... Praise the king, Don Rickles!

Mom and Dad, saw Don Rickles in Vegas in 50s. They said it was the funniest show they'd ever seen. Over the years they saw him 3 more times, Dad always got as close as he could hoping he'd be insulted by Don. He never did, but like me, he loved Don Rickels. The man is one of a kind and they'll never be anyone like him, no matter how many try.
A T Morgan nice Story
A T Morgan it’s the one time that you actually want to be insulted by someone. I didn’t care how or why , don, just insult me !
I saw Rickles in a hotel show in Atlantic City In the early 1980s when I was a teenager. He was hysterical, insulting everyone at once with funny remarks, but he had a beautiful heart. Then throughout the performance, not once was he being mean or hurtful while he insulted person after person in the audience in the small venue where I saw him perform. Fantastic show.

@@TheSkundertaker3 Oh, ok. Lol Thanks!
@@TheSkundertaker3 I'm pretty sure he said "see me" because his name would be in a phone book and Martin would have to book an appointment to see him
No, it’s a joke. He’s saying Scorsese is short and needs a phone book to sit on like a booster seat to see over the table. Maybe it’s an American thing, but it’s an old joke that old ladies need to sit on a phone book to see over the steering wheel of a car.
Nobody. NOBODY...does it like Don Rickles.
how can you forget GEORGE CARLIN!!
Naughty America
George carlin was the same caliber..and Ricky Gervais now! They are all legends
Rickles was a giant - he really kills here - like a great orchestra conductor - his comedy has great dynamics - the ending is heart felt - RIP Don!
This was so beautiful! Imagine being as revered as Scorsese is and having someone you obviously respect and admire like Don Rickles call you the Cadillac and mention your mothers pride of your work, that was a genuine moment of seeing Marty the man and not the great cinematic legend of the world. The joke about Robert Deniro was hilarious, well all of it was so funny. I love how Don would rip them, all in good fun of course, and then praise them at the end. Don Rickles was truly one of a kind. A true man. He had such personality and the biggest heart, you can tell. You ask him ! :P
For me, Don Rickles is the greatest comedian who ever lived. He never had anything prepared. Just came out and started firing away. Amazing delivery, energy and timing. Even with the lines that he repeated over and over again, you still laughed because of that amazing delivery.
