The year is 1890 and Bible Professor Russell Carlisle (D. David Morin) has written a new manuscript entitled "The Changing Times" . His book is about to receive an unanimous endorsement from the board members at Grace Bible Seminary when, surprisingly, Professor Carlisle's friend and colleague, Dr. Norris Anderson (Gavin MacLeod), dissents raising an objection. Dr. Anderson believes what Carlisle has written could greatly affect future generations. Using a secret time machine, Anderson sends Carlisle over 100 years into the future, offering him a glimpse of where his beliefs will lead.

  • Though an older movie, still one of my favorites. And the professor's final plea to the church near the end of the movie is gut-wrenching and convicting. I love when he said, "Jesus will not save any man that He cannot command." We forget that our Christianity isn't about us, but about the Lord and following Him. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), but we also forget we're His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). I have this movie in my library and take it out whenever I want a reminder of what to watch out for in my own walk in the Lord. And time is short; we need to be about His business. Let's go out and preach that glorious Gospel (Romans 10:14-17).

  • This movie was an eye-opener to me. To be honest, when I saw the doctor standing in fronting the TV screen while the boy was watching, I chuckled at his behavior for being a little quirky and adorable and thought, well, that’s how a time traveler would react. But I caught myself laughing at it realizing how I’ve been numbed by sin in entertainment, being in the exact condition the boy was in. Any entertainment is not an option if it disrespects the LORD and promotes sin in any way, even if it’s small. Just like water and oil don’t mix together, God’s holy nature and sin simply don’t go together.

    • I've been wondering about this movie for _years_ ; and am happy I finally got the opportunity to see it here on YT. 😇 It was pretty good for the most part. I would've liked to see some more detailed interactions from the main character re his introductions to modern technology-cars, TV, computers (the closest thing they had in late 1800's were manual typewriters!); bicycles (they haven't changed that much; plus he could've used one to get around faster); -shoot, even radios! His visit to the movie theater involved two things he was totally unfamiliar with: 1.) moving pictures (they only had the first rudiments in 1890, with no sound); and 2.) color; yet he seemed to not react at all. Instead they focused on the moral/spiritual aspects of progress, which was fine (and expected). I just wish the "fish out of water" element was portrayed more realistically.

      @nostalkingzone@nostalkingzone Жыл бұрын
    • @@nostalkingzone The fish out of water aspect was not the main message. The movie was trying to bring to light the absence of the name of Jesus in our daily lives. The movie was well balanced, and honored its purpose.

    • @@ruth7965 Oh, I agree! I just found myself wishing the producers had included D. David Morin's character looking up at the sky at a passenger jet flying by...just once, for some added realism. ;) A more mainstream audience, more than likely would not relate to (much less care) why Jesus' name should be present in modern-day society (by this, I mean only that the movie seemed more aimed at a Christian audience than the average moviegoer). But the scene at the library, where he was SOOOOO tempted to look up his life -including (likely) the year of his own death-THAT was _Very_ realistic ( _I_ think) to the temptation *Any* of us (Christian or non) would've felt in a similar situation! (btw, Professor Carlisle had _quite_ a large enough "butterfly effect" set in motion already, as things were). 🙂

So: could you _just chose_ to no longer be convinced of that, to then _truly_ not believe it anymore? Since I think the answer to that is _''no'',_ why would the bible deem it my fault or my mistake if the book didn't convince me of its god-claims as if I could and should have decided to believe it all anyway?

And we still can but not the same amount as we could before, mainly because of how some of our technology is being used. Look at our laws. Some of them specifically contradict the Commandments and the people that make these laws are voted in by us. We choose to let man’s laws to supersede God’s Law. We choose to let corrupt people make moral decisions for us. We can slow it a bit. Spread the Words of Christ and do our best to live by His rules and example even when it’s not convenient or beneficial (at the moment) for us. As a society, stop electing immoral people that only care about greed and lust to represent us. I mean, if you had to send someone to deliver a message as your representative; would you choose someone that’s reliable and shares your morals? Or would you choose someone that’s a liar, a thief and believes in nothing?

    • Hi there! (: I hope that you are doing well. Although I agree with you on almost everything that you wrote here, there is one thing that you are wrong about and that is that this movie is not Biblically spot on. Rest day is on Saturday, it is the 4th commandment. I encourage you to find out who “changed” the rest day from Saturday to Sunday and then I encourage you to remember what is written in the Bible. That nobody can change Gods commandments. It is safe to say that the devil is trying and he is succeeding in to fooling many of us. I encourage you to pray upon this message and may our Lord be with you on this journey in finding out the truth🙏🏽

The US Army was raping and killing its way across the plains in order to exterminate the native tribes so white settlers could strip the land of its timber and gold. Every major city had a red light district filled with brothels and the violence and lawlessness of the wild west was in full swing. Moral Christian leaders of the era like John Rockafeller and Andrew Carnegie were getting untold riches by operating sweatshops and when the workers wanted to be paid fair wages the response was to hire Pinkerton thugs and strike breakers to go murder the workers and their families. Leopold II of Belgium was given control of the Congo under the promise to bring Christ to the natives of Africa and instead forced the country to work on massive rubber plantations and killed the children of any who could not meet his quota, killing 14 million in what was a larger genocide than the Holocaust. How much of an idiot can you be to think this was a more moral era because people didn't swear in movies back then and women weren't allowed to get divorced?

  • This movie clearly shows how the world is today pastors going to evangelism tell people of what they do apart from Christ it's like a business trying to sell what you have to another yet Jesus should be the foundation not us trying to help Him out putting sugar of things. Thank you so much for the movie so edifying ❤

  • This is such an amazing movie, so beautifully made, so wonderful!! God bless everyone who made it! I absolutely adore time travel and this movie combines both my love for my Christ and my passion for time travelling. Exquisite execution of this combination! Praised be the Lord! Unfortunately, this is the reality indeed : this world is the kingdom of satan. We need to stay connected to our Lord Jesus Christ with all our hearts to resist the power of this darkness

  • I saw the last part of this film when I was a child on TBN; almost 2 decades ago. Now I fully understand it. Thanks for posting it. We can't work ourselves to heaven it's only by grace and the Lord's patience. It breaks my heart to see the difference. We've become too acustomed to seeing certain stuff on streets and everywhere. Have mercy on us Lord Jesus!

  • As I am nearly 66 I felt the urgency this movies message implied.. as I tell my children how I have watched as God has been stripped from us in most every aspect of life ..how generations in the past 40 or more decades have been slowly fed sin through media .. how our world is far worse then Noah’s times and getting even more corrupt each day … all the signs are in place for the return of Jesus the question is this “ Can we endure the pressure to be faithful and not fall into the pits of hell by being obedient to the world ? “ one day at a time and repentance many times a day with diligent is one’s only hope .. God bless us all as we armor up for YOU 🙏

  • Wow... this movie is already starting off great 🙌💛 Edit: I watched the whole thing, and it was such a valuable lesson being taught. WE NEED JESUS IN EVERYTHING. And the days we are living in, are extremely wicked.. which is why we need to repent daily, and stay close to him, because the end is here. And at any moment he will return, and hell will break loose. I pray all of you stay prepared.

  • Wow!!! The first five minute apologetic argument is literally the seeds sown for the destruction we live in today. This literally put a huge smile on my face. In 1890 they had this deductive thinking (I hope), imagine what they think of us, if they lived in the now?

  • Very well-thought-out story. There are a lot of churches today that try to "be the hands and feet of Jesus" without actually sharing the gospel with people. Subtle and dangerous, and I live how this movie shows the logical conclusion.

  • Just noticed another revelation as I watch this all the time before bed now lol. But, when they all sat down at the table, none of them challenged Russell. They all agreed and gave him their endorsement. It took dr. Norris to say something for there to be real change. It showed me that even the most well known scholars can mess up and have something sent out that may not be biblically accurate. If Norris didn’t challenge them, his stance would’ve never changed and he would’ve sent out that article.
