How to Remove: Toyota Pickup/4Runner Parking Brake Cable + Pull Handle
Here is the easy way to remove the parking brake cable and pull handle assembly from a 1980's Toyota Pickup/Hilux Pickup Truck or 4Runner. I'm working on my 1980 pickup, but the process is the same for 1979-1988 Trucks.

I got to say. I have seen your videos for so many things on my 87 4runner. Thank you for documenting this for everyone!
Nice! Now I just need to know where to get a new handle
To my knowledge, they're only available in the used market.
I really appreciate the videos. They have saved me a lot of time. I had to remove my parking brake a couple months ago after converting to rear disc brakes and the pulley housing for the cable coming out of the firewall was touching my 1UZ-FE after I swapped the engine. I wasn't able to figure this out and did it the hard way.
Nice swap!!
Nice, I didn’t know that trick to move that handle forward that last little bit. I’m actually looking for this for my 2wd as the previous owner removed the handle and cut a hole in the firewall for some reason. I did try one from a 3vz 4Runner but the mechanism is different from a 22re 4Runner.
Toyota doesn't make them anymore but I see used ones for sale sometimes. I have a nice used one in my store, if you're interested 6thgeargarage.net/yota/1984-1988-toyota-pickup-truck-1989-4runner-oem-emergency-park-brake-handle-pull-assembly/
After 1/2 million miles I wore my handle out...need a new one....87' excab...Toyota still carries some cables
VERY cool tip, thanks man!
Perfect vid: info needed with good visuals and diction all under 2mins. Liked. Will you do a "how to tighten an E-Brake handle?"? I have to pull mine all the way out to get the tires to hold in place.
Yep that's exactly how! If it's not holding the truck, then it can be adjusted at the rear drums as well, by turning the ratcheting mechanism inside. I don't have any videos of this but the next time they need adjusting I will make one.
Thanks so much for the insight. SO helpful! Curious if it'd be possible to swap the stock 'pull/twist' e-brake lever to an actual handbrake setup near the shifter. I realize it'd be more of a project, but that's kinda half the fun.
Tanks amigo good
👍
Hey this things looks just like a hardbody in the cab and engine bay
They do have a lot in common. I've even seen people put a hardbody bed on a Toyota.
