Today I'll show how to remove a rusty Toyota Pickup truck/Hilux bed from a rusty frame, full of rusty bolts, and out it onto a clean rust-free frame. I'l doing this at home in my residential garage using a homemade A-frame hoist built by @theshopspot9053
Special thanks to Ohio for supplying content for his episode!

  • Seeing this makes me appreciate the roads here in VA. My '84 Toyota Pickup barely has any rust on the frame or body.

  • Appreciate you filming all this, your videos are getting better n better, it feels like a more natural "you" coming through in these more recent ones with your humour and your natural voice. Thx a lot, am thoroughly enjoying the process and enjoying the fact that my 28 year old Land Cruiser has zero rust here in Africa.

  • Enjoyed your humor on using impact sockets. Ohio jokes. Your roads are better than ours in PA. Great attitude! That was the FIRST place my truck started rusting was on the swam on the side of the bed. I remember we back then that beds ŵere made in USA & cab in Japan. 👍

  • Progress! Watching that dirty tub be lowered onto the nice, repaired and painted frame made me grimace...I suppose this is a temporary arrangement because you don't have infinite space, until you get around to cleaning up the tub? Good luck with the videographer. I can't help because I'm in a Southern state, very, very southern...like Australia and the other minor reason is I am not a videographer ;)

    • You're right, it's a space issue, as well as not bothering trying to save this bed, as it's too far gone. I have a less rusty bed from the parts truck (standing up against the wall) that has some damage on the right side, but a lot less rust. I'm going to repair that one at some point.

  • Love your channel, I struggled with my bed a little bit, flipped it over, and laid it across couple sawhorses

    • Thanks! This bed is beyond saving, but I have another one with less rust that I will be restoring for this truck.

  • You already know that yes, half the people at home were indeed already trying this at home 😅

  • wouldn't it be easier to fix the rust with the bed off the frame? or is it a space issue that is why you mounted it onto the chassis?

    • One of his videos he did state aslong he has a space for his wife's car, she doesn't care what he does lol. So I'm guessing he has to always keep a bay open

  • I dont envy your salty roads .. did enjoy the video very much though! Would an angle grinder be an option where the sawzall failed? Thanks for continuing to share this series with us, love it so much!!

    • Yeah I probably could have cut those with an angle grinder. I have one but I only have a grinding wheel for it. More to come!

  • Instructions unclear. I now drive my snow blower to work and mow my yard with my truck. For real I feel you. I have a Ranger with 240k here in Iowa I have owned for 23 years that is falling apart as well and I am doing a V8 frame off restoration because it might be one of the cheapest frame off restorations ever done!

    • What year ranger? I don't see any 80's or 90's rangers on the road around here anymore :( I think they've all rusted away.

    • It's a 3-car garage, but it has some extra space. So about 3.5 car. I've stuffed 4 vehicles in with no issues.

  • I live and grew up in Oregon but I lived in Ohio back in the 80's for awhile and I was blown away by how rusty everyone's cars were after only a few years. I saw a lot of cars held together with duct tape and baling wire. Some folks had two cars. One for winter (a rust bucket) and another nicer car for the rest of the year. Kinda baffled me that the government there cared so little for citizen's vehicles that they would use something so caustic on the roads. Are they still using salt? To my knowledge, Oregon never used salt on the roads but in recent years started using a non-rusting de-icer when the weather gets messy.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if auto manufacturers lobby for road salt and even more corrosive brine solution to be used on the roads in OH. It's rare to see a 20+ year old vehicle daily driven around here. If I go south, I see so many more old cars on the road and they're not even rusty.

  • Great work and nice videos with good sence of humour. I really enjoying watching it and always finding something useful. And If I can my 2 cents here I think that you sounds so much better without commercial voice acting. I think it's more interesting the natural way like you're listening to a friend rather than a dealer. Anyway that's just me and I'm amazed by the amount of dedication you put into your work. Both on a car and video quality.👍

    • Thanks so much! I've come a long way in my video production over the years, but sometimes I still forget to say something so I have to go back and explain it over a voice over. Or the voice over sounds better than me cursing out a rusty bolt.
