Legend. RIP. I was at this game. Fantastic, unforgettable night. Remember a lot of fair weather fans leaving when we were 2-0 down with 5 minutes left, Villa scored two in the last four minutes. Serves them right. We were one nil up on the return leg at Barca and Gidman got sent off. Lost 2-1. Oh well. Up the Villa!

I remember ..this match was played on Saara desert, very close to the farest savana around Epypt when they built a stadium specially for that game and hours after an army of bedouins crossed the pitch looking fot the promise land.. I was there...This guy was the best on that pitch, that ball, that cleats....imagine today

This was back in the day when they used to have a mole problem in the UK. They couldn't see them in the black and white days, colour had only been invented a few years and they were still trying to remove all the moles from all of the football pitches. We've come a long way since then, not even a fly can hide from VAR.

I went to this game, at the time there were big problems with the pitch, unlike the surfaces of today I they used an helicopter to try an dry the pitch out. The players to day wouldn't cope with the state of the pitches back then. If remember right, they slit grooves in the turf and filled it with sand...

I was at this game too. Sitting in the North Stand with my late dad. We were looking straight down the pitch behind Cruyff when he scored. The pictures do not do justice to the accuracy of the shot. When Cruyff was substituted in the 2nd half. Everyone stood and clapped him off the pitch. I'd never seen that before and I've never seen that since. It finished 2 - 2 with Villa scoring 2 late goals. In the 2nd leg in Barcelona Villa scored first. Brian Little. Then they scored four. Four years later Mortimer lifted the European Cup for Villa when we beat Bayern Munich 1 - 0 in Rotterdam. Villa 1 of only 5 English clubs to be champions of Europe.

1) Barcelona were nobodies until they signed Cruyff. 2) In this match we see the makings of the team that lifted the European Cup for Villa in '82. Barcelona won the big prize ten years after Villa.

Q gusto ver a cruyff, posiblemente el mejor jugador de los 70 con permiso de beckembauer y sobrevaloradisimo entrenador en mi opinión . Es curioso creo,q la única vez q le vi en directo no fue con el barsa , AJAX ni Holanda....fue en un Atlético Madrileño -levante en segunda del año 81. Ahí el flaco ya solo era su sombra.Por cierto ganó 2-3 el levante,me parece recordar.

I was at this game too. Sitting in the North Stand with my late dad. We were looking straight down the pitch behind Cruyff when he scored. The pictures do not do justice to the accuracy of the shot. When Cruyff was substituted in the 2nd half. Everyone stood and clapped him off the pitch. I'd never seen that before and I've never seen that since. It finished 2 - 2 with Villa scoring 2 late goals. In the 2nd leg in Barcelona Villa scored first. Brian Little. Then they scored four. Four years later Mortimer lifted the European Cup for Villa when we beat Bayern Munich 1 - 0 in Rotterdam. Villa 1 of only 5 English clubs to be champions of Europe.

Hoy en día por desgracia te encuentras a tu equipo vestido de cualquier color,q hasta a uno a veces le cuesta reconocerlo.... pero q raro en esa época ver al Barça de blanco,parece el Salamanca. Q gusto ver a cruyff, posiblemente el mejor jugador de los 70 con permiso de beckembauer y sobrevaloradisimo entrenador en mi opinión . Es curioso creo,q la única vez q le vi en directo no fue con el barsa , AJAX ni Holanda....fue en un Atlético Madrileño -levante en segunda del año 81. Ahí el flaco ya solo era su sombra.Por cierto ganó 2-3 el levante,me parece recordar.
