I bought a cheap wrecked Audi RS6 C7 and i rebuilt it in in 24hours. But now i have to transform it into something special whilst also fixing the faults we still have with the Audi. Ive decided to try and recreate Jon Olssons Audi RS6 Dtm race car which was made years ago but then stolen and set a light. Lets hope i can pull this off before SEMA!

  • Hi Mat, a Dutch youtuber named Don de Jong has recently created a DTM style Audi RS6, built with the same style body kit as John Olson. This car is built bij Duke Design in the Netherlands. Due to car regulations on pedestrian safety in the Netherlands this car is going to be sold and can only be driven outside of the Netherlands. Maybe you can get some inspiration from it. Sick build!

  • Jon’s car was a dream of mine so for me the kit is superb… RS6 is the king of estate vehicles, unmatched. You can’t ruin it - once it’s all together it looks like a real monster. Love it.

  • The thicker glass is an option you can buy when configuring the car. It is actually thicker so it reduces the amount of outside noises you hear and i believe it also has some sun protection Film inside the glass

    • thats almost right. the acoustic glass has two layers of glass seperated by a thin layer of plastic. The A6 glass was an option. The RS6 glass was the standard.

    • The single piece glass with is tempered which is designed to shatter into a million pieces when it breaks. The “two piece” glass is laminated which is two pieces of glass with a layer of plastic in the middle. Laminated is made to crack just like the windshield. They offer laminated glass in both acoustic and non acoustic same as windshields. Some cars don’t offer acoustic though

  • I work at an Audi Garage and see RS variant vehicles all the time - as much as it pains me to say it, seeing this was fresh and new to me so i like it. It is one of them processes that you have to trust right through to the end result though - love what you're doing man and keep it up!

  • As a massive fan of Jon's DTM RS6 you should definitely let Jon know. I am sure he would love to support this project in some shape or form, maybe with ideas or tips and tricks. His RS6 was a living legend in the industry, and it came as such a shock that it got stolen and burnt down. Keep up the great work and best of luck. Can't wait to see the finished car!

    • @@Josh-zm9fz Car wasn't Jon's anymore when it got stolen and burned. Belonged to a dealer called Auto Leitner in Amsterdam, who had it for sale almost immediately after the Gumball 3000. There were also some rumours of Insurance Fraud with this car, because the way it got stolen and then burned was a bit of a shady story.

  • I’m pretty sure the two layer glass is what manufacturers call Acoustic Glass and is supposed to reduce noise in the cabin.

  • I come from the Netherlands and this body kit is a 10 out of 10 in my opinion. jon olsen's rs6 was a beast to see but in the netherlands there is another youtuber don de jong and he also had this body kit built on his rs6, only because of all the excellent carbon parts it is not allowed on the road and therefore comes in sales.

    • precies wat ik dacht. ik snap het ook wel van de auto van don dat het niet mag was ook echt het randje en jah je moet ergens een grens trekken, en Jah die grens is bij veel bekendheid sneller gespot en dan pakken ze je sneller. en eerlijk gezegd vind ik bepaalde parts zelf niet erg mooi. iets minder uitbundig had mooier en stijlvoller geweest vind ik.

  • The RS 6 is an absolutely beautiful car. Please get it painted afterwards because a car like this really deserves a lot of love. Especially with the coming era of EV's, cars like the RS 6 need to last as long as possible.

  • Hey Mat, the difference in glass is probably sound. The RS6 glas got a thin air layer inbetween that insulates the “cabin” from all the road noises, as a added benefit it probably helps in the winter with condensation.

    • I was going to say the same. I work at Mercedes, so I don't know the specifics for the Audi. But that would typically be like that when a car is equipped with a "sound insulation package", which is either optional or standard for upper lines. Could also be an extra laminated glass, so instead of air, there would be a film in there, helping for heat (anti UV) and theft

    • I have same kind of glasses on my passat too. I think they are laminates glasses and it insulates sound and makes the glass thougher.

    • The reason is because of the speeds that the car can achieve, it is a laminated Glas like in the front windshield, so if something hits the side window it will not just explode

    • I believe that tinted glass might be a good idea either, just not sure how it is going to feel with the gray in real life since it seemed quite dark on video... But I believe it might be a great option

  • I’m from the US and think this makes sense for North American (wide) roads. Might be tough to daily in the UK, but power to you! I think it’s rad. I’ve seen a couple RS6 avants in person and they’re already wickedly wide. This would be nuts to see in person

  • On early C7 RS6 this double glazed glass was optional, i am not sure if it was the timing of the facelift to C7.5 (i think it was earlier) but the double glazed glass became standard at some point on the RS6. It makes a noticeable difference to wind noise and sound isolation in the cabin at higher speeds. I'd definitely be putting back in the double glazed glass and trying to source some for the driver's window too (new it is several hundred pounds for a new pane).
