Today Dominic is checking out the Gigabyte Aorus FV43U. It's a massive 43in, 4K/144Hz display with not one, but two HDMI 2.1 ports. The screen itself is top quality, but as we find out, there is an issue with the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth that you will want to know about before buying...

  • Great looking monitor 🥰👍🏆 shame about the HDMI 2.1 bandwidth issue🤦‍♀️🤦. At least give 1x full bandwidth port that way you can use a PC with DSC and a console at its max output potential 👍. Love the review Dominic 🥰🏆🎉. The text display clarity as result of the sub pixel colour is something also to seriously consider as many people are looking at these large format displays for both personal and home office/business use and clarity of text is something many would consider a necessity in the current human malware situation.

These are meant to be VESA mounted for the best ergonomics. Bright monitor too. Runs great at 35 brightness, IMO. I recommend sitting 3 feet away for decent minimization of viewing angle. Looking at a completely black screen, the backlight was the least bad thing about it. I found it very passable. Looks great on OSX because they render text properly unlike Windows. • FYI for BGR layouts, you can change the settings of Windows ClearType in your registry to account for this subpixel layout and it will work properly. ClearType, in its default format, is accounting for RGB subpixel layouts and won't work as well.

    @CosmicApe@CosmicApe2 жыл бұрын
    • I've been using a BGR screen for a good couple of years. You can explicitly enable the BGR mode for Cleartype via the Windows Registry, but to be honest, it still sucks and will never look as good as a RGB panel. And then there are the apps that don't even use Cleartype and you have the issue back again. For me, BGR is utter garbage and is just a pain in the ass.. Totally not worth it.

  • Hello, I am using KTC G48P5 OLED monitor to play games. I tested several games like Resident Evil 3/2/8, Sekiro, and Elden Ring. And I found the dark region is not so clear as the OLED should be. So I tried to set the "dark balance" of the monitor from 50 to 100, it got much better, BUT the bright things like sunlight is distorted. That means I can't get a natural visual from that OLED monitor by setting the "dark balance". So I want to buy a non-oled monitor like this one to see if it gets better. I noticed that this monitor has a similar function "dark balance" to improve the darkness clarity, but I'm not sure whether this feature also increases the overall brightness just as the KTC does. If it affects only the dark region, I think it's OK for me to buy it. Could you please take some tests on that function? Thank you in advance!

  • The review is for some reason very HDMI - oriented, as if it is the default / better choice. I have the FV43U connected to my MBP 16" through USB-C and I get native 4k @ 144HZ out of the box, text looks 98% like Retina. As I use it for programming - I have no issues with color representations or text reading.

    @GalWeissman@GalWeissman2 жыл бұрын
    • I wouldnt say it was 'HDMI' oriented, but it is our job to find good and bad points with any product - we have been reviewing products for over a decade. And these HDMI issues are quite important for a lot of people. especially those using consoles as we discussed. Its not going to effect everyone as you say but we feel it should have been looked at closer before release. HDMI is critical for a lot of people. If we help Gigabyte and other companies make better products then surely thats a good thing for the consumer.

Positve: + HDR 1000 (if calibrated right, looks gorgeous) + Colors + Huge Size and still being a Monitor and not a TV + Built in Soundspeakers Negative: - Tinted Edges - BGR Screen (doesn't disturb me, i thought it would look much worse) - Black crush - Smearing (Since VA panel) - DSE Effect on all 3 Units I have tested - No Motion Interpolation / No 24fps support on movies - No 48 Gbps Support (dont understand why they made this decision, since it has hdmi 2.1....
