    • Could be, or the guy who marked the lines didn't know what he was doing. I did a job once where I was digging (by hand, with a posthole digger, like we were supposed to) five feet away from the markings and still managed to cut through an electric line. The GC wound up having to pay for it because it had been more than 10 days since Gopher One came out to do the markings - stupid rule, but that's the point. All kinds of reasons why something like this can happen, not just a stupid operator.

  • At 5:18 with the broken water line....it was NOT the equipment operator's fault. He was digging where and how he was told to. It was his Supervisor's fault for telling him where and how deep to dig without knowing or caring (one or the other) about the water line.

    @1001Hobbies@1001Hobbies2 жыл бұрын
    • Questions: 1. Was a one-call utility locating and marking system used a few days ahead of excavation? a. If no, then the company doing the excavation is liable, followed by the foreman, followed by the equipment operator. b. If yes, was the water line clearly marked? i. If no, then the water utility company is at fault. They should have been contacted by the one-call system and they should have known where their water line was and should have let the one-call system have the records to allow one of their people to mark it. ii. If yes, then was the equipment operator working in conjunction with a "spotter" - a coworker watching the excavation to be sure the excavator's bucket didn't come close to the water line. As the excavator began digging down to the indicated depth of the water line, the spotter or another laborer should have gone into the hole and exposed the water line with a shovel to give everyone digging a precise and visual location of the water line. Whether they used a spotter or not, the company is liable if the water line was marked.

  • Years ago I had to ship some high-end electrical gear via UPS so I put it inside heavy custom-made wood crating that was near indestructible, then wrapped them in the heavy-duty carboard like matting that gets used to protect floors during commercial store setup. They still destroyed the contents anyway. Two things I wondered about. What did they do to break them and just how many other peoples packages did mine utterly crush in the process..

  • Two days ago the FedEx bastards put a heavy, fragile package between my screen and the sidewalk. I could not open my door more than six inches (and due to injury could not move the boxes from that gap) and literally had to yell for help. They also beat the box to hell. 200$ brand new horse saddle, scuffed. Definitely wasn’t the seller who scuffed it due to location-was clearly shipping damage.
