I remember watching this when I was 17. I'm from Ireland and there was talks of Ricky Hatton vs delahoya in Wembley once he beats pacquiao(Hatton was the main guy this side of the pond). I never heard of pacquiao before this fight. I was in absolute awe with what I witnessed. Amazing fighter
Also Efren Reyes beat your idol Jimmy White, Steve Davis in Pool and O'Sulluvan in snooker.

Then he came to beat Hatton as well. HAHAHAHAHAHA

This is my first time watching this fight - I've just watched the first 2 rounds, I don't know the result but I gotta say - Manny Pacquiao - phenomenal work-rate, speed, accuracy. A reminder of how supremely fit top-level boxers are. Let's see how this fight unfolds 👏

you have to have never heard of the sport boxing or either Pacquiao or de la Hoya to not know the outcome. it's always good to welcome new fans of the sport!
Do you always watch sporting events 10 years after they happen?

Manny Pacquiao- Who can argue one of the best pound for pound ever?
@meaturama let's hear ur argument then.., and see who's the "idiot" really is.
@meaturama now it's obvious that ur the idiot in this convo.., Pac has never failed a drug test ever.., Floyd accused Pac and paid a lawsuit in the end, not to to mention Floyd's the one caught doing fishy.. yet u still believe the man who already paid for his accusations without proof.., that's what idiots are all about.. dumbness on another level.
Not, he's the catch weight pound for pound. 90% of his fights were at catch weight.
@@justw8nillbgr824 Pacquiao wouldn't take a drug test for $40 million Floyd offered him years earlier?????? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 💉💉💉💉💉 Steroids!

Manny is very good with his lead punches u dont see it coming he throws it so fast , when he is moving and weaving he throws that unexpected lead punch that is how he catch you.

Pacquiao's stamina is one of the greatest in boxing. He could dish out hundred of punches and not ran out of gas nor slowing down was a wonder to watch. He had no education but proved to be one of the smartest individual of his time.
Pac-Man is a petty foul steel sharpens steel

Couldn't have put it better myself. This isn't just great boxing dot-dot. He's just a beast through and through
Then up to 154 to fight Margarita. Dude is a monster!!!
@@KnockoutInvesting Well Margarito was a Welterweight before that fight and they fought at a 150-lb catchweight and although Pacquiao dominated the fight, Margarito fucked up his ribs and he was laying in a fetal position like two days after the fight. Indeed. Imagine most fighters at age 35+ goes downhill and eventually retire in the boxing career just like Oscar De La Hoya in this fight... Easily always at the top 10 boxers of all time for everyone if not most.

I agree. Oscar is still a great champion. I'm a Filipino but I love and respect Oscar Dela Hoya.
I'm a boxing fan.. Manny fought on Oscar's terms.. Oscar cane down to welterweight from middle weight.. Manny came up to wwlterweight from lightweight.. one of my favourite fights ever for some reason!
Watching this fight back in 2008 still pisses me off to this day for a few reasons: 1. De La Hoya lost and retired 2. Mayweather vs Cotto should have happened this year (2008) not 2012 3. Mayweather vs Pacquiao should've happened in 2010 not in 2015.
Mayweather was ducking

The only world champion and a current congressman-to-senator in history. 3x Fighter of the Year. Fighter of the Decade. Fought 44 title championships as of July 20, 2019.
Fitness Fanatic 🦾
About the 8 division world champion, it do not seems very fair, considering that he got the 154 title by putting a 150 pounds limit. I'm not saying that's the same thing, but it's using the same logic as if (because you are a big money fighter) to get a title at 154 but putting a limit at 140 pounds. I mean when you fight for a title you do not have the right to force your opponent to impose an other limit than the title.

Has there ever been such a brutal beatdown of a legend this way?
Sadly there's been waaay too many. Remember this was Oscar's last fight and he just retired on his stool. That white boy (I can't remember his name) literally knocked B-Hop out of the ring. Marciano did the same thing to Joe Louis. Tyson got beat down and knocked the fuck out a couple times. Don't even get me started on poor Ali's last few fights.

Look at Manny's feet he is like jumping rope the whole fight he had the rhythm the whole fight and look at his patience he takes time to break down Dela Hoya.. I think through the years of his career he changed his footwork not like this anymore, I think if he had maintained this no one can beat him
Top rank is hilarious for posting this
I could still remember that day when the Philippine Senate petitioned to stop the fight to protect the PACMAN (a national treasure). We even thought that Pac just took the fight for the money. A great majority gave him zero chance in winning against a Legend like Dela Hoya.. yet he made him quit. ICONIC! LEGENDARY NIGHT!
You’re being ridiculous. Dela Hoya is no legend and had already been exposed at this point. He dominated nobodies but lost all the most important fights of his career. Mosley had beaten him twice, even lost to Felix Trinidad, mayweather had beaten him and Bernard Hopkins had destroyed him with a body shot that sent him crashing to the canvas screaming, failing to capture the middleweight title. All the other greats had already beaten dela Hoya. This was his final fight. Manny had to win or it would have been embarrassing on his part. Manny was voted by ring magazine as the number 1 pound for pound fighter in the world at this point. He was no underdog here.
@@LegendInThaMakin Are you a comedian? Such a long post with no substance. Tell that to the Boxing Analyst and Historians of 2008.
He didn't quit they stop the fight and he couldn't beat Floyd Mayweather
@@LegendInThaMakin Oscar De La Hoya the greatest Chicano fighter ever Manny Pacquiao was so much younger he was a baby compared to Dela Hoya delahoya already been through so much he tide against Shane Mosley and beat him the second time they fought he beat Felix Trinidad then fought Floyd Mayweather and beat the hell out of him and only when he fought Bernard Hopkins who was almost a heavyweight got hit was a shot to the body oh wow and then he beat the other hundreds a fighters when he fought them Vargas Whitaker Chavez castillejo a legend fighter
Zain Curiel my point remains. Every time Oscar fought another ALL TIME GREAT he lost. Beat a bunch of lower class fighters but when he fought another big name fighter like himself he came up short every single time. How can I call dela Hoya great if he lost all six of his most important fights? I don’t wanna hear your excuses. Lost to Trinidad, lost to Mosley twice, Hopkins made him cry, Floyd schooled him, manny retired him. Is this the resume of a great fighter? Nope.

Many people forget that Manny fought in different weight divisions in just a year (2008): Marquez - Super Featherweight Diaz - Lightweight DLH - Welterweight Can any boxer besides Pacquiao can do that? Past or Present?
Marquez actually did. Marquez fought Juan Diaz at 135, then he was scheduled to fight Floyd Mayweather at a catch-weight of 144, BUT Floyd came in two pounds overweight while Marquez came in two pounds underweight (142 vs 146). So Marquez unintentionally went from 135 to 146 (11 pounds) which is actually a pound heavier than the jump Pacquiao made (10 pounds). Keep in mind that many decades ago there were less weight classes so it was more common for fighters to jump 10-20 pounds or more. Times have changed.
@4browsing, oh yeah, you're right with the weight. I was thinking Super Featherweight was at 135, but it's actually 130. It is similar to Marquez's weight jump, I'll explain. Manny fought De La Hoya at a catch weight of 145, but there was a rehydration clause for De La Hoya where he was not allowed to rehydrate over 147 pounds. This is the reason Pacquiao outweighed De La Hoya on the day of the fight (148 1/2 vs 147). So Pacquiao's total jump was 15 pounds but with a dehydrated 147 pound De La Hoya. Marquez unintentionally jumped 11 pounds to fight Floyd Mayweather, but they never revealed the weights of the fighters on the night of the fight (Floyd must of paid some people). Since Floyd was struggling to make weight, it's reasonable to believe Floyd rehydrated an extra 5-10 pounds. So Floyd could of weighed anywhere from 150 to 156. That would be a 15-21 pound jump for Marquez. At the end of the day, both Pacquiao & Marquez made big jumps.
@4browsing, actually there was a catch-weight and rehydration clause. That was big news back then. It's because of these stipulations that Pacquiao's team agreed to fight De La Hoya in the first place. The catch-weight was 145, and the rehydration clause was 147. Oscar and his team simply didn't expect Manny to come in as heavy as he did. I think Manny would still beat a hydrated Oscar, but it wouldn't be as easy.
@4browsing, you can find the info yourself if you really wanna look up articles from over 10 years ago. Pacquiao was criticised for fighting guys at catch-weights but I always pointed the finger at his trainer: Freddie Roach. Freddie specializes in catch-weights and picking opponents who look weak. Pacquiao had nothing to do with the catch-weights.
@4browsing, you're bitter over Floyd, but I don't care about that. Manny's catch-weight with De La Hoya was a hot topic back then. The fact that you think it's propaganda tells me you didn't follow boxing much around 2008-2009. At this point virtually nobody was talking about Floyd vs Manny because Floyd was thought to be retired.
Pac man is the favourite of all time. What a gentleman that man is
