If you’ve been following Apple for a while or know the company’s history, you’ll probably remember them having quite a few rivals over the past thirty five years. In the 80’s it was IBM, in the 90’s it was Microsoft, and in the 2000’s, it eventually became Google. But the rivalry between Apple and Samsung is more recent, and more unique. Since Samsung not only competes with Apple in the notebook, tablet, and smartphone markets, but also supplies Apple with key components for their devices. Like the iPhone’s OLED display and flash memory chip. So let’s explore how the two companies relationship soured, and how they feel about each other today.

    • well, it is Apple that mostly relies on Samsung for parts. Samsung still has other costumers for its parts, which any other brand aside from Samsung. Samsung literally sells components to all brands out there. Huawei, Xiaomi, Google, Oppo, Vivo, Motorola, etc… use Samsung components.

  • They do not rival each other it is a friendly competition. In fact my aunt told me and she works for Apple, she said when ever Apple Pearson goes into the Samsung store they get 50% discount or other way around.

  • I’ve got the banned tab at the time, the galaxy tab 7.7. It’s had à 3G connectivity and coud be user as phone, a expendable memory and at the time an unique 7.7 oled display. I have now Apple’s but I still remember it as one of the best electronics I ever had. It was great, powerful and versatile

  • The thing is with technology the only way to go is forward. And if one idea is a good one then companies migrate to it. I think eventually they figured out that it's ok to use ideas from other companies as long as they maintain brand identity and don't make visual similar products

  • As much as I love Steve Jobs and his historical innovations I admire Tim Cook for his decision to stop the fight with Samsung. This is just way too costly for both companies and the fail for one will mean the other will most likely struggle a lot. Look at what happened for Apple. Their sales for iPhone got lower and the Samsung profit just collapsed for Q1 2019. 60% less the a year before. Which will most likely mean that they will rise up their prices for the next year displays for iPhone and eventually higher costs.

  • You are right, way before iphone came, all phones were dull and comes with quite different form. Some were clamshells, flip-phone, full-buttoned and even slides which prone to mechanical failure. Apple give new life and make bar shape phone more practical in daily use with it's multi-touch function.

    • it was actually LG with their PRADA Phone that came with a multi-touch function first its just that the iPhone copied it (compare the Prada phone with the iPhone 4/S and you'll understand) and LG decided to take no action since they probably realised that it would hurt both companies..... you are right that the iPhone popularised candybar phones with multi-touch, capacative display.

    • The LG PRADA had a keyboard you had to slide down but Apple made it a full multi touch phone so I think Apple is superior but the LG did have the multitouch first.

I love Samsung and Apple the same, and I used to use Samsung but I switched to iPhone because of my Samsung phone becoming terribly slow.
