  • The applause Richard Gere got was...well, let's just say that I somewhat respect him for his artistry but John Malkovich is so ridiculously talented and completely understated, bringing a level of such emotional depth (or lack thereof) to his characters that it's surprising neither the crowd, nor Graham focused on his achievements more than they actually did. Not to mention he has an amazingly intriguing voice.

    • Völundr Frey That may be well enough true. I generally love Graham Norton - when he's NOT trying to be funny. I'm not a fan of his slapstick comedy during the intros and sometimes he shows pictures of people, making comments that are just down right offensive, and I think it's tasteless of him. But when he's just talking with guests and cracks a joke, I tend to find those actually pretty funny. Beyond that, I've never taken much notice of the audience to be honest.

But you get the odd one or two who just don't feel comfortable with it, Gere been one and them type of guests do ruin it and make it impossible to watch. He's known to be bit of a dick and he came off as one on this. Even Robert De Niro, who's known not to be the easiest interview, has been on the show a couple of times and has a good time. Surprised this is Saoirse only time on Graham's show, hopefully she be back on 2018 with Lady Bird's release in the U.K. The two big actors he's yet to have on his show, have been Leo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy, Hardy's been on Alan Carr a load of times and Jonathan Ross too, yet no Norton appearance bit strange as he seems up for a laugh.

  • Never figured Gere for someone who’d be so full of himself. From walking in in that slow motion to walking into the audience to cosying up in the lap of a woman - even if she was delighted to have him in her lap - to petting the Saoirse to making the whole show about himself - when there is a far more accomplished actor sitting on the same sofa, and when he is the only one who is not an Oscar nominee on that sofa - it’s just one big disappointment watching this man. I don’t think Nights in Rodanthe will ever be the same. Oh well, it will be. There’s Diane Lane in it.

    • I liked Richard Gere’s performances in such films as “Bloodbrothers,” “American Gigolo,” and “An Officer and a Gentleman.” I remember seeing a news report on the death of a prominent actor in NYC. I believe it was a story on the great Lauren Bacall’s death. Anyway, the tv need crew was filming celebrities as they were entering the funeral home for Ms. Bacall’s wake. Richard Gere comes down the street, dressed very casually in a sports coat, jeans and no tie, kind of bopping and kvelling before he entered the funeral home. I thought he seemed to be somewhat affected and even flippant, considering the sad nature of the event. And, yes, Richard did seem very creepy in his physical contact with the young and lovely Saoirse Ronan on “The Graham Norton Show.” No wonder, she shifted so noticeably away from Richard Gere and towards the likable and more gentlemanly John Malkovich. Seeing Richard Gere almost caressing Ms. Ronan on this show, reminds me of seeing an American president caressing young women and even young girls. Truly an infamita, as the sage Vito Corleone would say in disgust

So I know all about society's way of looking at "inappropriate attention" from an older man. The years we had together was a bliss, and I dare say for us both. It was her younger friends who in the end told her "no you can't be in a relationship with an older man" that very much made it end. That is TRUE meddling and messing where they have no business at all.

  • For anyone debating the Richard Gere Saoirse moment, she was asked about it on a local Irish Radio interview and all she said was “there was a lot of back rubbing” then she side-stepped the hosts convo about how he’d just split with his young Brazilian wife at the time then said “yeah there was a lot of back rubbing... it was fine”. She also mentioned that Malkovich and Gere were already in the Green room, in deep convo, when she arrived so she didn’t go in and interrupt. Therefore she didn’t know either person, the only actor she did complement was John on the radio interview, and she did kind of intimate the “lot of back rubbing” was odd for her. I thought maybe he was talking to John behind her back, maybe fixing her top, maybe wanted to get her attention about something, but all she walked away from that interview aware of was that a man she did not know was rubbing her back a lot. That’s just not ok people. When you add the very confident, somewhat as* attitude towards even the host, it comes across aggressive not just unaware

  • 8:12 Saoirse pity giggles as John,Graham and the audience openly laughs at Gere's story 8:19 She says "but you are probably talented the most because you didn't get nominated?" 8:22 Graham "oh, you look at that. Every cloud. Every cloud." Richard smiles and looks at Graham, the audience and then Saoirse. She makes a smiling impish frown one does as a child caught being cute but doesn't want to be seen as such. 8:27 Graham "but then, but feel - Saoirse, you were 13, *13 years old* , when you were nominated 8:30 Gere literally feels Saoirse's back 8:31 Saoirse rigidly nods with a curt " mm" and eyes squint 8:35 she's nodding, eyes close, blink and then opens looking at Graham 8:38 Graham "pop on your frock off you go" ; she gives a short laugh 8:52 Saoirse scratches her side. Speculation could say she's irritated or she was just now itchy. Throughout the video, Saoirse sat closer and leaned more toward John. I also noticed that Richard doesn't go near her voluntarily after Taylor's performance. We can imagine that he was warned. However, she is the only one that can say whether she felt offended or victimized. My money is on Saoirse. She's Irish and has had martial arts training. She can fuck anyone up that tried to push her. I can say what I would feel like in her situation but that would be my feelings and not hers. I don't like being touched without my consent but I also take into consideration others intent 25%.

  • Loved S in The Lovely Bones, as for John he is one of the finest actors out there. Love every film he has been in. Compelling in Dangerous Liasons especially. Neither were given enough air time, which was rather insulting.

  • You can obviously see how Richard Gere is just sopping up the attention. Both Saoirse and John seem a bit underwhelmed by Geres antics. I feel a bit of cringe from looking at this because I honestly came here for Saoirse and john, Richard was an added bonus for the first five minutes.

    • This is such a weird mix, because John seems like the most stuck up guy and yet he is so humble and a great story teller. On the other hand you would think Richard is charming, but he has a terrible memory, he is off putting, and he is too full of himself and boring at story telling,

    • I thought he was a bit drunk ( maybe ) but then his creeping on Saoirse was too UGGH! For me to handle, I love how John interviews though, kind of like a proper interview but down toned. I just think Gere is strange now.
