Darrin Cook of Big Stick Combat reviews Cold Steel's Brooklyn Shorty.
Пікірлер
The Brooklyn Shorty is great as a fish dispatching bat for saltwater anglers. It's plastic so it never rusts, it's heavy enough to take out the fish in one blow, and yet it floats in case you lose it overboard.

ZGB did a test on the Brooklyn Shorty. With one hit it could kill someone. Id like to see a hammer handle do that.

to be fair, maybe not good for your fighting style, but certainly effective as a weapon for a style that works with it....especially with somebody with only basic fighting skills.

It seems like this would be quite good for just having something small to carry around to protect yourself.

Too heavy? How can that be? It weighs barely 500g? Or the same weight as a small soda bottle? I have wooden bats who are heavier

The Cold Steel eskrima stick is excellent. See my review of that, not to mention all the Cold Steel knives I've endorsed.

I completely agree. I keep a hickory tomahawk handle next to me at home all the time. The right weight and just enough reach and a defined edge on one side of it.

The plus is that is says "Cold Steel Athletics" Unbreakable baseball bat. So in reality... it is a baseball bat, intended for recreational use. Its a portable, recreation item great for vacations.

Hey not trying to offend but your review on the cold steel bat was totally your own opinion. It's not too heavy to swing with one arm, I'm not even your size either

good as a weapon.

It's Great for Indian Club Swinging & Amazing for the Kenpo "Club" Set ! Perfect for strength development, so I don't believe it's to heavy. It's like, if you can kick high you can kick low concept. You get used to the weight. I use it also for Pekiti Tirsia solo practice on a heavy bag. Great Workout.

I agree. As strength training or form training, this would be a good tool.

I hear what you're saying .... I have escrima sticks that are made of rattan which is about as light as you can get them. I imagine that if I had one in my car and had to use it against a road-rager, it would be for pain compliance techniques 'cause getting hit with something lighter tends to be painful but not too destructive, you know what I mean? So the reason I actually do have a Cold Steel Brooklyn Shorty in my car is because although I might not be able to swing it quite as fast, it is going to hit a lot harder. If I lay it against an attacker's knee, it would be the last time he did any walking or standing up on his own for a while. An elbow or wrist or hand strike would break bone for sure, rendering that entire limb useless. Amazing how fast the fight goes out of someone who's wrist or knee just got shattered. But you are right about the Cold Steel Escrima Stick ... that thing is just too damn heavy.

It's not too heavy, just requires a different skill set and physiology to wield effectively. Bats come in various shapes, weights, sizes, as do all tools of war. How is this one too heavy, but the fungo bat, which is the same weight, the perfect weight? If your too weak to wield a weapon, get stronger. Don't complain about its heft. An asp Baton is even heavier than the hammer handle or the shorty bat, but you carry it and nunchaku. And a bat is a type of club and not all bats are a two handed affair. A stick is a type of club as well.

+Jonathan Chark The fungo bat is a two-handed weapon.
@BigStickCombat8 жыл бұрын
So, what happens when you have to use it with one hand? One mind, any weapon.
@jonathanchark52918 жыл бұрын
As GM Giron said, the ideal stick is the "heaviest one that can be wielded with one hand." Generally wield the bat with one hand, 2 if necessary. The ideal weight for a shorter, 1-handed weapon without the reach is less.
@BigStickCombat8 жыл бұрын
He's correct. It's a little heavy and slow for a one-hander, and using a baston is way more effective. Still bought one, though, because I got a good deal on it. Just throw a little variety into my collection.

I do not know how I feel about cold steel in general. I got a little mini bat, about 17" and light here... works well, plus it has a curve to it. I can wield it just as well as my Esrkima stick.

+FeaturedPixel I wouldn't carry around a handle or a mini bat. This for me is the problem of traditional eskrima. For an impact weapon, I have an ASP and a mini nunchaku that I carry on a regular basis.

Yeah I guess you're right man but, It certainly would be bad ass if you pulled one of those shorty's put of the back of you pants in a fight
