if you're gonna carry a bat in your car it's probably a good idea to throw a glove and ball with it as well, at least here in Canada, the authorities don't like us protecting ourselves
Hoots McNabb same in the USA . It's a good idea to have a glove and ball. The crazy thing is you could drive around in TX with a gun in your car with little to no issue but if you have a bat within reach and no good excuse you could be charged.
A breaker-bar and a socket for your lug-nuts is a good one ;)

If you have a bat in the car, make sure you have a ball and glove... Makes any possible explanations with legal authorities easier. Gee, officer, I sometimes play baseball and I like to have my equipment with me. :)

Hey I remember someone telling me this you should put a sock over your bat incase someone grabs it you can slip the bat out and hit them or something like that

Or wrapped in barbed wire , install sharp spikes to it or mount part of a carbide tipped saw blade to it.
Zgb tested spiked bats are Crap the nails or screws weaken the wood and fall off after use and are dangerous to the user and splits the bat rendering it useless

LOL. Too funny. If you haven't seen the new Lego Batman movie don't bother. It's theme is "It takes a village' and the point of the whole thing is Batman learning not to be a loaner and to be more social and team oriented. It was OK funny though, not as funny as the Lego movie but still funny. These days they are bound and determined to destroy all the male archetypes in movies.

You talking about the bat bouncing back gave me flashbacks. Once in JR High we lost all our baseballs and decided to try a socker ball with a bat and I went first. Hit a Homer but the bat bounced back and shattered my cheekbone and orbital. I had to spend the summer in an eyepatch and my vision was never the same until I got Lasik two years ago.

Really cool experiment! I played softball and I always hated that vibration from the bat that makes your hands hurt. And I never expected any of them to go through a concrete block.

Cold Steel Polypropylene bats are the best. Go with the Cold Steel Bats. The polypropylene bats are completely resistant to the elements and weather too.

Good reviews! I had not really considered the potential differences between the metal vs. wood. vs. plastic. I'd probably go with the metal bat if given the choice. Then again the wood bat is the only one you can add some big nails to for that perfect post-apocalyptic look.

Fun tests with interesting results. Thanks for the video. Just a couple things to keep in mind about bats for home defense. A bat is one of the easiest weapons to defend against, and there is an issue with clearance in the house (as you mentioned).
Yes I have many many things I would grab before a bat for home defense, I just did this video as a result of the conversation I had with my friend; I wanted to find out which is best. In fact I didn't actually even own any of the bats before I got them for this video, except the Cold Steel "shorty".

I want a couple of the mini Brooklyn crushers, or an aluminum tee-ball bat. Smaller is better, faster at face to face combat and you can use it one handed

Have a metal trainer bat, thinner than a regular bat, but real quick to swing one or two-handed. Dunno if it would go through concrete, but pretty sure it'd damage a skull okay.

I recently ordered the Smasher from Amazon; expecting it to arrive tomorrow. I figured it’s the safest bet to avoid suspicion from the authorities over the smaller ones. Next to the Banshee, it’s the closest in size to a league regulation bat. Any cop will know you didn’t buy the 24” Brooklyn Basher to hit a few balls around.

I get my bats and golf clubs from goodwill and thrift stores for the price of one retail I have one for each car and front and back door. They are inexpensive and expendable, if it's lost, stolen or confiscated you are only out a few bucks and there are plenty more at the thrift store. This is the same mindset of why I carry >$10 Amazon knives. The fear is generated by the object not the cost or quality of it.

my dad has a smaller bat for thumping his tires..then again he DOES drive a big rig so yeah..kicking the tires on an 18 wheeler isn't really a good indication of how full of air they are.

The biggest factor in using a bat for self-defense will be whether you can make hits at all. In a home defense scenario, the chances of your being able to wind up and swing are going to be small. You're going to be hitting walls, furniture, and other things if you try to take a real swing. A bat brings some intimidation factor, but if the intruder has any kind of weapon and any skill using that weapon, you're likely to lose. The intruder would have a good chance of parrying with almost anything at hand and would then be able to strike you before you could wind up for a second swing. For instance, if the intruder has a crowbar and a knife, the intruder can block your swing with the crowbar and stab you before you can defend in any way. Even if the intruder doesn't stop your swing completely, he can deflect enough of the swing to keep from being badly hurt. Then, he can hurt you with anything in his other hand while you have both hands on the bat.

3 years late but if you want to test bounciness you'd have to smash something solid like a big rock, a wall or something and not something you can smash through. I'd love to see that as well as a durability test.

the blocks for the other two was breaker blocks...went to be broke in half. ..the one for the wood block was a solid. ..don't know how mutch difference it made...but the wood bat hat to work harder on the block for sure...

TheLordHumungus I think that if you hold the bat at the correct upward angle , the shot would all run down to the handle at your hands and make the far end lighter , then as you swing the shot moves up to the far end as you are swinging and in theory it could also increase momentum but also the kinetic energy delivered at impact when its motion stops. The advantage would be it would be easier to start the swing and the shot would multiply the force as you follow through verses starting up the swing with a heavy bat and follow through. I'm thinking the result would be quicker and more damage,

Don't use a bat for home defense. Use a large knife. I live in Germany and since I'm not allowed a gun I actualy have a Sword :-D

Bruce Wayne He can own a sword but not legally carry it in public, where as guns are straight up illegal to even own unless you have specific licenses. Bit different but here in the UK it’s a bit similar, can own swords and certain knives but if you’re caught carrying them it’s a criminal offense (ballisong is illegal to own in anyway for some dumb reason switchblades too) but if you’re caught with a gun you’re fucked, 5 years minimum in prison. We need specific licenses/be in a gun club to own them and even then you can’t own a 9mm, restricted to .22 rifles, black powder pistols/antiques and shotguns that can only hold a maximum of 3 shells. Last thing is even if you legally own a gun here you need to store the gun in a safe at all times and store the ammunition in a separate safe, (the police do random checks on gun owners) so it would be almost impossible to get to the gun and ammo in time in home defense. Oh but if you did manage it and then actually shot and killed the intruder it’s considered excessive force and basically murder. Our laws are ridiculous tbh.

A security telemarketer called me one time about investing in a home security system. One of the questions he asked me was if I thought I needed one. I replied I didn't need one. I'm not sure I believe that. The material they are made out of doesn't 'break' like that. It might melt, flatten, gouge, etc, but you aren't going to get it to break into pieces swinging it by hand into pretty much anything. And if it somehow is true I would contact them, I bet they would replace it.
TheLordHumungus it did. This was a few years ago when I was in my mall ninja phase. I whacked a brick with some mortar still on it and it broke both the brick and bat. It almost looked like I took a chainsaw and cut the head off at an angle. Inside it has a lot of holes. It almost looks like a sponge. I was so pissed that I didn't even try to get a refund.
weird, sounds like some kind of defect in the construction, they're supposed to be solid. There is definitely no way I could break this thing by hand.
