I decided to test Squeaky Dog Toys on RC Cars to see it they make a good Tire!

For some reason I can't comment but you deffo need to put them on the low rider with the hydraulics
Probably need some smaller ones
Slower because higher rolling friction. That’s why they use Slicks on dry days, lowest rolling friction.
@@TomleyRC bigger wheel means higher top end speed available but also a higher torque required for the acceleration and to keep the speed. The motors can only supply a limited amount of torque. That means that for the mass of the vehicle there is an optimal axle to tire size ratio for the specific motors you have. If the tire size gets too large, the available torque will not be able to get the vehicle to a higher speed. If you decide to go with more powerful motors, you also can't forget that different motors have different design speeds as well.
This is the kind of scientific research I come here for 😂
Haha.. the pleasure is mine 😅
I find it somewhat dogmatic... 🤭🤫
The random squeak coming from some landings was funny af
Yes. So funny 🤣
Need to try a heavier truck to see if you can achieve maximum squeak. 😀
Hahah that’s genius 😂
That’s my post you saw and my pic you used here. Glad you used it and loved the idea as much as I did lol.
Awesome… thanks for the idea! It worked so well haha. Glad you’ve not got upset like a certain someone who did the same on a crawler. 😅
@@TomleyRCwho got upset?😂
Genius stuff!
Love it gentlemen, I don’t understand why people get butthurt over things like that, it’s a blast of a hobby and we all give each other ideas and make funner! Thank you both❤
@TomleyRC now you’ve given idea to squeaky wheel manufacturers - new price will be X10 😂
I can’t believe how good these did everywhere, especially on the crawler.
Pet supplies store: this isnt an RC car shop. this is a pet store the hell?
One slight issue is that any dog within a mile radius is gonna go apeshit at the sound of the car! 😂
that is a plus side i would say
@@bowi73 Our dog was looking where the squeaking came from when you did it with your hands. Our old dog would have ripped the squeakers out within 5 minutes, they never lasted long with her and she was only a Bichon Frise.
We had a greyhound that went absolutely nuts when we encountered RC cars on a walk. Never saw him more excited about anything in his life. Squeaky toy RCs would have had him out of his mind with excitement.
@@williamreinhard We had a dog years ago that liked to chase my Control line planes around, not bothered when they were on the ground, similar to one of the dogs now who will try and chase my Radio Control planes again only while in the air. Seems to think she can get to the Red Kites that fly round here even if at 300 feet plus.
@@DelDredd ngl, my grandma had one of those, and they can be ferocious!
There's a fine line between madness and genius. I believe you are tip-toeing one legged, down that line. Madness.
I’ll take either 😅
Rc guru is a very good friend of mine and he never ceases to amaze. Never a dull moment lol.
I promise you, as a 1 legged individual tip toeing one legged is almost impossible never mind trynna hop side to side over the line! 😂😂
I think you’re onto an absolute winner of a video idea here Tomley! Great work
Thanks dude
@@TomleyRCfor future ideas, i think nail clippers would work a little better, if not quicker to cut each individual spike off
Thanks for that. My dog goes nuts at my rc cars. Now he's seen his squeaky doughnut on your trucks on the tv he's gone totally mad 😂!
pet shops: why are we suddenly sold out of dog toys? Can't keep those things in stock! hahahah
The stonks 📈
😂worked better than some brands they sell on eBay!!
Yes haha
Honestly from brushless floor mops,to squeaky dog tyres...whatever goes on in there, keep it coming!!
You made me spit coffee out my nose, Thanks Phil. I'd buy a pair, especially if they squeak. Was baffled when they performed better on the traction test in the shop.
Probably due to the rubber being a lot softer than standard tires. If you have played with any knobbly rubber toys you should know that there is a bit of flex in the knobs. But as we can clearly see, they will slip on smooth surfaces.
The added visibility is quite nice as well, could easily add a strip of LEDs inside and make them glow
The self lighting ones like in kids scooters would be a chefs kiss
You need the Big Bully Breed Donut squeaky toys and put them on a 1/8 scale heavy machine. It will then really squeak. That just sounded like a random mouse fart. 😂
"Random mouse fart" what on earth are you feeding them?😂🐦.
I must do some research 😅
This is exactly what I've been trying to find for years. An RC tire that doesn't need an insert. One piece. J concepts and proline are going to see this and build them now haha. Awesome video
If they were painted black and then when the tread wears it pokes out purple dots. Thatd look sweet
I would have to prank them black also😅
This looks and feels like something straight outta scrap mechanic, I love this. Might need to grab a kit and do this.
This was fun to watch and amazing how well they worked on the TRX4. I would love to see a video where you show up at a crawling outing with the dog toy tires. I am sure your friends would get a good laugh. You may have invented a new racing a crawling class. Great video.
Funny thing is while they might not have as much surface area width wise the little nubs are fairly soft so they can splay out and get a better grip
Never have I seen an RC car go that fast in my life. It's awesome. The dog toy tires are pretty amusing to hear whenever it lands on the ground.
Never a out of control dog when you need one but loads when you dont, lol
This is the coolest rc car videos ive watched. Never had hobby rc cars before but yours blow the Tyco ones i had in the 90s out the water. Great video and filmography
Ha, makes a bit of a mockery of real rc tyres costing so much. Great entertainment as always, lol. Thanks for sharing. John
It's slower because if you take the radious, devide by the diameter, subtract the gear ratio and plus 3.14159 for the circumference = Me not having the faintest idea what im on about!
Acetone removes superglue, for next time then you dont have to ruin your hoodie.
Your laughing is infectious. Cheered me up no end.
🎉🥳🤩 I wanna this as a "new" tread pattern for tires in 1.9 and 2.2!!! But in black ) Maaaaaaaaan!!!!!!!😍
I didn't expect them to work as well as they did. The drive shaft breakage at the end was perfect. It means you had a good time out IMO.
First thing I did was glance across to my crawler!! Gotta try this
I am genuinely surprised they hooked up at the skate park enough to pull wheelies. Well done Phill, and the odd squeak really added to the video.
As for it being slower, it has way more rotating mass to spin up with the weight of the dog toys
@@Seegster77 you saying if you filled your daily drivers tyres with concrete (or any material of your choosing) that it would still hit the same top speed?
@@Seegster77 ah yes, the train, with an engine and drivetrain designed to move the amount that a train weighs... do you have a degree in engineering? Or physics? Because i do 😅 google rotational mass and youll see exactly what im talking about, whydo you think race teams spend so much money on developing lighter wheels, to reduce rotational mass/load, meaning increased acceleration and less drivetrain loss, meaning more top speed
I used to Race RC inside on a smooth floor. we used to add fine silicone spikes to our tyres to get grip. when the spikes flex you get more contact.
I want to see these with glittering lights in the wheels too LOL
Me too.🐦.
Of all your awesome videos i've watched that has to be one of your best. Had me in stitches with the basher. One thing you didn't seem to pick up on though. There was hardly any ballooning of those tyres especially on the Rustler. Wonder if I can get some big enough for the Talion on Kraton 6s? 🤣
i have been chuckling at this idea all day. Good lord. Thanks for making the work day bearable!
Maybe the original tires, once ballooned, are actually a larger diameter than the squeeky toys, causing lower top speed ???
My boys and I really enjoyed the morning craft time with Phil. That was an awesome and hilarious way to start our day. Thanks for that!!
Haha.. ‘Morning Craft with Phil’ could be a whole new series 😅
@@TomleyRC It'll be a huge hit! Who wouldn't want to learn how to bedazzle a lexan body from you?
My dogs already chase my Rc can’t imagine what would happen if i had dog toys for tire . Enjoy your content very much 😊
This is neat. I've got a friend that's always tinkering with RC cars, and I'm definitely going to show him this.
Small contact patch is not necessarily worse. Why I run "tall skinny" tires on the prado
That off roads amazingly with the dog toy tyres on
Looked so good on the bronze wheels with the black truck
the sliding effect is the same principle as knobbly motorbike AG tyres on a road surface instead of the offroad use they were intended, the tips of the knobs walk the tyre sideways(tho on a bike it usually means wipeout)
The last one with the driveshaft keeps happening to me too. I have a bandit converted to brushless with a 2250kv motor and stock gearing frim tha brushed one
Keeping RC fun! Nice one Phil, love you stuff dude 👏🏼
The back up speed run spot looks a bit dodgy lol good fun dude cheers
Hmm? Would these stand up to high speed runs.... Next test please Tomley
Genius, I'd like to see what they are like at high speeds! You may need to use a wide road though. 😂
Absolutely one of the best videos I’ve ever watched. The cartwheel squeaks were the funniest.
This is my new favorite video of yours! well done, sir! 😆
Oh I love this lol gonna have to make a set for my rustler now
That thing would be crazy in the snow Especially a larger scale crawler
OMG, I have to do this! My huskies love chasing the RC cars, this will blow their mind 🤣
Haha
Epic cyclones with the Rustler!
I got covered in plastic lol
Now this is a real scientific test. Love the colour choice. Brilliant stuff
Only done this on real trucks for the crawler part. What I did notice is the tall skinny tires I ran did allot better at climbing than my wider knobby tires.
I love it when a plan comes together 😊
This is the high quality content I look to you for right here!
Just for the record a smaller contact patch always means more grip unless you're running sticky tires on a prepped track
I wuz just thinking that exact same question!.. Big Tommerz answering the questions of the Masses..Bravo!😂
Doing the Lords Work
that was. funny as hell. haha. surpised they worked better than some of my more expensive tires. lol
Brilliant Embedding finished product As part of different more valuable one
Okay… those would be hilarious on a crawler tumbling down from a a rollover… I need to do this at a comp! 🤣🤣🤣
"this is funniest thing I've ever done" - strong Sam Pilgrim vibe there :D
i mean the toys are essentially high-grade mud tires with all those spikes they have, not surprised they handle that well. Good stuff!
i like your max 90's! recent model or impossible to get? Wonder what you think of the Rlaarlo Omni! That crash looked like a proper slayer, i'd personally feel like it would be allright as long as nothing else broke along with the control arm. Although i might expect a bent hinge pin.
I absolutely love this XD. This is the best RC mod of all time.
I Love it I watch every upload thank you so much for continuing to do these videos
Speed reduction can be a torque thing, but it could also be the added energy needed to fling that air as those spikes are massive air paddles
I had a good laugh at this one! Love the creative builds. It's real engineering playtime 😂
I think you found something new dude I might actually make some it just seems like the spikes are all around the tire so it has grip everywhere awesome video
The bounce reminds me of John from The Grand tour that truck they had to build
Proud moment when I saw Tye wearing your hoodie on the flat bed video of Cleetus’ , hope you got some new viewers from it.
Yeah, I sent him it a while back, and he sent some of his to me... I told him I'll owe him money if he keeps advertising it haha
In dirtbiking we use soft tires on hard terrain and hard tires on soft terrain. Seems like a good idea on RC as well
That's it I'm getting a crawler n putting dog toy tyres on it! Love the squeaks 😂
RC tire manufacturers hate that trick 😂
One of the most entertaining vids Ive seen and holy smokes talk about performance!!!!! How about some with lights like the ones on the early 2000’s scooters? 🤣
You made my morning! Brilliant Sir!
This is great research - and I noticed that once they're covered in mud, they stop looking goofy, till you glimpse a bright orange inner sidewall... I would like to see how the Rustler does on a nice dry beach with sand dunes along the edge, like that one you cleaned, Phil, with a Summit (?) towing a big trailer.
Yes, I thought about the beach... maybe this Science experiment needs more work!
@@TomleyRC They performed so well that it might be worth revisiting this idea next time you find yourself needing to go somewhere near a beach.
When it bounces around and squeaks, it reminds me of the meme with the little person dropping into the water and making the drip sound. 😂
What about wheel wideners for better steering? Thanks for sharing bro!!!
Weirdly the lower contact patch actually probably helped with that initial slope test. Putting a lot of pressure through minimal points, so the contact point has more dig in.
It's kind of fitting that those are the metal wheels that you got with the Rlaarlo AM-X12 for being one of the first 100 orders :D
5:13 🐭 🐭 🐭 HAHHAHA! OMG!!!! the squeeking!!!! that was hilarious XD
Hell yeah brother! I thought I was watching Cleetus drive a Rustler for a minute. I was just waiting on the Traxxas to break before the dog toys gave up.
Need to try these again af u DUALLY all 4 up!
I wonder, if the reduced contact patch means the tires experience higher ground pressure in this application, and thus that plus the softer rubber of the dog toy is why they appear to have so much better grip
I wonder if you could use this material for speedrun tires & how they would hold up?
Dunno if its gonna be statistically viable but I kinda want to see more of these kinds of vids from you. It looks really fun for some reason 😆
The moment of inertia must be pretty high on those. No wonder it back-flips so well. On a chassis where those wheels would have full movement would be very interesting.
Curious to know the cost difference between the RC Tires vs. the Squeaku Toys. Also wondering how long until someone starts marketing similar tire for the RCs
The toys have higher friction on the tarmac than rubber tyres, which will reduce the speed, and obv. as you said the ratio has changed which should make you faster - BUT only if the motor can continue to deliver the same amount of torque which also very probably it isn't; One thing it's definitely doing is increasing the draw on your ESC and battery.
Wild idea! I think the reason you have so much grip but can slide it around could be due to what mountain bikers call pass through on the tread. Looking at the tread blocks with the wheel facing you if you can see in between the blocks you have more pass through. If you see more tread blocks and less daylight you have less pass through. Most bikes run less pass through up front for grip and more pass through in back to help the rear tire slide. In a straight line no doubt you have plenty of contact. I’m surprised this isn’t an rc tire style with a proper bead.
Great work. Could you glue two of those toys together to increase\double the contact surface. Exactly how you have it now but one wheel glued on to the outside of every wheel
Ok, Phil, you won the internet for today! 😂 But would those "tires" be accepted in competitions? Because, if yes, it's going to be freaking funny! 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
i love the squeeks when it lands lol halarious.
What a great Idea using a skate park. Those wheels are great.
Hi Phil, I really enjoyed that test of dog toy wheels. 😊 And they looked good on the TRX4.👍
More squeaky challenge please. That was hilarious.
I have 1 more idea with them 😅
that made me laugh man. thanks for that
