Reunited: Daughter finds homeless dad online after 20 years - BBC News

2015 ж. 5 Қаз.

Ray Bryant was sleeping rough on the streets of Barking when two of his friends launched a campaign to raise money to help him secure a home before Christmas. By chance, that campaign was seen by 22-year-old Annie in Devon - who realised the man in the photos was her long-lost father. Ray has had a difficult past, spending time in prison as well as battling a drug addiction. He lost contact with his daughter 19 years ago and had not seen her since she was a toddler - until yesterday. Our reporter Jim Reid went to meet them at their reunion.

    • That looked so misplaced because SHE was the one who should have been offering HIM coffee, a seat, and, maybe, a basket full of fruits. SHE is the one with housing, and, apparently, not living in the streets. She is the younger one, and HE is the older one. She came to see her father empty-handed. And don't tell me her heart was full. Full of what?? IF it were so full of that 'love' she talks about, she would have asked him to live with her, and brought him home with her to spend the rest of his days with her. And also, don't say she doesn't have 'accommodations'. Surely, whatever she could offer for accommodations would be better than the streets. Unless she were a university student living in a dorm with room and board, she could have taken her father home with her.

    • anas d c, I grew up with my Dad so never had such experiences. I'm sorry you had to experience that a second time. I do agree with you, my first thought was I'd want to take this man home because he seems so sweet & gentle, but I don't think that is wise. She needs to have time with him, talk to him-why did he skip out on her & her Mom? maybe she's come to terms with it, but yes I think after 20 years it's a good idea to develop the relationship a bit. IMO, if he's getting money for housing, he's been homeless, he has no reason to stay in London, why not get housing at least in the city where his daughter lives to make a real effort to work on their relationship instead of just depending on visits? If I was in her situation and he made that attempt, I'd make more of an effort to help him... with groceries and other needs. I mean it's not like he's working or any reason to stay in London that I can see.

    • If you believe in science then I have an answer for you. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, the fabrics of space and time are interconnected and they simply cannot exist without one another. Before the big bang, there was no space and thus no concept of time. Therefore, we really don't know what caused the big bang and we really can't say what happened before it because the universe was timeless. To ask what came before God does not make sense simply because time is a dimension that existed only when the universe began.

People assume that when someone is living in that condition that they don't care about anything, not even themselves anymore. And yet...here he is meeting his daughter for the first time in years, after years of her not knowing him. He is not wanting her to see him with a mouthful of missing teeth. 😭😭 God Bless the ladies who started this and got the ball rolling for her to find him. • I found my natural mother. She hates me and wants me to be her dirty little secret. She has gotten family to turn their backs on me. It's very clear I am rejected and unloved. I pray one day she does the Christ-like thing and accepts me and let's me get to know my sisters, uncles, and cousins. Nobody deserves to be in the hell I am living in.

    • +yearofthejacquie In Canada, rent is so expensive yet they refuse to have the minimum wage at the level where you don't have to spend your entire paycheck on rent alone. It's so difficult. They have this supposed housing crisis yet they wont re install Rent Control. The government prefers to have control by having low income housing buildings instead of having subsidized housing for everyone (and not just those with children at home).
