'It's out!': Medvedev rages at officials in two different outbursts at Monte Carlo
Daniil Medvedev had two separate outbursts during his Monte Carlo Masters run. During his match against Gaël Monfils he was a set up when he angrily disagreed with two calls on the baseline and vented his displeasure at the line judge.
Umpire Mohamed Lahyani twice came on court to check calls and calm down the Russian fourth seed. Medvedev was 40-15 up but lost his serve and then went 4-1 down in the second set before winning five games in a row to seal a 6-2, 6-4 success and progress to a last-16 meeting with compatriot Karen Khachanov. Medvedev was proved correct both times and after the game, when Lahyani said he would apologise, Medvedev replied: 'How can you apologise, I lost the freaking game. How did I lose the game when it's out? It's out, it's out.'
The next day, during his match against Khachanov, Medvedev was once again upset by officials after a bad line call while he was serving, this was after he hit a double fault losing his serve. Medvedev told the officials to 'open [their] fricken eyes' and questioned who would 'take action' against the bad calls.

how can that be? ball is out and the point is still given? I would be outraged too and twice!
And then he adds salt to the wound by giving him a point penalty lol
Because the umpire called it out. The hawkeye is only tv reference. They don't see it on court.
And the frustrating part is you're not even allowed to vent it out, which actually means, referee is an independent autocrat in tennis. He will commit mistakes and if questioned, he can punish you again but he'll never correct the call even if the replays show otherwise. Ridiculous!!!
@@johncharles2357they did show it on court , Medvedev requested for a Hawkeye replay
@@understandinglife2481 No they did not. There was no challenge request at this tournament. The replay you saw was for tv only.
Don’t know why Hawkeye isn’t instituted at every tournament now, like judges are useless
I guess the idea is that it isn't needed on clay since you can see the mark. Problem is, on close calls it becomes subjective. And sometimes there is more than one mark and not clear which one it is etc.
because they are a clique and they don't wanna loose their jobs due to technology, not just yet
All tournaments will have automatic line calling next year. And, btw, not everything is Hawk-Eye. There are other line calling technologies. Hawk-Eye is a brand. Foxtenn works much better for clay
@@johncharles2357 it's like when people refer to a tablet, any tablet, as "iPad".

Stealing the point from Medvedev and then punishing him for getting angry 🫡
He was behaving like a child, people make mistakes. He will have made many mistakes during this match, no one is screaming at him like this..
@@jt663 stop yapping he's right
@@jt663 All of the clips shown in this video, shows that HE IS RIGHT. Look at this another way in another perspective. Then, you go to the teacher but he said "It's already recorded, there's nothing I can do. You still fail"
@@WeabooMoeYes and if I behaved like this I would be punished, what's your point? My point is that acting like a child is embarrassing
French and Russians never get along.
Medvedev does have a point. There should be repercussions for bad decisions cos it can decide a match. Its a crucial decision.
If so, he should have stopped playing and requested a correction immediately. That’s the rules in pro tennis. You don’t whine and shout and insult the referee 2 minutes later.

Even Monf is perplexed at getting the point lol
So they had hawkeye installed but didn't use it for the calling, only for the broadcast?
Some tournaments like it better the old way with refs making mistakes, lol absurd. Hawkeye has been off once or twice in the past tho, but yeah hawkeye is better 99.99% of the time.
It was literally the next point where the second out call is missed. When the margins on winning and losing at this level are so small, a bad call can cost a player tens of thousands of dollars.
There should be Hawkeye in clay
I heard they will implement some kind of Hawkeye for clay in 2025.
Apparently they have the equipment there... so why not actually use it?
Well I bet Rafa will still keep winning when he's 50, so either way it won't matter. 😅

Medvedev is right in the sense that they have hawkeye but they don't use it and that nobody takes responsibility for f-ups. The ball was out, it's proven but Medvedev still loses the point. And the most useless person in tennis is the supervisor because he will side with the chair umpire no matter what. Under no circumstances will the supervisor ever overrule a decision of the chair umpire. They are just there to say "let's play" and that nothing can be done.
Supervisor handles matters of law/rule. Umpire handles matters of fact during the match. In/Out is a matter of fact, so there isnt anything the supervisor can do with regard to Medvedev's issue. Thats the way it is. Hopefully they start using Hawkeye for Clay events in the future to avoid this drama.
Medvedev is childish brat. He deserved to lose the point

"It's this guy in the glasses. He doesn't need glasses because he doesn't see anything. He should not be a referee." Just so funny.
@@EhCloserLookEven if he is totally right, he can't talk in such a way. Human error is in the cards to affect every player, they know this when they step on the court.

I'm always on Medvedev's side, he argues more but on the right matters. 2:47 that's a bonus 😂
Yes he has right,he lost not a point,set..
In my opinion it is simply not natural for a human to stare at a line and make accurate calls. Machines are of course much better suited to handle this task. Anyone who has been to a live tennis match knows how the heat can be brutal and other distractions like crowd noise, shadows on the court etc., will obviously impact human referees. Also, for serves the ball moves so fast the human eye simply cannot keep up.
I feel for Medvedev. It’s like the entire system is against him. Not cool.
This is a masters event, it is unacceptable to still not have electronic line calling even when there is technology available. And medvedev does have a point, why shouldn't the umpires get penalized when they make a wrong call.
Because it would make finding Umpires difficult or expensive.
@@TheGraemithen the umpire should use the technology to dbl check and not leaving doubts. 😅
@@impopquiz If he is allowed to. Maybe that he is not. Tournaments organizer can decide that. That's why there is the tournaments supervisor. The supervisor is the tournaments representative while the umpire upholds the games rules.
The empire shouldn't be penalized in my opinion. It is his job and he can make a mistake just like a player can do a double fault, miss a smash, etc. Players need to do a ton of mistakes to get penalized, not missing or two balls. On the other hand, all atp tournaments should replace refs for the halkeye tech. So in my opinion, tournaments organizers are the responsible ones.
Every tournament will be automatic line calls as of 2025
Fantastic. Then there will never be a wrong call since the robot I will never fail. You see a mark on the court which says otherwise? You´re wrong. Robot I is allways right. Powers that be can fully control who wins and loses then, no more Serbians or Russkies winning big tiltles. Gorgeous!!!

Medvedev's reaction is justified and he has a valid point. How can the umpire miss a call which was so obvious and on such an important point. This happened to him yesterday, too. Why do umpires never make errors against Sinner and Alcaraz.

just put in Hawkeye already. This is tennis. A point like that will absolutely flip a match. Stakes are too high. Embarrassing.
You know the hilarious part??? It’s already installed. Just not using it officially.
Lahyani is absolutely blind. He just says the same thing now anytime there is a ball anywhere near the "it went like this and caught the line" even when you can see CLEARLY see the ball mark is not touching the line at all. Pause the video at :31 seconds. Clear as day the round is nowhere near the line. Fire Lahyani this is outrageous.
So you are saying you can see from a video replay on KZhead better than him when he is actually there? Okay
What do you want? The ref wears sunglasses during the match 😢
Yeah, he is annoying, but his worst mistake here is not to give a warning to the player.
@@peace4myheartof course one can better judge it from KZhead, where you can stop a video where needed and play it back and forth.

It's OUT Ok danni 😅
Even Monfils was surprised they gave him the point after verifying it was out. Meddy was pretty frustrated but I understand this is a game but also the players main source of income. Hope they fix this moving forward.
Gael thought they would replay the point, but Layani was right - if a player challenges a call and stops playing, and it turns out it was in, he loses the point.
The people who said that “he’s rude” or “he overreacted” are people who have really never played a sport a day in their lives 😂 I’ve seen players react more harshly than this at a high school level
Empairs are disaster.
Nise speling
Man I’ve said so many times that there needs to be challengeable Hawkeye on clay, just like there is for every other major tournament. This reminded me of the 2013 RG semi final match between Djokovic and Nadal when Djokovic had break point against Nadal. Djokovic’s shot was called out, but the replay of Hawkeye said it was in, so I’ve always found it ridiculous that there’s never been the option to use Hawkeye as a challenge on clay, cos sometimes the ball marks can be deceiving and not always be right as seen here.
sure interpretation of ball marks can be subjective. but they are still very physical evidence, whereas hawkeye is a triangulated calculation with a few millimeters margin of error. so i think it should be the other way round on clay. general use of hawkeye, but with the option of challenging hawkeye calls and having umpires check the mark ;)
He overreacted, but the umpire and linesmen did not do their job.
Yeah yeah the same answer every time. "He overreacted" imagine getting a B on a test where you had 100%, but the teacher made a mistake, and it can not in any way be corrected. Not only that, but since you got the B and not the A that you were supposed to hve, it messed up your ratio in order to be approved to enter a prestigious college. Yeah, i would be mad too, and will most likely have an outburst.
Overreacted to being cheated lol. Whatever.
Not an overreaction had he face a player of his caliber that is equal to him that point would be critical in either winning or losing
@@pooolish334 So what do you suggest ? Where to draw the line. Overrule the rules ? But when ? What circumstances ?

Why cant they just reply the point rather than giving the opponent the point?
even I could see it was out and I am in Australia
There is more to this rant than meets the eye. This is the accumulated frustration brought on by losing the Aussie Open final when up two sets to love. This is the frustration of knowing that his window is likely closing with the ascendance of Alcaraz and Sinner. Still, this is the moment when Medvedev needs to dig down mentally and physically and find a new gear. It starts with NOT freaking out about line calls.
The ball is out. And he lose the point. The ball is out again. He lose a second point. He complain. He lose a third point. HE CANNOT WIN IF IT'S RIGGED.

What was wrong with the second call?
If I understood correctly, he stopped playing because the ball was out and the linesperson didn't make the call. Lahyani had to intervene.

It's 2024 folks--we have Hawkeye. Use it! Monte Carlo is a joke tournament. At least 3 very costly bad calls against Meddy. Can't win that way....Shame on the ATP for letting this joke of a tournament be called a Masters 1000 event----maybe 1000 missed calls! Unbelievable.

C’è un disegno mondiale contro ogni cittadino Russo, e questo mi dà una tristezza immensa
Why he got point penalty at the end?
He should complain but in a professional manner. Daniil expects zero mistakes from others but is surplisingly complacent with himself. Not losing his temper is part of his responsibilities.
I opened my freaking eyes ... it is out now
The technology , that would get rid of all these types of situations, is available but tournaments don’t want to spend the money (which is ridiculous) and it also creates drama, which creates viral moments which creates buzz…

It's Ouuuttttt 😂
The amount of money that's involved at these levels, I totally agree with him. I would have acted the exact same way!
I've been saying this for years. If you want umpires, that's fine by me. But they should be fined for every wrong call they make that isn't overturned by a challenge. Electronic Line calling is still somewhat difficult to implement on clay, but they should still use whatever they have to aid their final judgment.
Ha ragione.Quando ci vuole ,ci vuole.
Meddy is funny even when he's raging, there's seriously nothing to dislike about the dude 😂🤣
If only there was some technology which can track the ball accurately…
I feel yah, Dani. I feel yah. 🤨
Daniil has improved his behavior and temperament in the last 2 years. even when he has to serve, when the public does not remain silent, he does so, which is one of the key moments. but in these situations i understand your anger
Giusto un Pierluigi Collina potrebbe domarlo 🤣
А судьи кто?
He shouldn’t be raising his voice about the physio but The Guardian also shouldn’t be cropping out Medvedev apologising to the physio before he has a go at the umpire to make it look worse than it is.
Yep, Daniil went out of control a bit too far, loosing his menthal focus, which caused him a match agnst Karen. That was his anger management problem obviously. But lack of any clear responsibility for linesmans and other officials mistakes (often crucial) - absolutely reasonable. Atp must implement obligatory video control systems for all 500+ tournaments and some new rules, so that you always get your point back, if challenge proves your call. And some transparent system of material fines, suspension and anticorruption investigations for judges involved in such controversial bad decision cases.
TENNIS MATCHES SHOULD ORGANIZED BY AUTO CAMERA CHECK.....
😢
Need AI referee to call the match
Just put sensor on lines SIMPLES!!!
it's out
He was absolutely right, twice
ok lets introduce a new electric tape for line accuracy that lights up on the court exactly where the ball hits the line and has zoom in options for the judge and crowd to see to prevent corrupt calls and allow proper alignment and order for athletes, this is a new idea I'm putting out there, who's interested? The tape would light up temporarily for playback purposes and fadeout pretty quickly, allowing for obvious distinction between a foot mark or ball mark as it would copy the indentation exactly to the pattern and placement.
It does not look pretty but I can understand Daniil frustration .. where is the hawk eye ?
