  • These highlights are crazy. They show the accurate level of play between Dimitrov and Rublev

  • Compared to Hubi’s 76 minute Polish pounding of Korda, this was the REAL SF match we deserved. Ruby shines bright & demolishes Dimi in under 2 hours with a straight sets 7-6 (9-7) 6-3 victory. 1st serves in, 1st serves won, & break points won Ruby the match. “Believe in yourself! Stay calm! Let me see the footwork. It doesn’t matter if you lose [the point]. Then bend your knees! ” Ruby’s coach said so many encouraging words & I think it paid off. Ruby was much more focused in the 2nd set. 1st Set: The sixth game was where things got really fierce. Ruby held serve & saved multiple break points to level things at 3 all. Undeterred Dimi held serve 4-3 & 5-4 but they really made each other work. At 5 all, 1st set tiebreakulosis was likely. Dimi’s dangerous doubt fault on serve rewarded Ruby with the break for a 6-5 lead. Grigor indeed recovered to cough up 1st set TB. 1st Set Tiebreakdown: Ruby gained the early lead & managed to hang on at 4-2. Moving forward enabled Ruby to maintain a crucial 5-3 lead, but Dimi wasn’t done. Even after leveling things to 5 all & 6 all, Gangrene wasn’t home free. At 7-6, Ruby ranted & raged to level things again to 7 all before gaining the lead 8-7. Yet another backhand error from Grigor saw Ruby shine in the end 9-7. In the end, the 1st set came down to better 1st serve percentages in favor of Ruby. 2nd Set: Dimi cracked Ruby’s glinty serve at the start to gain a 2-0 lead as so many of Ruby’s returns seemed to hit the net. Not so fast! Dimi’s energy dipped precipitously allowing Ruby to rapidly regain a robust 3-2 turned 5-2 lead. Even after holding serve, Grigor’s gap remained at 5-3. Ruby easily held serve to clinch the win as Father Time once again called Diminished back to his side. What Went Wrong: Diminutive’s serve wasn’t there compared to his previous matches. Grigor continued to overuse the slice & played too defensively in the 1st set compared to his previous two matches. He was misguided in not coming to the net after Ruby’s passing shot early in the 1st set. In short, Dimmed tried to play Ruby’s more physical game only to lose energy & the match. Bonus: I am the green cricket on court in the 3rd game of the 1st set. Being an animagus helps me avoid paying for expensive sets. If you read this far, feel free to reply: cricket.

  • Rublev is a wall. He kept pummelling Dimitrov's single-handed backhand until it gave in, point after point. Would be funny if "no weapons" Rublev wins two Masters in the same year.

    • @@RH_Core few tools is different from none :p Tsitsipas is a sore looser but was actually true imo. Rublev isn't good (comparing to the other top20 guys) at dropshots, volley or having a different game plan than turning around his backhand to crush the other guy with his almighty forehand. That's why Rublev stuggles a lot against guys with a much stronger backhand side than him.

  • Most of the Grigor 's backhand strokes are too short(mostly the ball reached near the service line). That makes Rubulev attack more easily in his backside, and it leads Rubulev to the final.

    • ......and yet Rublev only won a handful of points more than Dimitrov. For a straight sets win, there was very little separating the two.......but armchair experts always whitter on about some perceived fatal flaw or other in the loser's technique. Sheesh, some people.

  • I still don’t understand why we can’t get at least 25% of the footage from a simple straight on court view from the back of either player (whoever is serving, or sometimes the return). It shows you the reality of the situation, let’s you see swings and footwork much closer, true net clearance, ball speed and spin is much easier to see, they’ll just show everything but that 😢

  • It's obvious to me one handed backhand has no place in modern ATP. I noticed the same with Federer in his later years too.

    @ChrisTennis@ChrisTennis6 ай бұрын
    • I don't see it that way. Grigor in fact has a backhand that lands very short close to the service line which really opens up the possibility of being attacked by the opponent, but it is not a fault with the backhand of one hand but rather because he does not execute consistently. Federer and Grigor's one-handed backhands are the weakest on the circuit although Federer has scored 20 grand slans. I see the one-handed backhand as very powerful when executed well, as we see with Stan and Thiem
