  • 69 years old. 6'4" tall. Piano player. Classic slouch. I just completed six weeks of PT doing exactly these kinds of stretches and back strengthening exercises. What I finally had driven into my brain is that I have to do these exercises repeatedly throughout the day to counter act my life long history of bad posture. And to effect signifigant change will take a long time. My new motivation poster is: " After six months, you will have either six months of excuses, or six months of progress. The choice is yours."

  • good stuff to be sure, I'm an acupuncturist and a doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, I spent a long time researching these things, just for giggles look into the speed at which massage tools operate, I'm pretty sure that after 7 to 10hz and especially at the speed these modern massage tools work the response of the musculature via the nervous system is to tighten up!, so despite the sort of kind of good feeling inevitably those massage tools, the pulsating electric ones I should say do the opposite of what you want, it's not all about blood circulation but relaxing the muscles, it's really hard to find one that works slowly, years ago in those gift stores in the mall there was what was called a mini thumper, it was the only one that had a slow setting which was slow enough, 7 to 10 cycles per second, that actually produces relaxation, go figure huh?

  • Another thing similar to the exercise with the rolling chair is to raise your desk up several inches (if you have an adjustable one), and just sit like that. It forces you to elongate your back and have better posture.

  • Dear Bob & Brad, I need help. At the age of 65 (I’m presently 67) I developed Scoliosis. Of course my life has been altered significantly. A year ago X-rays revealed the extent of my curvature. Recent X-rays show the curve is drastically worsened. Walking more than fifty feet became very painful. Now, I can’t hardly stand in my kitchen to make a sandwich. I’ve seen an orthopedic surgeon. The gist is: a complicated surgery, followed by an intensive and lengthy recovery period MIGHT give me some improvement. Basically it was presented as a crap shoot, a Hail Mary. Every day this is progressing. If you guys don’t have any advice Im about to give up. Of course I’ve tried physical therapy: it’s painful and I’ve only gotten much worse. I will watch for a reply and be grateful for anything you can suggest. I’m in Central Illinois. Thank you!🙏
