Jackal Pack vs Hyena: Food Fight | 4K UHD | Seven Worlds One Planet | BBC Earth
In the Namib desert, brown hyenas have to travel far and wide in search of food. Their search sometimes takes them out of the desert and to the coast where defenceless seal pups wait for their mothers to return from the sea.

Seven Worlds One Planet (2019)
Millions of years ago incredible forces ripped apart the Earth's crust creating seven extraordinary continents. One Planet: Seven Worlds, presented by Sir David Attenborough, will reveal how each distinct continent has shaped the unique animal life found there.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of entertaining and thought-provoking natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

I've NEVER seen a hyena and a seal in the same frame, ever ! You never disappoint, BBC and Mother Nature.
This is a Striped Hyena. Spotted Hyena lives more in land near the Savannah region.
@@teesmith4844 This is a Brown Hyena... 🤨
@@teesmith4844 So who mentioned which hyena it was? Siberian tiger, Bengal tiger, all tigers! I don't get your point if you are commenting to the person who never saw a hyena in the same frame with a seal...
@@thabzmad7265brown hyenas often live near seals, that’s maybe why they said it (even though they said the wrong name)
It's the yellow hyena😅.
That hyena mom is a trooper! Walking so long and fighting off jackals to feed her babies! What a good mom!!
I couldn't agree more! Hyena mothers are known for their fierce dedication to their offspring, and this video is a powerful testament to their resilience and strength. It's amazing to see how far this mother is willing to go to provide for her young, and she truly is an inspiration to us all.
but also, it killed a mothers child. but sadly that is how nature is. it's not like humans are any better...
@@moneyille - Humans are quite different and worse, killing for fun instead of survival.
It's amazing to see how far this mother is willing to go to provide for her young, and she truly is an inspiration to us all.
@@moneyille Comparing the behavior of humans to a hyena, or any member of "kingdom animalia," is utterly asinine. They are UNIVERSES apart, figuratively speaking.😖👎😫
They are also known as "Strandwolf", and they are so fascinating! This wild, dry stretch of shoreline is an extreme place to live, but it suits them perfectly. Or it did - until now. Our crew filmed how these seal colonies are gradually disappearing because the ocean is warming up, and the algae are poisoning the water; therefore, there are fewer fish for seals to eat. Our team went deep into Namibia to discover what this means for the future of Namibia's hyena clans.
That hyena looked like a Disney villain, they could really make an entire film outta this
That hyena looks so grizzled. Badass
I was thinking that one looked mangy, but never saw the rest of the pack to see if that was their natural coat. Also, not hunting as a pack?

This video of a jackal pack and hyena engaging in a food fight is a powerful reminder of the fierce competition that exists among predators in the wild. It's incredible to see these animals battling it out for access to their next meal, and a testament to the resilience and strength of these incredible creatures.
I haven’t watched BBC for nearly a year. It’s nice to see that Attenborough still is the best reporter in the world.
All the hyena needed was an eye patch and a skull tattoo. Although it wouldn't make a difference. Mothers, don't leave your seals unattended on the beach!
I love these nature documentaries fascinating to know so much about critters
never knew hyenas existed in the same place as seals.
Same 😅
So incredible that animals will do anything for there kids.
This was terrific David Attenborough but sheesh can you post longer videos.
Who left that baby seal alone 👿
😂
They have to, the adults would overheat if they can’t cool off in the water.
I just really like black backed jackals for some reasons. They are just these small canids compared to all these big predators that they have to compete with. It's incredible how they are even able to coexist among them. They are truly an underdog❤❤🦊🐺
Amazing I Love Nature & I Love Hearing Sir David Attenborough 🥰🎬🌍🎬💚
I was really surprised when he said it could feed them for days honestly, that's a lot.
The background vocal is something else
Looking at this big cats like lion and cheetah etc would smile with glee , saying have a taste of your own medicine
Predators like lions and cheetahs are no exception. While it may seem harsh or violent to us as humans, these interactions are a necessary part of the natural world and serve to maintain the balance of our ecosystems.
@@3winanimal dude did i ask this ?, And this something everyone knows why write useless comments Second did you even understand what i wrote, ?
Lions steal more from hyenas than the other way around. Your comment is pointless. Brown hyenas don't live in large clans, they are solitary hunters. Cheetahs still fear them.
Seal mom loses her child, killed by a predator who is also a mom, trying to feed her children.
The hyena now knows how the lions feel
@volklied I once saw a video of a brown hyena kidnapping a lion cub and breaking his neck. I can't find it anymore.
That is amazing ❤ thanks bbc!! Animals are the best!!❤
Amazing wildlife❤
The jackal looks very ferocious
We like some those kind of video by BBC earth nice
Jackals surrounding Hyena just like Hyenas surrounding their prey on other parts of the Africa, how the tables are turned.
Brown hyenas are solitary animals. It’s a different specie than the other pack hyenas.
Yes, it's interesting to see the tables turned in this situation, with the jackals surrounding the hyena instead of the other way around. This video is a powerful reminder of the fierce competition that exists among predators in the wild, and the importance of adaptation and resilience in these challenging environments.
I mostly prefer lion clean and hyena clean but after watch it, this hyena species looks like especial, it just like a different in such a way that this hyena has a combination of wolf and cat,
Yes, hyenas are definitely a unique and fascinating species. Their evolutionary adaptations and hunting strategies are unlike those of any other predator, and their physical characteristics are indeed a blend of different animals, including wolves and cats. It's amazing to see how these creatures have evolved to thrive in challenging environments, and their intelligence and resilience are a testament to the wonders of the natural world.
@@3winanimal Their hunting strategies are similar to those of canids. They are endurance hunters.

A species of hyena I actually like and admire...including their striking appearance.
How ironic, a mother is forced to rob another mother of her child to feed her own

I am so underrated
I feel bad for the seal mother
Well that's just nature there are no good or bad guys everyone is just trying to survive and the brown hyena here is a mother and her cubs need to eat same with the Jackles they might have pups to feed as well really its no different then a seal catching a fish in the ocean they all need to eat to survive
Why?
@oden gotchyu **
Maybe the mother is already dead. Why would such a young pup be left unattended?
The didn’t show the part where the jackals found a lone seal pup right after this and he talks about how the 15 odd jackals would’ve taken ages to kill the seal pup too, difficult scene
What is blud waffling about?
Amazing 👍
That is like a 3 way dog battle... seals are kinda sea dogs in a way lmao XD
Hyenas aren't closely related to dogs. They have their own family called Hyaenidae. Their closest relatives are civets.
@@BigBrotherTheWatcher1984 Oh yeah, I actually get it... probably the excitement. I do also know that Hyenas are more like closer to cats than dogs

I like how none of the adults were even trying to help their child, what BEAUITFUL wildlife. (This is sarcastic, if none of you guys know what that neans, please go.)
😂😂😂
Hyenas aren't stupid - rather than facing an angry protective mother, they go after unattended pups
Nothing they could do, really. A hyena's bite force meant it was already dead, and it's a faster/more agile animal than they, on land
Yes and you would run and abandon your family members/friends as soon as you started to feel what it was like to get ripped apart by teeth. BEAUTIFUL.
Seal: Damn that sucks. o well
How did long haired hyenas evolve in the Namib desert?
Brown hyenas are primarily scavengers - they puff up their shaggy coat to intimidate other carnivores off carcasses
The Jackals do absolutely nothing to a hynena!

Hyena near to the sea ? Which place is this
I wonder if a planet exists where life is not inherently cruel....
Everything has to eat to survive. Humans are cruel when they do things they know are wrong but don't care. That hyena isn't being cruel, it's getting what it needs.
A planet with just trees then
@@BigBrotherTheWatcher1984 Probably not, because plants compete for sunlight etc. Their fight is just a slow one.
@@DuchessofEarlGrey But that's not exactly cruel.
@@BigBrotherTheWatcher1984 Watch the BBC clip about the giant water lily. Plants are something else.
I wonder how a male lion would fair against the dominant male cape fur seal who are thick necked and aggressive with powerful bite. I know they are not much heavier at 300kg but still their skin is even thicker than cape buffalo and also blubber within the skin and their attack seem more faster and stronger than cape buffalo.
Honestly i think a cape buffalo's attack is way worse than a cape fur seal, i mean they have weapons specifically for taking on things like that. This is why a lion cant take on a healthy cape buffalo on their own.
The male lion would do fine... Laying around in the sun while several of his lionesses take down the seal.
It's an interesting question to ponder, but it's important to remember that lions and Cape fur seals live in very different environments and have evolved different hunting strategies and adaptations. While lions are certainly powerful predators, their strength and abilities may not necessarily translate to a fight against a Cape fur seal. Additionally, it's important to respect and appreciate the diversity of the natural world, and to avoid promoting or glorifying violent interactions between species.
I am Namibian and the Namib (desert) does have lions. They are mostly found in the northern part of the Namibian coastline (Dorob) along with the elephants. The wild have adapted to the desert as Namibia is mostly an arid country. The seals are prey to lions as well as sharks, hyenas and jackals. Namibia has the largest wild seal population. They mostly live from the Cape Cross area further up north. But there are smaller colonies down south as well.
Hyena sounds like Hasbulla
Stupid seals, they go to cool off and just leave the pups there to be devoured ☠️☠️☠️
A fair day's wage for a fair day's work!

Why don’t the seals leave their pups with another adult? Ugh 😣
Why do they sound like a flock of sheep.

Sorry, I just Can't find anything To like about hyenas But that's nature
@oden His mind has been tainted by watching Disney's The Lion King.
I mean...What do you actually know about hyenas? That's a good question to start with any animal, really. If you research any animal, you'll find something unique or interesting about them. In case of hyenas, their great intelligence is one thing to be admired. Spotted hyenas have intelligence on par with some primates, and are very skilled and talented hunters whom even the lions will rob if they can. Their social structure of matrialinity and inheritance is also unlike any other carnivoran out there. Brown hyenas are incredibly durable. They can withstand the harsh sandstorms and cold desert nights of their envirements, all while out searching for their next meal. Striped hyenas are incredibly adapatble, being the only hyena species outside of Africa and are known to stand their ground against much bigger threats even when the odds are against them, are dedicated parents and are surprisingly easy to tame. And aardwolves are the smallest and most unknown of the four, just minding their own business and happily munching on termites. Its also good to remember that when it come's to arguments against hyenas people often have, many of them don't make sense. They're predators, killing is what they do. They may scavenge, no carnivore will say no to an easy meal. They'll eat young or weak animals if they can, which any predator will do. The spotted hyena is known to eat prey alive, but painted dogs, wolves, dholes and even hawks are known to do it as well. Even lions, whom are often not associated with this behavior, will occasionally engage in it.
All hyenas? First off there are 4 species Spotted hyenas Brown hyenas/strandwolf Striped hyenas And aardwolves Second what do _you_ know about hyenas?
Hyena is huge compared to the jackal if I was it I’d just kill one of them and give the others the seal
It shows human nature as well. And we call it civilisation. Size matters obviously.
