      @M0rinkashi@M0rinkashi2 жыл бұрын
    • @@M0rinkashi Took me entirely too long to realize it, but video games HAVE to be that way because of the nature of real-world firearms design. In real-world combat, there are a handful of guns that are just flat-out better in every way than every other gun in their combat niche because they're literally designed to be better and overpowered. Obviously this is because better weaponry is a major factor in winning combat engagements. But for video game devs and players, that's no fun, we want variety! So the only way to address that while keeping the game fair is virtually change things about the weaponry and tools to keep the game balance. As you said - it's either realistic, or balanced, but we can't have both

      @finnfin@finnfin2 жыл бұрын
    • @@finnfin Sure that’s definitely doable. But then you will have a very small selection of guns because as I said, there’s a small group of guns that are “do-it-all” and overall better than the rest when it comes to range, stopping power, accuracy, and ergonomics. Such as the M4/M16, AKM/AK47, SCAR, and MP5. That’s why you see these weapons in pretty much every single shooter, and why video games constantly include less-used and lesser known weapons that realistically aren’t as good of designs. They even make weapons up that don’t exist (not including sci-fi games of course). The MPX is a good example - it originally started out as a 3D-printed air gun design that inadvertently became so popular through video game usage that Sig Sauer decided to pick up the design and make a real gun out of it. The thing about the MPX, it’s just a differently designed MP5 which is once again one of those top tier weapons you’ll find in every shooter game ever

The actual, real-world game reason is that a KZheadr called BikiniBodhi campaigned so hard for it that Ubisoft gave it one. Ash's breaching round exists because the devs wanted some sort of bazooka, and compromised with a grenade launcher that does the same thing but in a smaller package. If we somehow crammed that kind of power in a grenade launcher that would be pretty slick.

What makes it a bit confusing, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that Ash is with the FBI in-universe. As well funded as the FBI is, I doubt they'd be using that type of kit. If it was a normal explosive round to breach, you would be caught with it still in your hands, whereas the split second before the explosion gives you a chance to switch back to your rifle. Though, in actuality, I feel like the smoke/debris created by the explosion would likely be enough to make target identification hard enough in that brief moment, or you would have a squad member ready to fire next to you.

The prevalent theory is breaching shotguns belong on a single point sling, held in place with a magnet to the side. The Army did order less than 200 Marine spec M1014's with 5 round tubes, a few aren't accounted for in armory.

  • Fun Fact about the Super-Shorty : it is actually a 3+1 round shotgun. Ubisoft decided that it would be too powerful of a gun if it did that, so the characters will load two shells in the feed tube after chambering a round rather than three. As for Blackbeard's Ballistic Shield? The thing was HEAVILY nerfed so that it is almost useless. At launch, the thing was a nightmare as it was able to take a lot of bullets from higher calibers until finally breaking. And as for the BOSG.12.2 with an ACOG? It is a shotgun that is loaded with Slug Shells, so it is supposed to be for heavy-hitting ranged combat in the game.

    @ChuckBrowning@ChuckBrowning2 жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely this. Jonathan is definitely a gamer and would probably appreciate meeting some devs. It would also give the devs an opportunity to explain some of these choices. Even though people hate it, as designers their job is often to break the meta to keep more characters/kits viable. Repetition and complacency make players leave games. As much as some will complain about nerfs, adapting to patches draws a lot of people back into gameplay. If you only go back to try out updates, that game is already dead to you and they know it.

  • just gonna say i would love to have a Jonathan review where he takes a look on each of the groups in rainbow six siege and gives a score on how good they are compare with IRL so like is Thatcher, sledge, smoke and mute on par with the real life would they really be part of the SAS?

    @anilaisor@anilaisor2 жыл бұрын
    • Well Thatcher and Sledge are based on real life SAS operatives from the Iranian Embassy Siege from the 80's, then there Montaigne who has real life counterparts as shown in the aftermath of 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, where they showed the ballistic shields shot to shreds by AK fire.

      @pyorre2441@pyorre24412 жыл бұрын
    • @@pyorre2441 i mean more overall like do the guns and operator gadgets seen like SaS stile equipment, the suits, are the guns the ones that SaS prefer to use irl or is it just guns that people think they use, how about all the other groups like BOPE from Brasil and all that, just saying since he looks like a professional who would know a good amount about stuff like that

      @anilaisor@anilaisor2 жыл бұрын
    • @@anilaisor well for the SAS operators, Smoke is the only one wearing his mask correctly, the other three either don't have filters in them, and thus should be suffocating, and the one that is wearing filters, is wearing the mask wrong and breaking the seal and thus rendering the whole thing useless. But that's just stuff I've heard I'm no expert. But as far a the BOPE operators, I have no issues with Capitão, so long as people can pronounce his name correctly, but the issue is Caveira. She has a criminal record, and irl, they do not allow people with criminal records in the BOPE, not even as community service as portrayed by her lore, so that's out of the window entirely and she shouldn't even be here. You or another comment also mentioned the equipment, and lemme tell you, the guns are not the only inaccuracies, from day one Siege has never truly portrayed true realism, as a lot of the gadgets and utility straight up does not exist in real life, and what does exist does not exist in the forms that it does in-game. Thatcher is one example, as EMP's do not function like they do in Siege, and especially not so small, an EMP that powerful in such a small grenade shape just doesn't work. Ash's breaching rounds shouldn't burrow into a surface before firing, they should explode upon immediate impact after a certain distance of travel, Jackal's Eyenox doesn't exist and also shouldn't even function as well as it does, it's way too high tech and it's tracking is way too accurate, and do I even need to mention Finka's nanobots? I could keep going, but I feel like I've made by case. Siege hasn't been completed tactically realistic since Dust Line, and even before then it was chalk full of inaccuracies that fly in the face of realism. It's always been an arcade shooter, just with a different skin and playstyle attached to it. I still love and play the shit out of the game though, hell I'm actually about to go play it right now, I don't really care about it's realism but I do enjoy dispelling the idea that Siege ever was realistic.

  • Fun fact about the ballistic rifle shield in siege. It used to have health and would spider and crack until useless. This was deemed to powerful so now you get two that block exactly one headshot each. It's a game balancing thing. It also affects Blackbeard's, the operator, movement. Increasing time to aim down sight, decreasing movement speed and turning speed.

  • 16:30 its mainly designed to protect your head from at least one deadly headshot, then shatter. In some cases it can take more damage without breaking but its mainly useful against smaller/ weaker weapons. In R6 seige, a headshot is an instant death no matter what. So it is very useful for peaking around corners quickly without getting a third eye punched into your forehead instantly. In terms of realism, im not too sure. It would have to be some form of bullet resistant glass and it would probably add a bit more weight to your weapon, but in terms of gameplay it gives a lot of life saving situations where every shot counts. Most players aim for the head since its the quickest way to take someone down, so a shield with basically 1 shot protection would be decently useful against someone with a low fire rate.
