Let's hit every wave! Haulover Inlet

Boats bow stuffing straight down the middle of the Haulover inlet and hit every wave head on! The best line in and out of Haulover is on the edges of the inlet, you will avoid the big waves caused by the strong current in the middle

Nothing says 'rookie' more than leaving your fenders out to smash against your boat while underway.
That’s a signature of Haulover. So many boats leave their fenders out to slap the hull over and over.
Was looking for this comment. Did that guy even stay out an hour? 1 hour out and back. 4 hours cleaning off the salt spray…
Right🤨. First lesson my husband taught me and I ‘m the rookiest of all.
Surprised the fenders didn’t go right through the portholes!
And then there's the boats with lines dragging in the water
That first boat wasn't defeated, he was smart.
He saw the drone and was like “hell no I’m not about to be on KZhead.”
Therefore he didn't hit every wave and shouldn't have made it onto the video.
Grandma says No!... was smart!
Could he not have followed the bigger boat in ?
That big boat has some very impressive stabilizers. Those gyros are working overtime not just to minimize rolling but also to reduce pitching.
What’s the gyros?
@@connor8558 Gyroscopic stabilizers that are inside the boat, not external fins. They can work impressively well.
Probably fins. The bigger yacht shown after it had no stabilization on board.
Doubt it
It is astounding that a man smart enough to buy Big Girl doesn't know enough to take in and store his fenders
Lazy, makes a nice boat look shabby.
Exactly! Seeing those just hanging there getting battered by the waves is driving me nuts!
Must be a rental.😂😂
And the other guy forgot about Batten-down-the -hatches.
It’s his boat.
08:01 has the best tactic. Well done. We're hoping to get Thunder Child 2 through there later this year
Is Thunderchild 2 going to Haulover and the USA?
What happens in 5:38 can be really dangerous. The yacht is loosing partly flotation in the middle of the hull(due to the "hole" between the wave tips) therefore also stability, actually its possible to capsize a ship due to this. Stability calculation usually dont take this into considering but are calculated basis the entire hull is surrounded with water. This hull has also probably a pretty low GM as is. The problem here is that the Yacht traveled at a speed close to the speed of the wave, prolonging the bad situation. Can assure You guys the that one was much worse from the inside than it looked form the drone. That master will sure be a bit more careful in the future, that's for sure!
Parametric Roll. A hairs breadth away from capsize there.
@@MrSamueljcat yes, som older design RoRo vessels were prone to this phenomena.
What do you need to? Be faster than the wave or slower?
@@TheHellfighter1111 Good question. Usually increasing the angle relative to wave direction helps, but probably not possible in that spot.. it looks like they used pretty much speed( possible aware of the issue), but in this case not much help. General rule is to avoid sailing in such conditions, again that can be a though call. I would make sure that all bunker and FW tanks are full, increasing the stability, as also pay special attention to ensure personnel and stuff onboard are "prepared" for potential violent movement. Looking at the video , this was only kind of initial stages of Parametric Rolling, but luckily the condition lasted only for limited distance, a couple of more of those rolls things could have ended very bad.
I wouldn't want to clean up the mess inside afterwards... And yes, I also think this was closer to a capsize than I'd want to come as a skipper...
Haulover inlet, it's simple, no big deal: 1) go out along the sides, not the middle. 2) Any inlet - when coming back in stay just behind the wave, do not go surfing in front of it. 55 years going out of Haulover and Government cut, from 13' Whaler to 67' sailboat and everything inbetween.
Grandma is the smartest one of the bunch.
They usually are. Wisdom....
If you buy a boat it’s worth learning about what it can or cannot do.Knowing the conditions ahead before you set out is important so that comes down to planning as does catching or missing the tide. You can have lots of money but at sea you have to show it respect and know what to do, that comes with experience and taking time to obtain knowledge. The sea can be a great environment but it can also be very unforgiving and dangerous too. Like a lot of things you get out what you put in.
Nice fenders - great look captain
the dude rocking the outboard johnson was ripping. love it
Always enjoy this channel! Great drone work! 🤙🏼
Cannot beat the color of the water in that drone view...absolutely gorgeous water!! Us big girls usually do handle a challenge well...😉😆. Ty for the video!!
Stow your fenders next time
@@CaptainRon1913 I see sooo many people leave their fenders out, flopping all over the place lol. Fenders out and no life vests most of the time lol
That one boat heeled over a bit too much for me.
I wanna be that gentleman in the last Intrepid when I grow up. Well managed in the perfect boat.
That’s some great drone work.
Those fenders acting like a couple wrecking balls against the hull..... 😏🤣
I can't help but imagine that the drone flying 50' off your bow can be a massive distraction during what can be a stressful situation.
Lol,, well I'd be a lot more worried about the distractions on the road .... driving a big boat through Haulover isn't risking life and limb at every moment.
@@andyp91 in the wrong size boat, it is. Lol
No distraction at all.
If that’s a stressful situation, your not qualified/experienced to be out in those conditions. That inlet is considered a normal day out for many around the world. I know teenagers who have the confidence and capabilities to get past that inlet first attempt. Knowing your limits and seeking the correct training is common sense.
@@riamriam6758 i said "can be".... anything can happen. I've never been to this inlet. They always look different from the helm.
Best Haulover channel. Wish you did more!!😊
Wow I'm loving your drone work. Fantastic angles. Keep that work coming....please !
Pull ur fenders in Qualified!!!! She's a beautiful boat. I've been boating nearly 50yrs, an I don't think I've seen it all yet, people still amaze me at their stupidity when it comes to safety on the water, any water, even the bathtub😲😂🌈 I've just found ur channel, very impressed with presentation so I've subscribed, u say u bring content from all around the world, let's see some from Australia please 🇦🇺💙
finally someone did what i've been saying for years: cut sharply north on a fast outgoing and you skip 95% of the bs. Doesnt take rocket science, and i suspect that was a true local being smart.
That big yacht got lucky for sure. A couple more seconds at that angle and the engines could have lost oil pressure and tripped a failsafe shutting them off. Not the place to be dead in the water and having to run down to the engine room to reset the failsafe.
Love Clint Eastwood @8.05 😂 Gread vids, awesome background tv in 4k in the mancave while playin some pinball
Wow, that drone footage is great
Those fenders thumping around on the outside of the hull
That's what beginners do..leave them out
Extra buoyancy, kept it from capsizing...😂
Drone footage is awesome!
great aerial shots!
When i worked at a marina, i met some cool as captains. The boat owners were usually not as cool, some were, but captains always had that cool demeaner about them. Talking about the 65-90 foot yachts, which is what our yard had mostly. and sail boats.
Thank for formally giving us another video worth watching. Those”shorts” are annoying. You all are the best!
Excellent job on the video thanks 👍
Even though the big boat's fenders were out it sure looked like a great ride kind of like an Amusement park roller coaster it really looked great.😁😝🎉🌊
That "Big Girl" with the swinging fenders @0:50 is obviously crewed by landlubbers. Take your fenders in!!!!!
love you zipzap 😍😍
@:20 I'd have just cruised calmly behind the yacht in the background for smoooooth sailing!
The Blue-Top Legend would have handled this chop like a champ! 😊
Those girls are "FEARLESS" !!!!!
Excellent video ❤
Haul over really isn't that bad, it just takes mostly patience and a person good at reading waves who knows their vessel, mostly it's like captaining a sailboat or a tug, you don't have the excessive speed so you learn how to just make way pushing ahead and how to use what you have. Most just try to hammer through it so it gets entertaining.
Nice drone shots!
beautiful!
The water is so blue and beautiful. I would go out everyday.
6:55 That boat looks nice
I'd be reeeealy tempted to skeet practice on that drone
That big girl almost fell over haha
wow! what a video!😍
Wavy baby and her mission man, were back in the alley trading hands. All about Billy and his friend G man, a Doo doo on a Saturday night.
8:04 love the sound of a OMC outboard,,,,Johnson,,,Evinrude
At around 6:26 the blue and white with triples. We were there that day and got a video of that. Small world. Took my daughter by to see Haulover before we went to the airport to head back to Virginia. Cool
5:40..when you can reach out the flybridge and touch the waves.....that's a pucker factor.
How do you record the sound? :)
5:38 Yeah, that looks like fun. If Haulover can do that to what is decidedly a good sized yacht, why would anyone venture out there?
Those boat's aren't designed for that unlike a nordhaven
Great.
that big one in the begining looks like it has gyro stabbleizers cool
The finders are a good look.
Grate Drone!!! Thanks!!!
5:22 Must be a rented boat with these fenders hanging out slamming in to the hull. That is screaming amateur so hard it is deafening 😜
Nice video. the drone makes the video so much better than only having a camera on the jetty.
very nice pictures!!!.
Man that Grady-White rolled over the crest of 5 waves entering the inlet at 7:30 , it seems that the fishermen with a ton of rods walk back the throttle and the day-boaters with no rods go full.
How are you getting AUDIO with the drone?
Credit to the first guy for not cranking a turn to port. Like most everyone does.
Proof that drivin a boat is a dice roll always a change to die !!!
Is there an optimum time to 'run' the inlet?
Haha, water shoots through the anchor hawse pipe, blows the anchor locker door open and sends a firehose blast of water right into their faces
Wow, looks like a really rough day at the inlet.
Good to see the captain left the fenders out 😃
People never fail to amaze me. Former USCG.
What type of drone do you use?
"Its just some chop, this boat can handle some chop. Tell her Capt. Ted, we can handle some chop right?"...
Those are nice battering rams that guy has on the sides of his yacht!
nice one ❤
so much fun!
Thats insane
Love the drone vids. Small but mighty reminded me how I miss Johnson and Evinrude engines.
The 30-50m yacht at 00:09 and 5:39 is Listing Precariously if that had had any loose heavy object or Liquid Tanks going Starboard to Port with wrong level of Liquids it would not have righted itself from such an angle.
Nice camera work😄
The guy flashing the drone is hilarious.
Great videos ! What editing software do you use?
Not sure but it seems these large yachts are just below the size where a captain's license is required. Clearly, they are not being skippered by professionals. One has his fenders still deployed and the other has his fenders laying on the deck instead of stowed and an unsecured deck locker. Armature hour.
I'll tell you, that Inlet is crazy, the best Captain around could easily get in trouble. I'd likewise the biggest Schlubb to ever run a boat could Escape unscathed.
OK so I don't live in Florida, I have never been to Haulover, but I enjoy watching these videos and have seen a bunch. All of my boating is on Lake Ontario so a bit less aggressive on most days. What I have noticed is that for some reason people want to just bang it out of the inlet right down the middle but is seems like there is much calmer water near to the jetty (not that the bigger vessels can take advantage) but for someone like me in a 21' sea pro with 150hp Yamaha that is the way I would go if I could. Enlighten me please.
The fenders out are a clear sign the big vessel is not professionally crewed, but rather the owner is at the helm.
Great show as always. USA 🇺🇸 Jeff Baran 🇺🇸 FOREVER
why are the waves always so crazy in that area?
Hello sailors but can you tell me what mouth this is and where is it? Thank you
That'll smash the best crockery
If my Captain ever left fenders out he would be replaced.
@5:05 to @5:17 what beautiful.... Beautiful shots of that Princess. Absolutely stunning. Can go right into the sales video 🙂
That drone pilot is going to get a visit by the FAA one day
I think i see why they turn immediately upon exiting the inlet: it seems that the wave action is the worst right at and on the ocean side of the mouth of the inlet.
this is the most AWESOME crazy channel ever, i love this kind of content lol
the 60HP Johnson on that 16ft boat was lucky
Water over the bow in that white and tan boat cause the Capt didn't have it trimmed correctly, pace was good but bow was set to cut thru the chop
Looks a Horizon 80' plus ? They usually have stabilizers
I'm surprised that small boat drivers even attempt a pass in such treacherous conditions. They advertise their level of judgment really well
That "Pointy" would make a good sea dart.
I'd love to see one of the new Euro boats with a skinny plumb bow try to run that inlet. Submarine.
Buen spot para probar el pantoque.
7:45 I've never seen a rooster tail from the bow before. lol. So that big yacht listing hard to starboard... he should have been going a little faster, right? Avoid sitting the bow and stern on top of waves like that?
The ‘big girl’ at the beginning was driven out of the inlet beautifully… but had a bit of a shocker on the way back in. Wonder if it’s stabilised?
i think it was a wave length thing. One peak at the bow and t'other at the stern, and coming back with the waves not against them which effectively shortens the wave length.
lol,Yes, I agree with your thoughts and opinions. Didn't expect to see your comment here. How are you doing? I'm Jesse, do you remember?🤣
@@jeremyrowley1240 I think you mean the other way around. Going into the waves effectively shortens the wavelength as they pass by quicker. But running with them effectively lengthens them because you spend longer sitting between the peaks. And if your boat speed matches the wave speed exactly you stay where you are relative to it ie it becomes an endless wave!
:18 Easy there CowBoy!!!
