  • I built my Liberty because everyone has a Wrangler or Cherokee....... 4" JBA Silver Lift as a base and built upon, ARB dual under the hood, F&R arb lockers in the 8.25 and D30, re-geared to 4.11, manual trans with a 231 T case 1.25 chain / gears, 6 pinion planet and a teraflex 2 low fork kit. the connection of it all is a hack and tap SYE from IRO with Custom Adams Drivelines front and rear - Napa extended CV's up front. Everyone chuckles up until I pull them out - Crazy capable machine! Not just for Starbucks. I call mine the "3 lock box" LOL Matty is still with us - just in a different way !!!!!!

Mostly stock. But does have a 2 in lift. Oh boy. The value just went up. I think a Liberty Club sounds great. But I’m not building it up. With the lift, for what I do, it’s very capable.

  • Good morning Hollie this year's On X off road build will definitely be interesting. I don't think a lot of people will go over budget since you have Paul with FabRats who knows how to do a budget build and he is good at using parts he has on other vehicles. The man has plenty of vehicles he can use for parts. You have Colt and Rory in my opinion Rory is good at making a beast for low cost his Buggy is proof of that. You have Robby who also has parts vehicles he can use to save money. My only concern would be Rudy because he doesn't have options other than buying parts and I hope he doesn't go overboard like last year.

It is, without initiative, the most beautiful and wonderful car I have ever seen in my life. Honestly, there is nothing strange, as beauty only produces beauty. This is you, Holly. • Sheila is a girl's name, but as a general term for a woman (eg. "She's an alright sheila.") only Australians use that. However, the male equivalent - "bloke" - is used in both Australia and the UK. Also sometimes used to refer to a "wild woman" or tom boy.

But the best part is that they're free or very inexpensive. I'm retired and mildly disabled. I love camping. Thanks for the great idea. I was looking at the 4runner but this is better...I hope. They're definitely cheaper. Parts should be abundant and upgrading options should be great.

  • Since you like open cabs, suggest to mod in a way similar to that copper XJ (Offroad Games) with a tube upper cage tied into the cut (cut of the a-to-b-to-c pillars). Add a XJ front D30R with 3 link, mod the rear like a WJ (wishbone upper, lower CAs) on 33/35s. Put a doubler in (Rubi-crawler), 1/3-1/4 door (as inserts with a canvas fill to an arm rest).

I think Colt has serious penny pinching power so he’s going to be tough competition on the bang for buck, Paul also has some chops for thrifty building so we know you’ll be bringing your A game trying to best these competitors.

The upper plastic mounting tabs tend to crack and leak after a few months of hard wheeling The KJ has a unique oil pump in its 231 that has to be replaced for the TJ equivalent if you intend to do a SYE You can use Rubicon Express RE1134 swaybar quick disconnects in the front without modification 4.10 gears are as high as you can go with the stock front axle If you flip the tire carrier upside down and add a 1.5" spacer, you can fit a 265/75/16 without interfering with the back glass opening/closing Feel free to shoot me a DM and I'm happy to share my build if you want some ideas

I also see them come up fairly inexpensively on craigslist a lot, my fellow vehicle dweller buddy has a worn out Volvo XC70 Cross country with a blown head gasket possibly a cracked block and we’re looking for a replacement for her on tight budget and we have considered the liberty, but more economical vehicles like Toyota RAV4, Honda element, Honda, CRV.

    @4wdtennessee459@4wdtennessee459Ай бұрын
    • Well I have been shocked at what Sheila has done out on the trail. It hasn’t been graceful by any means, but as an affordable and fun trail rig, the scrapes and bangs you hear on the inside end up making you smile and laugh instead of worry. We have been having a ton of fun (and driving her around town) 🤣

      @MischiefMakerTV@MischiefMakerTVАй бұрын
  • Each repair you do that requires fabricating continually builds your confidence level in your capabilities when they stand the test of time. When they don't they help you gain experience and improve as a fabricator so don't get discouraged when those learning opportunities, frustrating as them might be, present themselves. Perhaps Paul with his large stockpile of parts vehicles might be in the best position to stay under budget since he might already have most of what he needs sitting out in a field down the street. Those with less cheap junk resources already on hand may be more likely to go over since they will likely have to go out and purchase stuff. Best!

    @neilfromclearwaterfl81@neilfromclearwaterfl81Ай бұрын
    • I do think most of the teams will manage to stay under budget because of their personal skill level as fabricators and resources they have in hand, but that does nothing to help others build a similarly capable budget off road rig. My goal here is simple 1) cheap, accessible rig 2) builder parts anyone can buy 3) parts from FB marketplace I plan to stay well under budget and it is my hope that anyone with a welder and a year of experience using it can replicate my build within that same budget. No special deals, no resource pile parts, no special tools plasma table needed. 😀

    • I think the calculations for Rudy were a bit aggressive last year. He definitely was close, but I don’t think he was over!

  • This is off subject a little. Can you ask Matt to invite @HunterGoodrich to the off road games next year, I think he would be a crowd favorite. Also good luck with the budget build competition, I know you can beat the experienced off road fabricators. I would guess a soil front axle and giant tires would be the trick, also gears and suspension 👍.

  • A jeep patriot would have been a weird one to see but they are cheap . The stock suspension suck but the engine is kinda reliable
