Color is starting to fade, but Astro was more than happy to send me a replacement. I'm not that good with sound quality - but in terms of customer service - Astro Gaming is an absolute beast.

just got these from a dude for 120 aud with a mixamp, nice review love the energy.
Still using my gen 1 Astro A40s. I seriously have no clue how long I've had them. But they still sound fantastic. The sound crackles a little bit and it feels like the sound is uneven as I adjust the volume, but the crackling stops once the volume is adjusted, and I just need to make sure that the sound is even on both sides. Apart from that... they're great. Whenever anyone else uses them, they're always super impressed how good they sound. Currently looking at getting a new headset, but tossing up between these and the Steelseries Arctis Pro with the DAC. The thing is that I've had these for so long with "minimal" issues, that I really am leaning towards just getting the new A40s.

Fantastic review my man. I’m looking to upgrade from my 2013 Grey/Blue A40’s + M80 Mixamp to these. I’ve ran through 3 M80 amps ($80 Canadian a piece...) where the first ended up being chewed through by a cat, the second failed me (poor build), and the 3rd is working fine for now, but was having issues with my Xbox One controller earlier last week (every time I’d squeeze my controller, it’d disconnect my headset and controller... sometimes would even lock up my Xbox One X and it’d power down!)... Bought a pair of A10’s to use with my PC as switching the cords from my A40’s was a hassle, but the A10’s just aren’t as good... Think I may pull the trigger on the A40 TR headset & MixAmp Pro. The A50’s look nice because they’re wireless, but I’ve heard numerous issues with them and I find corded in general is still better with electronics in general, even in 2020. Anyway, sorry, long comment, but great review as I said earlier haha

@11:55 Your noise gate settings determine how aggressively the mixamp filters out what it deems to be background noise. I had mine set to home, and my friends complained that they couldn't hear me very well. I do speak quietly, and they said they could just make out every other syllable. I changed my settings to Night, which relaxed the noise gate, and they could hear me just fine. I'd imagine that tournament wouldn't work out at all for me unless I was shouting (over a crowd, at a tournament, which makes sense), and that streaming would work well in a pin-drop quiet, stream-friendly environment.

I had Astro A40s 2013 edition for 5 years with no issues. Upgraded to the new model a couple months ago and the audio kept cutting and eventually after a few days it stopped working in general. I returned them and went more budget with Cloud 2s. Astros are great if they work lol. btw leaving this before watching the video

I just bought them and it took me a LONG time to set up, especially the mic. Once I got them working though the sound quality amazed me.
How’d you fix the mic problem
TSM_Woods 4321 I turned off my Xbox, then while it was off I plugged the cord that goes into the headphones into the aux port on the back of the mixer. Then I turned my Xbox on and plugged it back into the headphones. Then I flipped the switch to pc, and back to Xbox
Command center wouldn’t recognize my mix amp. So I found that you can download the old version (2015) from their website and it updated the firmware of my mix amp. Fixed the mic issue from Xbox not recognizing the mic. Hope they fix the updated command center down the road, but it’s a fix for now to use the old version.

I’ve had them for about 6 weeks now. Best headset I’ve ever owned ... I’ve tried all of the steel series except 1 of the really cheap versions. I’ve tried almost every turtle beach and every single hyper x. This was my first set of astros and I fell in love with them after I got used to the semi open back.

I play on PC only. I'm torn between the A40s and steelseries Arctis pro +gamedac. Sense you have time using both witch would you recommend? Any advise would be helpful thanks. Great Review. Been looking at these along with a few other headsets. I have the 2013 Astro A40 with MixAmp. I'm sure these are much better than that setup. What would the new A40 MixAmp sound like with the 2013 A40 headset? Huge Difference in tech on the headphones? Also I have been looking between the A40, A50, SteelSeries Arctis Pro + GameDAC and the Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless. Which ones would you pick?

Now being an audiophile myself, I don’t really invest in gaming headphones, but decided to get these for my younger brother since he was using some cheap ear piece. Not gonna lie these probably have the best soundstage I’ve heard on a gaming headset in stereo mode. It sounded pretty much the same as the HD700 soundstage, not quite as wide as HD800 but boy for a gaming headset, damn.

Will I need a new inline mute cable for the new mixamp or will the old inline mute cable that came with the previous TR mixamp work as well?
I cant get the voice and game balancing nobs to work on pc unless I'm using the optical cable. But on the product page it says you don't need the optical unless on xbox.
Well... I had Arctis Pro + dac for 3 years. They "pre-broke" so I sold them cheap. I realised my headset had tiny crack near hinge. I used google and found so many dissapointed people have the same problem as I did. I took care of my headset and didn't throw them or used any violence. This is clearly manufacture error. Soon without proper fix they will break and headcups will tear apart. Use google and you'll see what I mean. If you have steelseries or will buy them, you could have same problem, I warn you. Now for a month I have used Astro A40 TR, mixamp and hdmi adapter... Astro is the best! I use these with PS5. Sound is awesome! Quality build and... well basically everything is great. Nothing bad to say. These are perfect premium headsets! Mixamp really gives boost. I don't miss those Arctis Pro headset.
Do you find that the ear cushions aren't big ( tall and wide ) enough on the inside and hurts your ears after awhile?
Are you able to connect a USB mic to the Amp/Dac while still being able to use it the headset for sound?
Will these work on the PS5 the same as PS4? Or does the microphone work now? (Assuming you’d need to use it on the PC mode)
The headset is nice. The mixer seems to be meh seeing that it all gets ignored by the dolby atmos app (which handles the EQ too) on xbox series S. I haven't invested the money to split the optical out of the HDMI yet. It seems pretty half assed to have two different apps handle equalizer settings, which collide with each other. The presets set by the PC are meaningless on the xbox as the dobly app over rides it. You also have to be in passthrough mode on the mixer ("Star") or it gets double mixed. It basically provides a big fat volume knob as opposed to the volume adjustment on my razer wolverine TEs. I really can't tell the difference between the sound quality of the A40s when they're plugged directly into the TEs or the mix amp.
Bought my a40 in 2015, Love the sound, hate the quality bulid on mix amp... usb on MixAmp pro broke after less than 3 years, and it stayed on the same spot since i connected them.. i managed to repair it partially, i can hear the sound but my mic is not working. That's why i am looking for a new headset, any recommendations price range up to 300€

Bye! excuse the question, but I hope you will want to help me. I have a hearing loss and I am looking for a remedy for when I am on the PC and Xbox (S series). Can this kit be right for me? Currently I use a simple amplifier, very cheap but at least able to amplify the volume of my headphones (but the microphone is excluded). Here are the specifications of my amplifier that houses wired headphones and possibly passive speakers (which I don't use); Product model: LP-168mini Input power: DC12-24≥3A. Speaker impedance: 4-8Ω frequency response: 20Hz ~ 20kHz. Total harmonic distortion: 80 dB.

I arrested them later on, on for something different, I wish I found something on them or in their place. Thanks man I was hurt, because they know my brother and we both was cool with them. My Brother was still a cop at this time it happened, but now retired. He tried to find something on them too
I have the Astro MA3X03 mix amp and I absolutely hate it. It sits right on my desk and it just bends usb cables, with that the usb is always coming lose and my game audio cuts out. I’ve bought 5+ usb cables for it within a year. This is my experience and it isn’t this model but the design is very similar. You wouldn’t be able to detect this problem with just a short turm review.

You want soundstage get a open back headphones the sennheiser hd598 with a Modmic and forget about this gaming headsets.
I do wish their ear cushions were a little thicker for us big ear people gaming over 2hrs at a time. So far turtle beach elite atlas hands down has the best comfort for big ears. But...their build quality let them down (owned 5 and all 5 broke in the same area)

I have the Cloud Alpha s as well. Would you say that footsteps aren’t heard too well with yours? Like in Apex or other shooters.
@@cameronmorgan5717 The only way to hear "footsteps" Is if the game itself has an equalizer settings, or Equalizer Presets, Call of Duty has these, but other games do not. Having a Mix Amp, DAC, or whatever they call is what you would need to hear higher sounds and lower bass.

As someone who has owned all 3 of the headsets you mentioned, I would go for the a40s with mix amp pro. Make sure you get these gen 4 2019 editions if you do. So much better imo

Ugh, I don’t understand how this headset has so many good reviews. I had them for a week and returned them . The MixAmp minus the surround sound is decent , but for $330CAD the headphones are terrible. Got the Phillips SHP 9500 with a Vmoda boom mic for $$150 and directional audio was much better. They sound pretty good for music too. They are also way more comfortable than those clunky A40’s.

I was waiting so long for this, asked about 3 times in comments to make this review. I ended up buying them around a month ago, I upgrade from the A20 wireless, its a huge difference. I love them. I got them without the mix amp, is it really worth getting it? I do streaming with this headset, and it sounds good as it is.

So I’m having a problem with my head set to wear I turn my chat volume up and my game volume goes down and vice versa for the game volume. How do I fix this I’ve tried everything and nothing is working, every time I turn the game volume up the chat volume goes up with it or either down??????? Don’t know how to fix this problem!!!!!

The Astro mix amp didn't pump out enough volume or presence for me. I paired my A40 with the *Sound BlasterX G6* and I was floored at the sound that came out of them. Much better amp/dac than the Astro mix amp.
oh yeah the G6 blows away the Mix Amp, big time!

I heard you need to update the mix amp on a windows 10 pc. Can you still do that without using a pc? Or do you even need to update it? I have a pc but I’m just curious in case for some reason I can’t update it.

I tried these without the amp and sent them back. They weren’t as loud as I expected on Xbox volume 100. Is it worth ordering them with the amp for better volume? Also felt without the amp that the bass was overwhelming.

How does it loose mic fucntionality on the PS4? Surely it should work if you put it into PC mode and choose chat audio only in the PS4 settings (along with optical) I use the Xbox version Astro A20s on my PS4 and it works 100% with game/chat balance to boot. On Astros website they say each version is for its respective console but its a lie, the Xbox version is fully compatible with the PS4. ,
Hi I want to use the mixamp pro on my ps5 and pc without switching g the usb over everytime. Could I run optical from TV to mixamp. Then use 2male to 1 female usb splitter(1 male to pc, 1 male to ps5 then mixamp connects to female?thanks
