Even if they're doing quite well, aren't afraid or dislike the grooming. As soon as the hoodie comes on, they all look like they're having war flashbacks.
So true
Yes THIS!
I think it's because the hoodie pulls back the skin of their face a bit, so it looks like their eyes are wide. Still very funny regardless 😂
"Reminds me of back in 'nom' - the bone wars"
you are so right! there eyes bcome huge! but they need to have it
I love the fact that the breeder actually cared about the animal rather than just the looks
It's baffling to me that people breed dogs to have, what are essentially defects, because it 'looks' better. It never looks better. 'Show dogs' is such a nonsense idea. All dogs are beautiful.
@@itsonlysound yes and no. When they first made dog breeds they were going for specific temperaments/traits that would help them do what they needed to(ie, herding instincts, a thicker coat due to climate, a wiry coat to protect from under brush). Seeing the best of the best compete wasn't really a bad thing. However, when dog shows started to become purely about "look" and not about ability (pugs can't breath they're so deformed usually, German shepherds are basically paralyzed due to the sloping back) it's so disgusting that I want to puke.
@@technicaldifficulties368 When dogs became a thing of "token/trend" to own this happended. You're very on point I would say.
At this point it's really too late for domestic dogs to get rid of all these problems they have without starting from the baseline all over again. Nature doesn't allow these problems to happen, that's how evolution works in the first place - I would be interested to see what the lifespan of a newly domesticated wolf breed would be like in the modern day just to see if millennia of thoughtless specialisation in selective breeding has decreased their lifespans much.
@@mnomadvfx There are many working line dogs with impeccable blood lines. Truly ethical breeders run extensive (expensive as hell) testing on any dog that might be bred. There are special hip/knee/elbow tests, genetic tests, temperament tests. If anything comes up the animal isn't bred regardless of bloodline. They also generally only have a couple litters. They're expensive as shit too. Most dogs you see with myraid health problems are from unscrupulous people breeding cash cows to sell unsuspecting people a 2000 problem. Being an AKC registered breeder means virtually nothing. It costs like 200 bucks. They don't check out the people they have on their websites, they rarely check on these "facilities". The AKC cares about money, not the breeds or the dogs.
I once met an older lady who complained that shepards with straight backs look too much like wolves.... like.... um that's where they come from!???
How is that a downside too? Wolf like body with a German shepherd's temperament and you've got the best dog breed
German Shepard wolves are the best!!! I consider them the ultimate pet ever!
I adore Wolves and would love a Wolfdog. However, I would be a first Time Dogowner without the Means to give those gorgeous Creatures the Live they deserve. So I settle for Plans of a GS and afmire the Wolfdogs from afar. Also, if GS with straight Backs look too much like Wolves, she should look at a Husky!
@Hellequin Maskharat I just remembered the name of the one I saw. His name was Rogue. He, fully, fit his name.

Good breeding and a solid temperament is clearly obvious in this dog as well. She is an excellent representation of the breed.
😂 Yes! That’s how our girl is. She may absolutely hate being at the vet or groomers, but she’s such a sweet, well-behaved dog, she freaks out only internally
Vanta Black is a fantastic name for a black german shepard
@Potato en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vantablack
Hopefully Anish Kapoor isn't gonna try to buy the dog and turn her into a weird beanshaped sculpture lol
The inventor is a giant prick though.
I suggest you actually look up the controversy behind that name and then re-evaluate your statement
The owner is obviously a fan of technology and the name suits a black dog very well. I worked with a predecessor of Vanta Black many years ago. DuPont had a black paint that used crystal fibers (not quite nanotubes) that would absorb all incident light. It was perfect for reducing (essentially eliminating) the internal reflections in a medical device that bounced light off a sample being measured. We'd machine the interior of the sample bay and then spray it with the DuPont "ultra black" paint (which cost almost $1,000/gallon) The result was eerie because all of the internal detail disappeared to the eye. Thirty years later we've got carbon nanotubes and even better absorption of incident light - it must be surreal to experience in person!
Vantablack is stunning. Her breeder did an amazing job with those hips and back. You are absolutely right in what you said: she is a remarkable ambassador for the breed!
I know right she's beautiful and love your vids!
@Klip One Her name means darkest black, it is a type of pigment that basically absorbs all light and looks otherworldly as if there is a hole in reality. objects look like you are holding a shadow and the dimension that should be on a dimensional object is hard to perceive.
Skayaaaaa
Hi Skaya 😮😊
When is skaya due for her appointment??!
I owe my life and the life of my then unborn daughter to my German Shepherd Sheila. I was 21, pregnant with my first child and my husband was often working very late. Our house wasn't isolated, but the neighborhood was new and not a whole lot of people came around. I wanted a dog that would act as a deterrent and that would be good with the new baby. We found Sheila, critically underweight and terrified with patchy coat and the whites showing around her eyes. My husband saw something that I obviusly missed and proclaimed, "Isn't she beautiful?" So Sheila became part of our family that also included a beagle named Hopeless (a dig at her housebreaking situation) and two cats. Sheila fit in instantly, although the cats were a bit uncertain. In six months of good food, lots of love, and hundreds of hours of obedience training she had doubled her weight, grown a new coat, and was utterly magnificent. At twilight one evening at the end of my eighth month two men came to my door purporting to be vacuum salesmen. They were most insistent upon coming in and blocked my closing the door with a booted foot. Then they withdrew the foot, and themselves rather quickly. Since there was no sound I had no idea what made those two white-faced men retreat until I looked behind me. There was Sheila. She had never made a sound, but she was "SMILING".
I had a similar situation while living in Maine. My vizsla stood beside me and prevented anything from happening.
Sheila you are awesome!!
When I lived in England(just o/s London) at my Sister's House,,she acquired twins,a boy&a girl,.. The female was Black&Tan and the Male was 'Jet Black' (like this one in the Vid)..Both long haired and striking to look at..They were great company&I might take them .out in the morning at 7(am) for long 'hike and not come back until midday!..And of course we weren't always walking,I would find a quiet spot&read!.. And when we arrived back, they were always in good spirits..But once home ,they turned into 'Top draw,' Guard Dogs'.. And for my sister, being on her own at times while her 'Hubby' was working,,it made a big difference..As u can attest to!

One of our family friends bred German Shepherds and he hated show-line breeding with a passion. He was working towards healthy dogs with straight backs and good hips+knees from the 80s onwards
show lines look like they have a slanted back literally because of how they stack. and I'm 100% sure whoever that is, is breeding unethically. lol.

@Nalesh Hewavithana Doesn’t matter what she’s a service dog for. As long as the dog is temperament tested and has the right temperament, it doesn’t always matter the breed.

@@s.a.l948 Yes, it's really gross that AKC "breed standard" for boxer dogs means amputating their tail.
I agree. I think that show standards need to be changed as well as having some sort of test to see if a dog can actually do it’s original job since that’s the idea behind a dog show.
Never buy AKC. They ruined the health of thousands of dogs.

Vanta is so well-behaved and just GORGEOUS! I love that she has a straight back and that you mentioned ethical breeding - like many others I think it's tragic that the breeding standards have led to health problems in animals, and I'm SO glad to see there are breeders around who are working to ensure that their dogs are healthier. Personally I always adopt from local shelters and rescues but it's truly encouraging that there are more ethical options for people looking for a specific breed.

I love the fact that responsible breeders are now breeding them with straight backs. It’s just wrong to breed for aesthetics that end causing issues & pain for the animal.

Have to agree that the practice of breeding dogs with health problems just for looks is MEDIEVAL
I like more "wolfish" looking dogs anyway! .... of course, if someone gave be a pug or bulldog or even a sharpei, OF COURSE I would love it. That's how much of a sucker I am for dogs.
... in medieval times such dogs wouldn't have survived, no this practice of show case breeding is modern
Actually, medieval people had dogs that were bred solely for working conditions, so they too would be the ones to be breeding their German Shepards with straight backs and good legs. They'd be so severely confused about why we're breeding them for looks over function.
No, medieval people were above that kind of practice
I know this video is over a year old, but I almost cried when made the statement about shopping ethically. So many people are blinded by the ‘adopt don’t ship’ mantra that well bred, quality dogs are getting higher and higher price tags to substitute for the people who assume buying ethically is bad. I’ve loved all of your videos ever since I discovered this channel, but I have to say- this one has a special place in my heart. You have such an amazing platform and you always use it to support adopting AND ethical shopping. YOU are the hero dog breeds need ❤️❤️❤️
We had a German shepherd and husky mix, and he loved being on duty. We didn't have a lot of tasks for him to work with, but he would just find his own work for us. Finding "missing" children in the house, guarding and watching us kids while we played outside, scaring off "intruders", knowing how to get back home with a simple command. He was a rescue, so it was hard to believe someone could ever give a dog like him away... I miss you Jack...
I'm 70 and I remember when I was a kid, German Shepherds were straight backed. I could get on my soap box and preach a long sermon about stupid show standards that have ruined some breeds (shepherds, pugs, bulldogs, and English Bull Terriers for example). Vantablack is a beautiful and healthy girl and the snotty breeders who say she isn't show perfect can go pound sand.
I like you ^_^
It's so bad! People mess up just about any animal. The latest craze is making cats have tiny stubby legs that can't move properly. How the heck do we end this madness?
While I am not for animals with genetic abnormalities that make it hard to live (like the dachshund or pug), apparently munchkin cats aren’t prone to any more health problems than a normal cat, nor have any breed specific problems. Not for or against Munchkins (I have a ‘mutt’ cat myself) but I thought I should put that out there.
@@aruemon3086 I've looked into it, but there's always going to be conflicting info for everything. From what I've read it's pretty awful. The majority of the litter doesn't make it (so said the breeders). They have joint and bone trouble, arthritis, behavioral disorders due to not being able to exercise as a cat should, sometimes their organs can also be affected by the mutated gene and fail them.
@@ZebraLuv Fair enough. It seems like you’ve done more research than me.
There NEEDS to be a modern day movement to update the existing standards of what each pure bred dog should look like. The updates should be in the best interest of the dog and focused on clearing out any standards that would bring long term health issues to its breeds.
Agreed. I wish we would just develop apnea head and neck features out of breeds. The amount of breeds that have that squished face boggles the mind.
I know that the British Kennel Club has put rules in place where by dogs have to be vet checked as well as checked by the judge and even if a winning dog passes the judge if the vet questions the dog's health then the best of breed for that dog is ceased for that year. They have also in recent years refused to include certain breeds in their shows until the breed becomes more healthy. I know that this is far from enough but it is a start.
In photos from 1800s, & old paintings: Pugs, Bostons, Bulldogs, etc looked so much better with muzzles! I do not understand how smooshed noses became a "standard". It's obviously unhealthy & ruins the dogs! How can breeders claim to love a breed when they insist on traits that cause suffering?
Yes!! Especially with docking tails/cropping ears on breeds like dobermans as well. There's no excuse for making a cosmetic surgery into a breed standard
All the AKC mainly cares about is collecting their fee for bloodline registration from breeders. They’ve actively lobbied against dozens of puppy mill reform laws in many states.
When I was 5yo I was impressed by a german shepperd who was watching me from his close gardent when I was walking in the street. The owner invited my mother an I in her house. What happyness to meet this so kind dog for a child It was a first lesson for me from an animal
Vantablack is a mighty fine and good looking German Shepard. I like the pigment in her coat. Her ears are great also.... For this to be her first groom she was well behaved!!!!............
It's so nice to hear someone talk about finding an ethical breeder - people seem to think they don't exist at all but you just have to be willing to put in the time to find one! As someone with allergies that can only stand to be around low-shedding "hypoallergenic" breeds, adoption in my area for such dogs is basically an impossibility. When it's time for me to have a dog, I know I'll be researching a lot before settling on a breeder.
Yes, exactly! There's even breeders breeding dogs like pugs and french bulldogs, trying to get their longer snouts back so they don't suffer breathing problems. Someone tell me that isn't good breeding.
actually you can look for hypoallergenic breeds to adopt like maltese f.ex, but you may have to travel to pick them up and also the dogs will most likely be adults or even older or mixes, not 100%. But you can still bond with them and they will love you :) If they have those more friendly for allergic people genes, chances are that you won't experience allergic reaction even if they produce some allergens
There are ethically bred show lines, most photos of show lines are them in a stack meaning their legs were pulled back to create a slope like shape.

There are 5 types of German shepherd! The working lines and show lines are very different dogs, working line or straight back can still suffer with hip issues. The original German shepherd was a straight back. The German show line which has a sloped back should not be confused with the American show line who’s breeders have taken the sloped back too far just to get a nice pose and trotting movement. The German show line is a far better breed compared to the American line, they do have the slope but it doesn’t mean they are doomed to poor hips. The German line has really really strict breeding standards. All shepherds are not born equal and if ever considering one it’s advisable to go for one with Eastern Europe lines.
I really home so too I think the pugs temperament is so nice but I’d never adopt one. Event the Pomeranian my family rescued from foster care has breathing problems because her nose is so small.
I agree! I saw some folks getting super *super* BIG MAD about that because 'well if they do that then it's not the same breed! I love the sound my pug makes when he breathes, it lulls me to sleep!' She is super calm. Really well trained. I got over my dog fear when my dad adopted a German shepherd, Sarge. I couldn’t escape her in the house. She was a super chill dog, even without training. All 4 of us kids under 10 would “walk” Sarge around the neighborhood. He always came home. My mother and I had to put him down when he was 15. My dad and brothers were away. Hardest thing I’ve done. that's a result of breeding sadly, does your shepherd have the brown and black coat?
Udita Bhattacharya brown, though he is terrrified mostly from being abused by a kill shelter. And who knows what beforehand.
@@potatolovesmoss7996 yeah that's probably trauma for you, can mess up the best living being. I hope he is doing better under your loving care and will recover. Thanks for taking him in.
HauptgefreiterB Hes doing much better, although he still gets scared from sudden noises he is such a good boy. It really was perfect timing when we found him.
That poor creature has PTSD. I'm sure with your love and care will do much better. If not, seek the help of a professional educator/psychologist, they do miracles with "difficult" dogs (or better, with dogs that have difficult pasts). Good luck and happy life to the two of you!
What a beautiful baby❤
Thank You for explaining the Back and Hip problems. If I decide to get a Shepard I will look for the straight back and straight back knees. A few years ago I lost my Black and Tan. He was such a gentleman and loved to play. His back hips got bad and he had a hard time walking. A year later he pasted in the middle of the night. He was sleeping with me on the couch, he kissed my face then stopped breathing, his heart stopped. I woke up with him in my arms, that's how he passed, in my arms. I still miss "Roof" he was 10 years and 4 months. He was my Best Friend and I was his.
I love how she’s named “Vantablack” If you don’t know, vantablack is the darkest shade of black, it’s freaky
It's also permanently associated with an artist who decided it would be fun so no one but him can ever use it for art purposes.
@@Shinzon23 for ANY purpose. No one in the WORLD can use it except the dick who shall not be named, because he is THAT much of a prick. Of course, Black 2.0 IS available to everyone in the world EXCEPT the dick that shall not be named, is cheaper and better for the environment than vantablack, and apparently smells nice too. So there’s that.
@@helenafarkas4534 but that's wrong.
@@Shinzon23 and this is why it's great that this is her name 🤣
Vertically Aligned Nano-Tube Array. ( ..sorry...I have an over-active pedantic gland..)
When I was 12 years old and scavenging for salamanders in my friends back yard… HAHAHAH I’m dying
When I was twelve, I would go to the pond next door and look for frogs, tadpoles and dragonfly nymphs. I once had a pet praying mantis and kept him in a fish tank. I spent a lot of time catching bugs for him to eat. Yes, I was a tomboy.
@@TheKyPerson No matter who you grow up to be I think everyone should have a childhood of catching frogs and bugs and crawdads. It's so fun
Thanks for having the courage to support healthy breeding ethics. The fit dog is the superior objective.
Vantablack is outstanding both in looks and personality. From this brief glimpse of her I would surmise that she is also a standout in her role.
Honestly, the stuff people did to animals like dogs and especially horses back in the day is heartbreaking. No animal should go through it for a human's amusement or fashion
Yeah, I own two dachshunds who are definitely victims of aesthetic breeding, and a thoroughbred. Thankfully my old horse is not plagued by more than bandy legs, but my friends almost all have younger steeds with congenital issues ranging from kissing spine to almost palpable psychosis.
Back in the day most of the dogs were healthy as they were all mostly working dogs. It's today that breeding is getting out of control and making dogs that spend their lives suffering.
Literally modern dog keeping
Agree!!!
Yeah. Rescued a Papillion/Chihuahua mix from a breeder who threw her out into the road because "she was a runt and didn't look right". She's one of the cutest, prettiest dogs I've ever seen. Her hair is all wispy and soft. I don't get what they were saying. People are so gross.
We had a German Shepard growing up that was from 2 police dogs so “working” line. Since she was an extra pup (ie, free!) we were super lucky to have her. And she lived to 16!
The breeders did a great job!
She is absolutely beautiful. I've had three rescue black German Shepherds and wouldn't consider any other dog now.
My boyfriend and I once owned a black German Shepard. His name was Black Magic. He had the most soulful brown eyes. He loved kids. He was especially watchful of my grandson who was diagnosed as being on the spectrum. He lived about 14 years. He passed away from kidney failure. He is truly missed!
“german shepherds are very courageous” *looks at my gsd who is afraid of earthworms* “yes, very courageous indeed”
To be fair, earthworms are pretty Eldritch. They’re small and cylindrical, slimy, move without legs, appear to not have a mouth or anus unless you know what to look for, have no eyes, can regenerate lost segments (to an extent), etc.
My boy hated thunder, guns, basically any loud noise lol
@@classicambo9781 oh yea he despises thunder so much that he makes everyone deaf while being the biggest baby
Back in the days my old Shepard was bred by military so he lived for seven teen years. We got him because he didn't not fit standard tests as puppy. So they allowed adoption. To this day we kept his ashes in small necklace capsule because that's how good of dog he was.
My working line Czech all black German shepherd looks and moves just like this black beauty! Such an amazing and loyal breed to the right owner. I’m so thankful for my shepherds. 💕
I’ve had a few German Shepherds, both had straight backs. My ultimate favorite dogs. What a beautiful girl Fanta is.
Dog shows and KCs have a lot to answer for when it comes to many dog breeds.
For anyone that is wanting a German shepherd, be warned that due to overbreeding and improper care of the breed a fair amount have behavioral issues. If cared for properly from pup, these can be nonexistent but in some rescues management of behaviors is key. Don't get any dog if you are not prepared for some work, both physically and mentally
Seconding this. I've got a rescue that just wandered up in the woods and she has ISSUES. A total smarty-pants sweetheart, but ISSUES.
Can't thumbs up this enough. My wife volunteered at a shelter and the number of pets they received because people were not prepared to care is depressing.
@@seapeajones my family rescued a Pomeranian this year from a foster and we were basically at the top of the list since we had experience with a Pom. Poor thing didn’t even know how to use the stairs and was so skinny when we got her. She’s using them now. It’s amazing to see her pop her head in my room and get zoomies😄
I have had 7 GSDs over the yrs, all but one were rescued. And out of all of them, only 1 really had behavioral issues, which ended up being caused by the fact that she was losing her sight. One ended up with pretty bad joint problems in his old age. The rest were all wonderful, healthy, intelligent dogs. I hope to never go without a GSD in my life!
Amen to your entire post. My black GSD is from a breeder and is basically my rescued GSD's therapist.
That doggo's coat glows in the final montage of shots. What a beauty.
I am happy to hear about breeders creating healthier dogs.
Vantablack has a beautiful black and shiny coat. She's perfect in every way, show dog or not. I love that how these dogs makes us happy whenever they wear the happy hoodie
The happy hoodie was intended for them, but really it's for us too
She looks just like my Corvus. His back is very nice and straight.
Great name.
Thank you for posting this video. Mine is a solid black Belgium shepherd. No health issues yet. He's almost eleven years old. Still gets mistaken for a lab. His first five years he was my cowdog. After my right foot was amputated I retrained him for my service dog. Those two months were a breeze. I even had to socialize him. I can't see myself without one at my side. A shepherd is a blessing. Enjoy many healthy happy years with your beautiful shepherd.
What an absolutely gorgeous black German shepherd!
She is a real beauty. Glad to hear that ethical breeders are looking out for the breed. Awesome job as usual. Love Dogs, and your videos.
She’s such a pretty pupper.
The dog is pretty cute too.
My son rescued a full black German shepherd. She is such a sweetie.
What a beautiful animal, and she didn’t utter a word! True courage.
I had no idea German Shephards could look like that! She's such a beautiful breed!
It makes me so happy to watch someone so dedicated to dogs not being mistreated or breed simply for aesthetic reasons. Your videos are very informative about every breed of dog you work with! As someone who has taken my dog to a groomer who mistreats animals and see's it as only monetary gain, it is so reassuring that there are people like you who are educating the public about so many different breeds while also taking care of their specific needs. Please never stop the great deeds you are doing and educating dog owners!
Aesthetic, I hate that damn word and I never bother to spell it right until now.
She looks like a sweet little old lady while wearing the happy hoodie. She’s beautiful!❤️🐾🚿🦴
What a beautiful, well behaved German Shepard , she seemed so docile and well behaved!!!
We have a black GSD named Joseph. We hear the “Is that a wolf?” question all the time.
Same over here we have a Black male
Aw, please give Joseph a scritch from me. It's funny when people mistake domestic dogs for wolves. A wolf is a LOT bigger than people think! (And not usually black all over, but can be.)
Same. The other day somebody asked me “Is he domesticated” 😆 Little did they know he has better manners than most people
@JayLeeBeanz I had no idea wolves were much bigger than dogs until I saw a video of wildlife people with one. I guess due to movies using wolf-like dogs rather than actual wolves?
@@klaasjelleeertink1923 me too, everyone seems so surprised to hear that a german shepherd can be black
She definitely has the temperament for a service dog, she was awesome for her grooming. Nice touch with the PSA on the breed for prospective adopters of a new family member.
Grew up with shepherds. Great animals great protectors awesome with children
I actually have a dog just like this German shepherd Frankie who is two. It’s great to see people that think her type of dog breed is beautiful instead of scary and intimidating, as that’s what we’re used to where I am
