@@red3here He didnt "Sign" for only a year, thats not how it works. He had 1 year left of arbitration when he was traded to the yankees. Anybody in his position would go into free agency rather than sign an extension. Doesnt mean he wont sign with them in the long run.

@red3here He didn't sign, he was traded from the Padres to the Yankees and Soto had a year left. He'll be a free agent after the season, unless Yanks sign him for a long term deal during the season which they could.
As a Nationals fan, I'm so happy for him. He's still beloved here. I watched all the Yankees games this weekend, but never when he was with the Padres, for whatever reason.
