Highlights from the #RoyalWedding.
"Imagine a world where love is the way."
American Bishop Michael Curry has captured the world's attention with a long and powerful address at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Chicago-born bishop spoke passionately about the power of love, quoting Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
"There's power in love, don't underestimate it," he said. The wide-ranging and colourful speech was seen as a significant break from tradition.
The Most Reverend Michael Curry became the first black presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church - like the Church of England, part of the Anglican Communion - when he was appointed in 2015.
He has spoken out on social justice issues in the past, including LGBT rights and sexual abuse.
The address, replete with historical references, had churchgoers, including David Beckham and the Duchess of Cornwall smiling. Others appeared transfixed.
The bride and groom, who invited Bishop Curry to speak, sat near the preacher and held hands as they watched him speak.

He would probably say "no I don't believe". But then what about the tattoo? Surely if you don't believe then you have nothing to do with it. • @@akosuakune371 we know how to be happy but I guess we are taught to contain ourselves as much as possible from an early age, I didn’t realise this until recently because if it’s all you’ve ever known then you don’t question it, but the more I’ve taken note of how people behave who aren’t from England the more I’ve noticed how reserved we are. Obviously everyone is different and some don’t care and be as loud and out there as they want. I’d say that the higher in class you are the more poker face you are expected to be. Of course this is an extreme as it’s the Royal Family so they are always expected to be perfect and show little to no emotion, because they are the highest class in society. That must of been hard for Meghan coming from America where they are a lot more open with their feelings.

It's clear that the congregation are uncomfortable, laughing at the man, and mocking him with their smirks and sly looks, but it was horribly cruel of Meghan to engage this man and let him think he could preach a sermon from the heart in such surroundings. I daresay if he'd been properly informed then he would have delivered a wonderful and appropriate address. It's such a tragedy however, that a Christian can't preach a sermon in a so called Christian country, in a so called Christian church, at a so called Christian wedding, without being vilified and mocked for being "weird and wacky".😢

The queen wants sermons of 7 minutes max, but this man doubled that. He made it all about himself. The facial and bodily reactions of the brits are all too revealing of how they felt.... Curry even quoted political figures. This is not a political gathering. He was irreverent, bombastic, theatrical and totally inappropriate

There are TONS of conditions, including at times, that you make sure you do not 'love mother and father more than Me', and even to 'hate your own life', at times. And it seems rebel angels were loved too - to keep powers, knowledge, and roam this world, whilst we are not trusted to make our own choices, without Adam and Eve altering our nature for us, first, curiously? In ways no angel ever had altered to them, before they made a choice - that Romans 1:20 implies was nonsensical anyway, especially in a perfect heaven.

  • I listen to a lot of sermons because I am a Christian. This was a simple yet passionate and refreshing sermon. If one was given less than 15 minutes to summarize what life was supposed to be, it could very well be summed up in this sermon. The enthusiasm and life given this sermon reflects the determination of the old Black Slave Spirituals and Sermons of the days when folks who were spiritually exhausted needed to be "revived" and spured on to seek greater things in order to endure the trials of life. These days the main distraction is complacency and disinterest. That particular crowd needed to hear such a message. I'm used to 45 to 60 minute, three point exegetical messages, so this one wasn't that long.

    • julie Wallis How was he given 6 minutes when the previous sermons at the royal weddings were between 9 and 11...? His preaching was 14 minutes, 3 minutes longer.... but who cares, did you understand the message at least? I don't think so, so go and listen to it over and over again until you can finally walk in love

  • As a Brit, I can fully understand how utterly 'alien' Bishop Curry's speech and loudness comes across - especially at a Royal wedding and in the presence of the Queen. We are just not that loud and brash and prefer to do things with a bit more quiet and with ease. However, this sermon was ultimately one of the highlights - especially seeing the utter bewilderment on the faces of Zara Tindall and Kate Middleton. William looked as though he was about to piss his pants with laughter and the Queen, bless her looked as though she was sucking a lemon! If anything, it was different and very American. I was both watching behind my cushion with my cheeks getting warm with embarrassment, but also rejoicing inside at the pure passion and conviction of the speech. Unforgettable to say the least....but has still left me scratching my head really lol 🖒. Chris (UK).

    • JOEY Smith It isn't her 'culture' now as she is confirmed as Anglican (Church of England). I don't know whether you bothered to read my initial comment properly but if you did, you'd have understood that I wasn't in anyway putting a mockery on the Bishop and the sermon - but simply said that it was very different to what us Brits are used to. We have our customs and unique culture. Chris (UK).

    • JOEY Smith One more thing, it isn't a 'Church' but a Chapel - St. Georges Chapel! This beautiful building has stood in Windsor for almost 700 years. What 'life' exactly needed to be put back into it? Could you enlighten me? Have you even been? If you had have visited this historic building, you would probably understand a little of its long history - including exactly what it is - a Chapel. Please, what began as a very sincere comment from myself regarding the culture difference between us and the Americans, has now been sullied by your idiotic and uneducated comment. If you're going to make comments regarding history and culture, firstly elaborate and secondly at least know what you're talking about (with the correct facts). Peace out, Chris (UK).

All the guy said is that they liked the sermon and that it was reflective of Meghan's heritage (which you also seemed to say). Don't know why you had to bash him as "idiotic" and "uneducated".
