    • Daniel Sadjadi +We have all slave blood and the blood of slave owners in us. We all have the blood of colonialists and the colonialized in us. And by the way just because some one has been oppressed don't mean they we never be an oppressor, in fact the opposite it true. This is how the cycle of child abuse continues. The experience of oppression is universal and does not give you magical qualities. By the way Africa is a mess today and it has nothing to due with the west. The African country that were never not colonized by the West is still one of the world's; Ethiopia. Africa is poor because of tribalism.

      @joetke@joetke4 жыл бұрын
    • @@joetke No, because his song was rendered beautifully by a choir of black voices on a worldwide stage. Regardless of what you think, this wedding, and therefore this performance, was important enough to be watched by people around the world. It's true that we can't be sure exactly how he feels, but that seems to be the honest sentiment behind this comment. Please take your screaming and politically charged statements elsewhere.

  • Love it! On paper, Stand By Me seems a simple song, and certainly Ben E. King wrote it with simple intentions: a love song to his partner at the time, Betty Nelson. Pop songs are seldom expected to mirror the lives of the artists who created them, but it certainly adds a sparkle to the song to know that Nelson would go on to celebrate five decades of marriage with the man who sang to her: “If the sky that we look upon should tumble and fall / All the mountains should crumble to the sea / I won’t cry, I won’t cry / No, I won’t shed a tear / Just as long as you stand, stand by me.” It’s especially fitting that a song about enduring love - a love able to survive, no matter what trials and traumas it encounters - was built equally strongly to stand the test of time.

    @GregMcLogan@GregMcLogan6 жыл бұрын
    • Actually Greg, if you read the origin of that song, it was a church hymn at the time which Ben E. King adapted. "Stand by Me" is a song, originally performed by American singer-songwriter Ben E. King, and written by King, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller. According to King, the title is derived from, and was inspired by, a spiritual written by Sam Cooke and J. W. Alexander called "Stand by Me Father," recorded by the Soul Stirrers with Johnnie Taylor singing lead. The third line of the second verse of the former work derives from Psalm 46:2c/3c

    • I truly do not believe that their troubles are about race. It’s about character. Harry and Meghan have both shown truly selfish characters since their wedding, and attacking Her Majesty the Queen when they KNOW she cannot retaliate is appalling. Families do have problems, but you don’t throw the oldest family members to the wolves especially when they’re in their 90s.

    • @@christinemillership1189 They are actually really close to the Queen. Harry and Meghan are pretty close to his grandmother believe it or not. Harry has even said that they were in contact over video call pretty regularly. She even got Archie a Christmas present. It’s really the other Royal Family members who are the problem, not the Queen. It’s not fair. It’s not fair because even if the Royal Family did anything wrong, no matter what, Meghan will always get the blame. Like look at Prince Andrew. We have proof that he was talking to underaged girls but yet he doesn’t get anywhere near the magnitude of hate Meghan and Harry get. I bet if he was black, it would be a different story.
