  • Hey Woody, Nice driving! Low range in the Paj only disables stability control (ESC), not Traction Control. And the beeping is a warning that the electric Hydraulic Brake Booster is running low on pressure from all the brake applications through constant use of traction control. The internet will have you believe it's an overheat but it's not. Eventually it just emits a constant beep when it is fully out of pressure and disables TC at that point. If possible you just pause for 20 secs and let it recharge. TC equipped Paj with a 2" lift is a lot more capable than most will dare give credit for.

  • Found this on the PajeroForum: "The beeping sound is not TC overheating as such, rather the warning buzzer (loud beeper) that tells you the pressure in the hydraulic brake booster (HBB) is very low. Each time the TC activates the brakes, a bit of 'pressure' is used up - and at a faster rate than the brake accumulator pump can replenish it. Extensive TC causes the pressure to drop to a low level (beeper comes on) and warns you the brakes are close to failure. Simply wait 5-10 seconds while the HBB pump recharges the brake pressure and it will stop. If you have ABS, you'll usually hear the HBB pump run for 2-10 secs when the car starts as it charges up the brake pressure. (quiet buzzing sound from rear drivers side of engine bay) If you want to hear what the warning beeper sounds like, (from memory) you do it by starting the engine for about 20 seconds, then stop it. Put it back to ignition on (but don't start engine). Pump the brake pedal about 20 times fairly quickly (i.e. in 10 seconds), and you'll hear the warning beeper come on. If you keep going you'll suddenly feel the brake pedal go hard - i.e. brake failure"

    • Sabretooth Barnacle Would the brakes being slightly uneven in their thickness add to that problem at all and run havoc with the wheel speed sensors ? I only ask cause i noticed on telegraph hill the wheel speed was going kinda mental when Woody had air and kinda put two and two together.

      @someyoungguy6990@someyoungguy69902 жыл бұрын
    • @@someyoungguy6990 I'm guessing the more time the wheels are in the air in a fixed time scale the quicker the brake accumulator will empty. I have no idea how the system works on the Pajero but I'm guessing when a wheel comes off the ground and free spins with the other wheel on the accompanying axle being nearly motionless the ABS unit realises this and starts to apply the brakes on the free spinning wheel in an attempt to divert the power to the grounded wheel. Given diesels use an auxiliary airpump to create vacuum for the brake servo the constant triggering of the braking system via the ABS is emptying the vacuum quicker than it can be created by the pump. So the only way around it is to minimise the free wheel time/fit a locker/simply wait a few moments for the vaccum to reestablish/modify vacuum system for quicker recovery?

      @SabretoothBarnacle@SabretoothBarnacle2 жыл бұрын
    • I know my lx470 does the same thing sometimes and petrol v8 normally up an extended climb. Bang on about the system, applies brakes to simulate traction on free wheel to get drive to both. It just heats whole system up. And just have to give it a few normally. I broke a wheel speed sensor and haven't bothered replacing it because i prefer no traction control. If your vehicle starts applying brakes while trying to get through muddy sections at speed can spin you around real quick.

      @no88o2@no88o22 жыл бұрын
    • @@no88o2 Thanks for clarifying, glad I got that right. I noticed on the footage that the system allows the vehicle to come to almost a full stop before it tries to correct so I'm not that sold on this method for maintaining constant movement when 4x4ing. I guess an old skool locker or more modern e-diff with lightening fast reaction times are the way forward. Either way the Paj (and Woody) did a very commendable job!

    @adrenalinerush91@adrenalinerush912 жыл бұрын
  • Woody, 1st gear low range and let it crawl. Low range only disables ESC, not Traction Control. It actually switches the traction control into an offroad mode. When you start to lose traction, feed it MORE power. That's how the traction control in Pajeros works, they'll start to brake the spinning wheels harder and feed that power to the wheel with grip. Should barely need to be touching the clutch. Takes a bit of getting used to but it'll go up just about everything.

  • A little known secret to 4wding that most people work out eventually is to try to always keep the front axle level especially if unlocked. Keep the front level and you'll have drive to both wheels. The rear will then follow a very close line. Another is to use the clutch like a light switch, ON or OFF, nothing in between. If it wants to stall use more revs, a bit of wheelspin won't hurt. Have fun.

    • Low ABS pressure. Instead of a vacuum booster these use an electric pump to build brake pressure and traction control bleeds this pressure off. Have tc going too long and it beeps. Keep going and it squeals and turns TC off. Pressure builds again and you're good to go.

  • As for that beeping... it's MATT - Mitsubishi all terrain technology. It's the off road traction system, uses the ABS system to lock up wheels it detects are free spinning so torque goes to wheels that are on the ground with grip. usually quite helpful. when it beeps it's a warning, the system is loosing track of what is grounded and what is free spinning, it then turns into a solid on alarm when the system disengages. Not to do with temperatures. It works in 4LLc by the way. Your alarm comes on alot more than average I would say. Loving the vids keep it up.

  • 4:02 far out, from that angle it looks like there's no chance in hell. This is going to be a sick episode! edit: 5:36 awww it's a proud and noble sight. Yeah the Pajero! Unreal work Woody, I don't envy you doing that with a manual.

  • One of the main differences you see between aussie 4wd videos and americans ones. Aussies 4x4ers run around the track bare foot or with only thongs on as minimum lol

  • A nice edit Woody..... this could have easily turned into an over the top episode. Well balanced. It certainly got the jealous juices flowing for normal, non-covid times. I'm reminded that many adventures exist in your own backyard that may have been dismissed as destinations purely because we don't acknowledge...our own backyard is millions of square kilometres.
