  • Ages ago my Bombay saved my life from a junk who actually broke my door using a crow bar and barged in to "complain" the music was too loud !The cat stood between me and the would-be offender all ruffled up ,teeth bare growling menacingly - at which he fled . Her picture has still pride of place on my mantle as her memory in my heart. Cats are magical creatures!

    • I know it's not a breed but I have a calico cat that is fierce. If she thinks I'm threatened she will attack. I am disabled and a woman I know attacked me with a full length mirror. Then stabbed me in the eye. Freya was on her face and back biting and scratching her. I was proud.

    • @@erickaforman387 It's good to find people with a similar experience ! People don't believe it when I say , Your own cat who loves you is more protective than a dog , since of course she hadn't had any training ! I pity those who say cats are motivated by self interest, they'll never have the chance to know. When I was in hospital with covid last year, my cat didn't eat or drink for 4 days. She ate on the 5th day when my fever broke ! She's a naughty half-blood Siamese , my son laughs with her antics and says she's my familiar ! This depression spell was the last thing one could expect from her. Some times I feel I don't deserve so much!

    • yes we had a big orange cat called micky, he saved my mother and his sister from a bulldog who came into our garden. the same way. the dog had already bitten a cat to death. before that i never knew cats did that too. now we have a brother and sister of 4 months and the brother is very protective about his sister, that is really cute.

  • Sphynx are high maintenance cats. They do require regular grooming and bathing. Dental care is very important in this breed as well. I used to raise them, and have 4 elderly former breeders. They range in age from 17 to 21 years. They see the vet every 6 months because of their ages, but a younger cat needs a yearly checkup. They also like warm surroundings, and don't do well in the cold. They are an active cat and will remain active into old age with proper care. One thing though---don't let them sit in the window in the sun for prolonged periods. They can get skin cancer. (Jan Griffiths).

  • As a large breed dog owner for most of my life, I think it's hilarious that my first cat is a Bombay. His name is Conjure and he's genuinely the sweetest lunatic you'll ever meet. I got him a tabby brother I named Steve and they couldn't be more opposite. Steve is sugary sweet and dopey and together they remind me of Pinky and the Brain or Ren and Stimpy. Never a dull moment and I love them so much 😻

  • My Siamese boy chats all the time. He does a daily morning monolog in our hallway, walking back and forth for about 30 minutes every single day. We don't know who he's calling for. He has a half Siamese sister and two tabby sisters and they just ignore him. His Siamese sister is super quiet and barely meows ever. We love them all and they're so much fun, all playful and loving.

  • Whatever breed of cat you're looking to adopt, be sure to "meet and greet" with them first before drawing up the paperwork. If you can, sit on the floor to be on their level. Not only are you showing yourself to be both trusting and friendly, but you're also getting to see if they charge/attack, approach/investigate, avoid/hide, etc. Cats are not decorations, so make sure their personality is as good as their looks. . Only reach out to touch them if they approach you first, and do so with the back of your hand, letting them sniff and approve (sneak attacks can often result in bites or scratches). Take things slow at first, feeling each other out. Try to avoid overwhelming them by bringing the whole family in at once. Start with the primary caretaker and go from there.

  • My cat ones tried to save me from stray dogs. I feed stray dogs on our street outside our compound wall and my cat used sit on the wall to watch me from above. One day a new dog saw me feeding and came to eat. There was an altercation among the old dog and new dog and suddenly they were starting to get aggressive on each other. Instinctively i stepped backwards. Out of nowhere my cat jumped in middle of the fight startling everyone including me and charged at both the dogs all puffed full of claws. Both dogs stopped fighting confused and backed away. I was so afraid they would bite my cat but she was in control the whole time, immediately took the high ground. Fortunately nothing happened and we hurried inside.I had never seen her so protective. I always thought she would hide first because that's what cats do generally. That was the day of enlightenment.I am soo proud of her. Cats are truly fascinating 🤩 and majestic creatures.

  • I had a Abyssinian and Oriental short-hair cross for 15 years. He was my absolute favorite cat over 60 years. He was beautiful and very affectionate. He liked to ride around on my shoulder and sleep under the covers in my armpit. While he had short sleek fur, he did shed quite a bit. Like the Siamese, whom he resembled in form, he was very vocal. He was also my smartest cat and a mighty hunter! I was always finding "presents" from him, including: mice, birds, gophers, and snakes😂 He was a very active and curious cat, and I will miss him forever!❤

  • I have a frail, elderly, truly feral black DSH, with a clipped ear and 7 pounds of love. My 2nd cat is a sweet natured tabby, who once was my son’s until the horror of paranoid schizophrenia descended onto his brain. My son’s been missing/homeless for 6 years so these cats are all I have left of him. I saved my Bombay for last, acquired via a different route. YES I’m glad to be a very experienced cat owner! As it is I’m the FOURTH owner of the Bombay, all before 2 months old! Nobody who took a chance on a tiny kitten could handle him! He’s now 7yo and a bigger challenge than the other 20 cats I’ve had all together. He really plays hard, but also climbs straight up our many bookcases and empties entire shelves, I’m talking daily! His vocabulary is huge. He (Ragnar) reestablishes his dominance 1st thing every morning. He has the shiniest and smoothest coat I’ve ever seen. ✨

Unfortunately, as I type this, she is not doing good. I'm waiting on bloodwork from the vet. I got her when she was 6 months old on Christmas Day in 2008. She's 14 and a half (Born 7/25/2008). She is my baby. I'm so afraid I'm going to lose her. Please pray for her. Her name is Savanna. I'm 60 yrs old. I'm not ready to lose her. Please pray for my baby.

She picked us when we walked into the cat room and she gave head bumps to our daughters. Her second night she brought a broken hair tie into our room and started crying because she wanted to play. Three years later she still brings her little stuffed lamb into the room every night. She's always been gentle with our kids and will patiently wait for them to put her down. I know some cats can be serious buttheads and Im happy my daughters will have a great pet experience growing up.

  • Savanna cat, they’re beautiful but would not blend into my family of cats very well. They would love my enriched environment I build for my cats. On the other hand I don’t think they would be happiest with me. I need couch potatoes. Oh I have one little girl now, who loves to hang out but does not like to be touched or handled, except on a rare occasion when she ask for it. Then when she’s done she’s done. I respect her parameters, I think that’s why she likes to hang out with me. PS: I am fascinated with the fact that when Angel, the girl that doesn’t like to be handled, gets out and I have to capture her and when I pick her up to carry her inside she complains and lets me know exactly what she thinks of it but she does not bite or scratch. In the house if I should pick her up she’ll complain and almost simultaneously let me know with a bite or scratch that she does not want to be held.

  • Another breed not for first-timers, isn't even officially a breed. Some folks call it the "Texas Tabby". Rumor has it, that they are a cross of bobcat and domestic tabby. They are larger than the common tabby (ranging around 20 pounds) with an unusually large primordial pouch, and truly gigantic claws. In many ways, they are similar to a Bengal. But, these are wild cats. Yet, they really enjoy the company of people, and don't mind being totally indoor cats. Kittens will actually go door-to-door, looking to be adopted. They don't like being alone---preferring either the company of people, or other cats. Depending on how they are raised/socialized, they can be either the sweetest cat in the world, or meaner than sin. That's why they are not good for first-time cat owners.

  • I've had Siamese since I was 3 years old and love that breed . My last cat was a Bengal who was indeed a cat who needed a lot of attention . E used to follow me around like a dog and was very loyal . After my wife died almost 7 years ago , I bought Juni, the F5 Savannah in my avatar photo .The description of her personality given here is almost a perfect match . I took over a year before she really started bonding with me. But believe me , it was worth the wait . She has traveled thousands of miles with me loose in our SUV, goes shopping with me and even to restaurants in her clear backpack . She's not cuddly most of the time but she constantly keeps guard over me in her love. .She as good a companion as I could ask and the expense of getting her (thousands of dollars) was worth every single cent. Besides, the cost of getting her was long ago eclipsed in the things I bought for her , like maybe a travel trailer and a few other tings. But really, I'm not obsessed or anything ....

  • I've got Bengals and Savannahs, F6 (6 generations removed from the Asian Leopard Cat and the Serval respectively). They're nothing like the F1 in the video. Though they require thick skin while kittens, and aggression should always be deterred, they're never the ones to start fights in the neighbourhood. They're also not much like any other cat race I've ever known. They're like little folks, the closest thing to fairy tale creatures you can get, highly intelligent, very affectionate, interacting and talking with you. Like wolves vs dogs, they may challenge you for the position of head of the family as young adults but the dispute is relatively short and possible to resolve.

  • There was a posting from one of the new administrative personnel of an organization to which I belong. She captioned it with words to the effect: "Say, hello, to our new pixiebob." I have family members who had been active with the pixiebob breeding program, practically from its inception, so I know one when I see one. The posted picture was of a mostly white cat with brown and black spots. I emailed the woman and tried to tell her in the gentelest way that perhaps she had a Japanese bobtail, as pixiebobs are strictly variations on brown tabby patterns. The behavioral characteristics are also different. Pixiebobs are considered "doglike" in their behavior. I had a neutered male that walked on a leash, played tug of war and fetched, and he also loved to play with the water from a trickling garden hose.

Our current 2 will be our last. We are getting to the age where taking top care is getting difficult. (cats win the lottery when they come here) and we fear not being able to give them the home they deserve. Getting old is not fun.

  • My current kitty is a Brown Tabby. She is a rescue and has to be the sweetest cat I ever had! I got her at about 18mos at Petsmart. The was rescued and had 5kittens who had already been placed. "Sweetie" ,appropriate name, is playful, gentle, beautiful coat. Her only issue is she is extremely timid and I am the only one she will come to. Even when my son comes over frequently she hides a lot. Loud noises,etc. scaredy cat!! Of course some of this may be due to her early life.

The cost of these cats though is waaay out of my league. When I discovered the Egyptian Mau I was in love though! The wild look without the wild blood was a purrrfect fit for me. They are playful and affectionate and very intelligent as well as beautiful! I currently own 2 of them. My life is complete.

It took 2 years before the male bengal cat suddenly one day crawled up and did lay down in my lap :) Before that they would barely let us touch them and the female cat still is very shy 10 years later.

As they arrived at different times they are not very friendly towards each other, but they get on okay. They live both indoors and outdoors. Always being inside at night. I suggest look for a cat that needs a home first before buying a particular breed.

  • The cats shown as Siamese were pathetic. Way too heavy in build, and too fluffy. Siamese are slender, and have a tight coat without an undercoat. Their coats should look like they were sprayed on. (Jan Griffiths).

    @douglasgriffiths3534@douglasgriffiths3534 Жыл бұрын
    • Some of them shown are a bit _too_ fluffy to be considered Siamese, but there _are_ two types of Siamese. The Modern Siamese is the one with a super angular figure and sleek coat, whereas Traditional Siamese have a less extreme body type and are allowed to be a bit fluffier.

      @HaunaMyKiki@HaunaMyKiki Жыл бұрын
    • @@HaunaMyKiki The so-called traditional Siamese are crossbreds. They came from people trying to save their bloodlines back in the 1940s during WW2. These "Siamese" are outcrops. The regular Siamese has always been angular with a tight coat. Looks have changed over the years. (Jan Griffiths).

Not being top of the food chain, you need to be alert at all times. They are really pets for the experienced owner.

  • I don't think a y of the cats featured as Bombay cats are actually Bombay cats. A true pedigree Bombay has amber/golden eyes- never green. So if your black stray has green or green tellow eyes, it's not a Bombay, however much you might wish it to be.
