Today, we take an in-depth look at what it's actually like to buy and own an incredibly cheap Tesla Model S. My friend Rex bought a 2016 Model S 90D with low miles, and it seems like a great deal, but we visit the electrified garage for a checkup and we find some interesting discoveries.

  • 17k for a facelifted Model S with AP 2.0 hardware is amazing deal! I has 2015 with AP1 hardware for 40K in 2018 with Certified Pre-owned warranty from Tesla, but I didn't have newest AP hardware or newer processor. It was fun to drive and had free supercharging, but only 220 miles of range if I was lucky. Took it all around the state and country for free and sold it two years later to dealership for the same price as I bought it for because they didn't check Autocheck where it showed minor accident before I bought it! 🤷🏽‍♂️ Sold it because it was fun for a while but then it actually got boring to drive. Plus I didn't feel like paying Tesla tax for parts and when a door handle is $1000 to replace, you know there was about to be some pricey repairs once it was out of warranty

    • I had a '14 S85 and exchanged it for a '18 Model 3 dual motor (with acceleration boost). the 3 is faster but I miss the comfort of the S. Main reason I sold the S is because of it's motor configuration it wouldn't 1-pedal drive which is something I really wanted. Sold that S 2 years ago for $35k which is what I paid for it. Don't ask what the used 3 cost :(

  • Not sure how regenerative braking is any worse for the tires than regular braking

    @Enderlad@Enderlad10 күн бұрын
  • If you accelerate and regen-brake the same way you would with an ICEV, the amount of tire wear should be almost exactly the same if you weigh the ICEV down to get similar total weight and weight distribution. It isn't the regen that is wearing tire down, it is the torque (my mother is the only EV driver I know who doesn't have a lead foot on initial acceleration - though she used to have a lead foot too in her younger years) and weight. While you can get your battery refurbished instead of paying stupid prices for a new one, you have no definitive way of knowing how long the refurb will last until the next cell goes bad. IMO, there needs to be modular battery pack standards so batteries can be replaced or upgraded one off-the-shelf module at a time.
