The flooding of the USS Texas to increase the range of its guns did happen, but it wasn't on D-Day (6 June 1944). It was done on 15 June 1944, 9 days after the landings. The ship's starboard torpedo-blister was flooded to give the ship a 2 degree list, allowing the range of her 14-inch guns to increase just enough to complete the fire-support-mission. During D-Day itself, the Texas and destroyers came in close to Omaha Beach to knock out enemy positions pinning down the 1st and 29th Infantry Divisions, as well as companies of the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions. The Texas came within 3,000 yards (1.7 miles) from the beach, blazing away with her guns. Destroyers, like the USS Emmons (DD-457) came much closer, up to 1,000 yards (0.57 miles) or less, taking out bunkers and other positions, thereby allowing troops to get off Omaha. One strange event did happen worthy of mentioning, an M4 Sherman tank lost a track on Omaha, but was still firing its 75mm gun at the bluffs. USS Frankford (DD-497) couldn't use their gunnery optics to spot targets, because they are too close to shore. When the Frankford's officers noticed the tank engaging a target on the bluffs, the ship's gunners were directed to fire where the tank fired. Their salvo knocked out the position. The tank commander popped out of his hatch, waved at the Frankford, and went back down. Through the day, the tank became the ship's fire- control party.

Everyone has heard the story of a Korean Battery hitting the gunshield of the USS Wisconsin only to be replied by 16 inch shells, but it has nothing on USS Texas. On D-Day, after USS Texas destroyed it's original targets, it got tasked with targets of opportunity, one of which was COUNTER SNIPING German Snipers. They nuked a singular German sniper with a Salvo of 10 12 inch shells, because some guy on the beach decided using a sniper or Destroyer wasn't punishment enough for that sniper.

It's not as uncommon as you think. While most people thinking of using another sniper to kill enemy sniper, one of the most common method of counter sniper is to bombard the whole area with heavy machine guns or artilleries.....continuously.

@@Mamorufumio It’s set to be sent to a dry dock for repairs either late November or early December. Structural repairs have been done to prevent the ship from collapsing in on itself when taken out of the water, and many of the compartments have been made significantly more water tight. Just a few more months and she’ll be in a dry dock getting repairs while a dry berth is constructed for her.

@TheRussianBadger the displayed ship at 3:07 is an LCS. Not a frigate. Frigates are capable of going over seas LCSs, or Litoral Combat Ships, are not and are made for shallow water combat.

Pretty sure the "British are good at setting things on fire" is a reference to British use of fire ships during the Age of Sail. They'd take an outdated or badly damaged ship, lash the rudder in place, load it up with tar and garbage, then set it on fire and aim it at enemy ship formations.
