We're up to movie commentary and reaction number 4 in our Twilight Saga series. This one was honestly kind of slow. It had some good moments but, overall, felt like it was a little lacking in story. We've got one more movie commentary and reaction video in this series and then it's time for something new! we hope you enjoyed this commentary and reaction for Twilight Breaking Dawn part 1

  • This is legit one of the wildest films I've ever watched. To a point where it almost makes it a classic. It's absolutely bonkers. A mainstream franchise-movie for teen girls goes from a cheesy wedding+honeymoon to a modern adaption of Rosemary's baby, chock-full with disturbing body-Horror and an even more disturbing CGI-baby that Jake even more disturbingly finds his soulmate in. Like, I don't know if it's one of the worst or best movies ever made 😂 What a trip.

Between that girl the books or Leah Stephanie Meyer had many instances of giving Jacob an age appropriate love interest. Or maybe has Jacob use his chief blood to make an order to protect the baby from the pact and then ironically when Renesmee became of age, have her fall for one of the wolves then. There are several ways of handling the reuse with the wolves and making it so Jacob doesn’t have to imprint on Renesmee

It makes sense that they could fall in love and see things they never noticed about each other before, they really do have so much in common it would've been a beautiful parallel. I know they genuinely care about Bella, but it just makes me feel awful that part of their motivation for protecting Bella is to protect Edward since he will literally kill himself if she dies. They don't want to lose their son/brother that they've known and loved for centuries over a girl he just met freakin two years ago. It's just sad.

In fact, Carlisle made most of his family miserable just so he wouldn't be alone for eternity, he's doing the bare minimum here. The rest of the Cullens are the ones I feel sorry for, like Rose that didn't want to live a life like that and was both r-worded to almost death and then reborn as a vampire solely bc people found her pretty and wanted to use her (sexually in the case of her fiancée, romantically bc Carlisle turned her hoping she'd suddenly date Edward for some reason. He didn't even know her lol he literally found a pretty girl dying and thought "hey! This will be the perfect bride to my forcefully adopted son~!")

  • The most problematic thing about imprinting is that, despite it being billed as a protector/brother thing in the beginning, it's obvious that if the imprintee WANTS it to be romantic or sexual later in life, the imprinter will want it too. So basically...this is grooming. 🤮

    @randomsoprano85@randomsoprano853 жыл бұрын
    • Worse, it’s definitely about ideal sexual pairing. The imprinter will be what she “needs” at any given time, but they’re supernaturally sexually bound, which is why Jacob was able to joke about calling Edward Dad. As gross as it is that Jacob fell in love with a baby, it’s pretty horrifying that they both were stripped of free will and consent. And when Jacob was unable to tell Bella about being a wolf, he literally couldn’t, not just that he was forbidden, but he literally could NOT speak the words. So we know that, in this world, your actions can be taken out of your control, which is HORRIFYING.

At that time, leaking fake versions of book sequels was a thing so there were a few "Breaking Dawn" manuscripts floating around. Because of this, almost no one believed the leak was real. The plot was so ludicrous and the creative decisions were so baffling people were SURE it was an elaborate fanfiction that had been passed off as a leak. • The ending to Stephenie Meyer's plot and world building is just so bad. The implications, that Meyer either didn't realize or just didn't care about, is that Jacob was mainly attracted to Bella cause she was going to be the mother of his Soulmate. So does that mean their whole friendship/romance is based on her having an egg cell that was magnetically drawing in Jacob? If Edward and Bella never met, got married, and had their daughter would Jacob just never imprint? On top of that doesn't this it imply that Bella made the right decision to choose Edward, because he loves her and not this magic egg cell? And do Bella and Rosalie really like each other now or is Rosalie just SUPER baby crazy? Cause she straight up leaves Bella dying to go cuddle the baby as if her brother is not crying over his dead wife in the other room. It still makes me laugh/despair at how slapped together this plot/world seems to be...

    @NewFoundLife@NewFoundLife3 жыл бұрын

  • I'm very uncomfortable with the fact that Leah, Rosalie, and Bella had serious problems with motherhood, and their bodies changing forever without a choice but the story only chose to focus on the two white girls. Whenever they told their story the characters are solemn and respectful but whenever Leah says anything they're like "ew shut up about your stagnant uterus and real concerns can't you see I'm listening to the haunted porcelain doll?".(Also the fact that this movie has a character who is a sterile native American woman shown in a negative light is very much yikes.)

    @rebecky5ever@rebecky5ever3 жыл бұрын
    • I mean it wasn't as bad in books, and actually was important plot point? It's the movie choice to minimise her character involvement to the bare minimum, which I would assume is because it isn't the most important part of the story - opposite to Rosalie and Bella's storylines.

    • @@mjm3091 There was absolutely no need to treat Leah like shit or to make her infertile. As an infertile woman, it pisses me off how infertility is treated as some sort of punishment for being less than somehow, though for Bella, she was just so good and pure and perfect that she had to be The Special One. Even if vampire women were infertile (but not the men...!), how does that have to relate to wolves? Meyer just needed characters to dump on. She admitted making one of Bella’s friends to be a punching bag in place of someone she wouldn’t name who she had problems with in school.

      @Author.Noelle.Alexandria@Author.Noelle.Alexandria3 жыл бұрын
    • @@Author.Noelle.Alexandria I mean Meyer is Mormon, so it is self-explanatory. However, I do think there is logic behind making her infertile. Mostly due to the fact that wolfism over history was supposed to be male only trait, which could mean she was intersex person or that wolf itself made her be more manly. But what I think is the most likely - is the extreme amount of hormones that made 12-15 years old kids mature in the span of few weeks. Human physiology is very fragile - especially female reproductive cycle can be affected strongly by hormones. I haven't read books in years, but I do think they treated her much better in books, at least when it comes to more delicate topics like these? Also Bella was always the self-insert character, where Leah was the tragic heroine in the patriarchal society. The way she is treated kinda fits the reality of how women have been and are treated over the history. The only issue here being that in movies we didn't get happy ending for her, even if it is implied there should be one, with how popular imprinting is in the modern wolf pack.

    • Wait did she actually cause that’s so sad…

      @desaririaz1302@desaririaz130211 ай бұрын
    • @Desari Riaz Yeah. Seth's personality, the way he smiles all the time, the way he has this natural happiness about him. It all reminded her of Jacob. I think she described Seth when he greeted Jacob and Bella at the council meeting bonfire. The movies left out a lot of friendship aspects they had in the books and made the Jacob/Bella look way more one-sided than it was. That's why her confession to loving Jacob at the end of the movie Eclipse doesn't work well, at least in my opinion. They practically spent every day together pre-wolf. Even after they decided to stop doing the motor cycles. He was her best friend. His smile pulled her out of her darkest days. He was the guy who made her feel better. In the book, THAT was the Jacob that Bella fell in love with. The pre-wolf Jacon in New Moon. She even considered truly moving on to find some happiness as she could (despite losing Edward) with Jacob right before Alice showed up. She just didn't realize she was already in love with him until Eclipse. They even eventually acknowledge (I think in Breaking Dawn book) that if the supernatural didn't exist in their world. They were their "human" soulmates, so to speak. That's why she was so worried and protective over him in New Moon. First when he disappeared after the movie theater incident. Then when she finally figured it out and went to his house to see him and slapped Paul. In face, the reason stopped and stared at sleeping Jacob after barging in his room was because of how gentle and innocent he looked as he slept. It was HER Jacob, not the rage filled Jacob the last two times she saw him. Then when he visited her before that to try and find a way to tell her but couldn't, and she's grets angry about whatever Sam was doing him. She even offered to run away with him without a second thought just to keep him away from Sam. She knew he hated being a wolf and how much it changed him, and so did she. During the time when Jacob was hunting Victoria so he was gone a lot, Bella's depression started getting bad again, which led to the cliffs incident. Because she didn't realize she's in love with yet, she contributed most of it to Edward because well, he was the cause of her depression in the first place and she's still in love with him. Later, when Bella and Jacob are in the truck, they almost kiss. Before that when she first curls up to him and comments how warm he is. He tells her, "It's a wolf thing," and she says, "No. It's a Jacob thing. You're just warm. You're like your own sun." He then tells her his fears of snapping then hurting Bella, and that'll he'll disappear (lose who he was pre-wolf). Bella tells him that. The Jacob she was constantly trying to remind him of and desperate to hold onto is the Jacob she fell in love with. That's why a lot of fans of the books refer to Twilight as Edward and Bella's lovestory (a fast, passionate, whirlwind rollercoaster), while New Moon is meant to Bella and Jacob's lovestory (more slow paced, but more balanced and natural). Eclipse is the official love triangle story of theIn Eclipse, Bella eventually figured it out, but Jacob & Edward knew it all along. Jacob knew it. In the book Eclipse, Jacob actually had grown his out a bit, and it had a shaggy look to it. Bella also noticed that his wolf hair was longer than the other wolves now too and asked him if it was connected. He tells her that that was why they cut their hair when they become a wolf because it affected their wolf's hair as well. When she asks her why he stopped cutting his hair, he tells it's because he knows she preferred long-haired Jacob. He knew she loved him more before he became a wolf. He knew that the old Jacob he was feared of disappearing was slipping, and it was driving Bella and tried to physically go back to long-haired Jacob. Whenever Jacob had that "wolf attitude" in Eclipse, Bella would would get annoyed or upset, but old Jacob would come out (or at least post-wolf Jacob in New Moon when he had more balance a better long-haired Jacob and wolf Jacob, but Edward coming back and Bella choosing Edward over him kinda tipped the scales) and Bella would soften and you could tell she really missed him. Honestly, inthe books, the whole Bella/Jacob relationship is actually a lot sadder when you really think about it. Edward knew Bella was in love with Jacob, too. That was the main reason he tried to keep Bella separated from Jacob and went to the extremes to do it (i.e., bribed Alice to spy on Bella and let him know whenever visions of her disappear because it would mean Bella was planning to go see Jacob and he could swoop in. And mess up her truck so she couldn't go). During the tent conversation while Bella was "sleeping", they both kinda acknowledged that she IS in love with them both and kinda have a "may the best man win" moment. Bella actually thought she dreamt the whole conversation. What Jacob didn't know, though, was that Edward had the trump card. That's why Edward purposely dropped the engagement bomb, even though Bella told him she didn't want him to know yet. It wasn't until Bella and Jacob finally kissed forreal that she FINALLY realized that she was in love with Jacob, and in the book, while they kiss, to her shock, she ends up imagining her life with Jacob, and that when it finally clicked. In the Breaking Dawn book, when Edward is talking to Jacob trying to convince to convince Bella to get rid of the baby, Edward offers in exchange that if Bella decides that she wants to have a baby, he would let Bella have a baby with Jacob. Honestly, the movies leave A LOT of important stuff from the books, in general, in my opinion. Like, don't get me started on leaving the important detail in Rosalie's backstory in Eclipse that leads to Bella calling Rosalie when at she was at the on the way back home because she knew that she was going to need an ally and that despite their history and difficult relationship, Rosalie would jump to protect and defend her and her baby. But the movie Eclipse leaves out the very important story/flashback in Rosalie story that was in the books that set up Bella making that decision and making that secret phone to Rosalie when she gets a moment away from Edward at the airport in Breaking Dawn. Anyways, sorry about the rambling. The ADHD kinda kicked into overdrive and spiraled, and by the time I realized it, I was more or less too late lol...

  • Meyer fucked up the “It’s Bella’s choice” thing so goddamned bad. It’s definitely a pro-life stance wrapped up as choice when it’s not. It was pure luck, and nothing else, that she didn’t die. Usually if a woman dies while pregnant, the fetus dies as well. Bella presumed that the baby would survive even though chances are it would not have. So Edward wouldn’t have had “part of her.” It was only luck that she managed to live long enough for him to bite her and inject her, though why didn’t biting into her to get the baby out count as biting? Regardless, she was willing to have both her and fetus die as long as she could have what she wanted, which was to be better than everyone else. She could have guaranteed Edward that he’d have her, but even though she was dying, would rather take a substantial risk that he’d have no one. When she makes keeping a pregnancy look selfish, it’s been fucked up badly. Bella literally never, EVER thinks about anything other than what SHE wants.

He offered to take me to part 2 when it came out a year later, and a few months ago we re-watched the saga again on DVD. I remember he couldn’t find the DVD for this movie and he was genuinely frustrated, I suggested we skip it and he said “NO. I have to find it I know it’s in the garage somewhere.” We eventually found it and finished it. For how toxic it is, if you shut your brain off it’s great cringe with an A+ soundtrack you can re-watch every few years.

  • I think it's actually set over three years, because in the book Bella (inevitably) complains about being nineteen, a year older than him. As for the (horrible) imprinting, in the books Bella brought up the question of what if the person being imprinted on had no interest? And it was described that though it would massively hurt, the person doing the imprinting would stay away, because it literally is being whatever they need them to be. However it hasn't yet happened because, as said in the book, "It's hard to step away from that kind of devotion". As a perfect example, Emily was furious that Sam had "chosen" her over her cousin Leah, and at first rejected him, causing him to lose it for that split second and, well we all know what happened there. But even with those two, they ended up together. So yeah it's creepy and horrible and ugh, but if Renesmee never had any romantic interest in him when she got much older, then there'd be no such relationship. He'd be whatever she needs him to be at any point in time. Great reaction as always guys! Looking forward to the last :D

    • If I remember correctly (it’s been quite a few years since I read the books), she was upset that everyone was celebrating her 19th birthday, which happened to also be the day she awoke from her transformation, when technically she had “died” three days beforehand. So in her eyes she was still 18, which while still “older” than Edward in the sense of when their bodies transformed, was still acceptable to her. To her though, the thought of being (gasp) 2 YEARS OLDER than your significant other was just flat out unacceptable lol So to sum it up, she met Edward at 17, her 18th birthday was at the start of New Moon, and she turned right before she turned 19, so it’s been like 2 1/2 years I’d say, if you wanna be EXACT. If you wanna round it up, then yeah it’s been 3 years :)

      @StephyDee@StephyDee3 жыл бұрын
    • @@StephyDee Nope. Her birthday is September 13th, but use school timing to get it right. She and Edward met after she moved to Forks after Christmas of her Junior year, when she was past the 17.5 year-mark since it was closer to the end of the year (if you know about baseball spring training, and line that up with what was going on with her step-father, she moved in about April). She turned 18 on September 13th of their senior yer, and were married summer after graduating, in August, when she was almost 19, but not quite. At the LONGEST, from meeting to married, that that’s 16 months, and for 6 of that, they had no contact at all. At most, another three months for Renesme. Everything else that happened happened over about 6 months more. So she was past 17.5 when they met, and was a vampire before turning 19. If you wanna be EXACT. If you want to round up, the entire story took TWO years. I’m not even a fan of this shit, and know it better than a lot of people claiming to be fans.

  • I was looking forward to 2 things in this film that were in the book, and neither was included. The first is when Bella questions Edward about being covered in feathers when she wakes up and he replies "I bit a pillow." In the book he also tells her that she didn't notice the destruction of the bedroom because she is completely oblivious and way to self-involved during sex. He delivers the observation with some teasing, but later when Bella realizes how many pillows were actually destroyed, it hits just how easily he could have killed her and how much he truly had to resist. Of course, Bella being Bella....it doesn't matter. The second thing is during the Jacob-Edward exchange after Bella's pregnancy is revealed. Jacob and Edward have a discussion about sharing Bella because Edward is convinced that if he can offer her another child she will let the abortion happen. He says "She can have puppies." And Jacob compares her to a car he gets to ride around in on the weekend and return to its owner on Monday. When I read this in the book, I lost it. And from the minute I heard these books were going to be made into movies, I desperately wanted this scene in the film....as Meyer originally wrote it. Because it honestly shows how truly toxic both Edward and Jacob would be for Bella. But instead we got that "she'll listen to you" scene that paints Edward as scared and desperate and the bigger man because he is asking his wife's ex to help save her life.....ya know, nevermind what his wife wants. Personally, I do not agree with Bella's decision to keep a pregnancy going that will literally kill her. But that is her choice and her right to make it. I'll say nothing else on that matter. But the idea of Edward forcing his wife into an abortion despite her choice......that infuriated me. And then to beg Jacob to join his team? And Bella not talking to her husband about how she feels and why she is doing this? Ugh!! I'm shutting up now.

  • i saw this in theatres, my friend dragged me to it, and she was mad at me the entire time because i kept laughing at parts that weren’t jokes. i hadn’t seen any of the other movies so i was surrounded by girls sobbing at the sad parts, meanwhile i had no idea what was going on or who the characters were.

  • 😂😂 Magical foreigner, I was about to drop a comment on that...it's so great to see that they randomly bumped into a native woman in Brazil that happens to be magical/mystical and knows all this shit.... that also happens to me everytime I go to the groceries

  • As a brazilian, I have to say: Robert Pattinson's portuguese actually surprised me! It was not bad at all!
